Great review. I agree with everything you said. They're very special phones. I did manage to fit some spiral dots tips on mine. Sounds terrific. You should try to put some on yours. It wasn't really that hard getting them on.

"Multiple drivers do not automatically equal good sound though, so I had to see for myself" AMEN.

Nice one, pal. You just made my Shockwave 3 vs. DQSM2 vs. QT5 question a whole lot easier.

How do I contact the man for the Head-fi discount? Nice review.

"There was a trade off in sound, as the stock cable seemed to have a tiny bit more detail and treble, but running balanced opened up a blacker background."
I love the enthusiasm, but this comment seems contradictory. Generally blackening the background allows detail and treble to emerge, so I find this statement very confusing.

Think more about how grounding, gain, or dirty power would show a bit of hiss where running balanced would help cancel that out. At 8ohm, high powered equipment without gain adjustment could benefit from that. The comment focused on that aspect of the sound.
The Fidue cable has less cores compared to stock, so a good 8 core balanced cable could easily match or surpass the stock one. I felt the Fidue cable tamed the treble a bit, so it didn't have quite as crisp and clear of a sound to me.
Once I sit down and learn this Vibro unit I purchased, I can measure it.

Great review man. TY.

Excellent review, made me tempted to pick these up...if I had the money that is. The 6 month warranty is pretty weak though, but I guess at that price it is the tradeoff, which isnt terrible. Very nice

"Several other members have mentioned that these best the Dunu 2000J, FLC8s, and quite a few other iems in the price range. I won’t comment further as I don’t have those to test, with this being my first ~$300 iem purchase. One member believes these best anything under $600, and if I heard some more higher priced iems, I’m sure I’d be in agreement with him."
Oh man. This is NOT what I wanted to read just days after having received my FLC8S. Let's call this one my next conquest, shall we?
By the way, I'm thrilled to finally find someone reviewing IEMs with actual metal bands. Which Katatonia album(s) did you rock through these? I think The Fall of Hearts is by far their best produced disc, and one of the best in their catalogue. It sounds like ear sex through my FLC8S.

@Djinnenjous I used the new album "The Fall of Hearts" in the review, and yes it sounds fantastic like the majority of their albums.
Metal is a good litmus test to how audio equipment performs. If it can reproduce every strum, dynamic, echo, growl, and instrument from all that is going on, it is a sign of quality gear. I call it "The Slayer Test".
