Whizzer BS1

Previously known as Wretched Stare
Whizzer BS1
Pros: A pleasant smooth and warm V-shaped, looks great, build is good
Cons: Lacks some details and cable is fixed
20220502_123636.jpg

The box and accessories are better than average for the BS1, a pouch, clip and tips are included. the cable is fixed and made of a nylon material. The units themselves are constructed well and were comfortable to use.

Sound impression: A mature V-shaped with warmth and safely tuned at both ends

Bass: is punchy with a slight lack of speed and a fast decay, it lends its warmth to the Mids due to bleed and yet still sounds pleasant and not overbearing. This is definitely not for Bass-head but still Bass is good for a relaxing listen.

Mids: Are well defined almost centered but a little more forward, mids themselves are rich and have a natural tone to them. I must admit this is the BS1 strong point.

Treble: Highs are just north of polite there is some sparkle and details, but they tend to roll of quickly. Treble heads it a no here.

Soundstage: Here is another strength of the BS1 its open wide open. There is great imaging and layering here with accuracy, the BS1 sound good when gaming too.

Conclusion: This is a fun / natural sounding non offensive earphone, with prominent Bass, good Mids, polite treble and fantastic soundstage. it sounds open and fun with reasonable details.

Whizzer BS1 Review!

Video review here!:
https://youtu.be/ILFdlQJ6NX0
=============================================================================================================

Good day! After a week of casual and critical listening, here’s my written review for the Whizzer BS1. One of the best IEMs in my book so far!

Disclaimer:
  • Whizzer sent this unit to me in an exchange for an honest, unbiased review. Rest assured that this review will try its best to devoid from any bias/es.
  • The following remarks and observations shall be made and owned only by me.
  • No monetary compensation is/was involved before, during, and after the period of creation of this review.
  • Your mileage may (and always, will) vary.

Burn-in time: 5-10 hours per day, 5 days.

Source/s used:

  • Hidizs AP80
  • Not-By-VE Avani Realtek Dongle
  • BaseUs USB DAC
  • Venture Electronics MEGATRON USB DAC
  • Zishan U1 USB DAC (AKM Variant)

IEM and configuration: Stock medium wide-bore eartips, stock cable, any form of EQ or MSEB off, 40-60% volume, both high and low gain.

=========================================================================================================
Sound signature:

  • Balanced with a slight hint of warmth to the mids. Controlled, meaty lows, warm, smooth mids, natural treble. Wide soundstage and excellent layering for its price.
Lows:
  • Lows are almost linear with a very small amount of elevation. Midbass and subbass levels have perceivably equal levels most of the time. Decay is average and never lacked even when listened with EDM or bass heavy tracks during my tests. As a result, the Whizzer BS1’s lows are controlled, clean, but never sounded lacking at all. It isn’t a basshead set by all means, but bass is up to par, if not better when compared to the iKKO Opal OH2 in terms of bass quality, such as its texture and heft.

Mids:
  • The mids on the BS1 are “properly placed” with hints of being forward at times where the presentation of the mids are forward. Lower mids are warm, smooth, but never got drowned or sounded recessed at all. Male voices, especially those thick sounding voices sounded “alive with emotion”, if that makes sense. Upper mids are ever-so-slightly elevated with a good amount of clarity, air, and sparkle. This is where the Whizzer BS1 sets itself apart when compared to most IEMs under 30 USD: it doesn’t exhibit any harshness, sibilance, or any peak at all while it does not sound lacking in any way. I’d say that the mids on this IEM are one of those mids that are “well-tuned” and are apparently rare in this price point. The Whizzer BS1 presented a good amount of mids presentation while avoiding any presence of recession or harshness at the same time. It’s quite a treat, I must say!

Highs:
  • The highs on the Whizzer BS1 are naturally extended with a good amount of presence of sparkle. Cymbal crashes sounds “correct” to me, however, it may sound lacking, or dark, for those people who prefer bright sounding gears as this treble isn’t too elevated but at the same time it isn’t rolled off either. Detail retrieval is average for its price as I can hear microdetails here fairly easily.

Soundstage, Imaging, and separation:
  • The soundstage of this BS1 is wide with a good amount of immersiveness to it. It is a bit wider than deep with a very good amount of height as well. As a result, the layering here also is excellent for its asking price. Separation is very good and can handle very busy tracks decently. Imaging is excellent and precise, as this has a very good presentation of realism on the vocal and instrument positioning.
=========================================================================================================
Comparisons!

Vs the Astrotec Vesna:

  • The Astrotec Vesna is a bit harder to be driven properly when compared to the Whizzer BS1 due to its LCP Diaphragm driver material. When both are properly driven, the Astrotec Vesna will exhibit some elevation on its upper frequencies, making it sound brighter at some tracks while the BS1 does not. The Vesna’s mids are also a bit forward when compared while the BS1 aims for a more natural, smoother, warmer approach. The bass on the BS1 are also meatier but both exhibit a good amount of decay and control. Soundstage, layering, and imaging are better on the BS1 as the Vesna suffers a bit of congestion when listened to with very busy tracks.

Pros:

  • Natural, balanced with a hint of warm sound signature.
  • All-rounder, smooth sound.
  • Controlled, non-lacking lows.
  • Warm mids (subjective)
  • Non-harsh upper frequencies.
  • Excellent soundstage, imaging, and layering for its asking price.
  • Very good set of accessories.
  • Eartips that are actually decent and do not need to be replaced unless wanted.
  • Sturdy build quality.
  • Form factor that will fit most ears easily.

Cons:
  • Non-removable cable may be a problem for some people.
  • Microphonics are expected and experienced, but will be lessened when used with the shirt clip included.
  • Both ends of the spectrum are far from sounding rolled off, but may sound “lacking” for those people who like a bass heavy or treble-oriented sound. (subjective)

Verdict
The Whizzer BS1 is one of those underrated IEMs based on what I perceive mostly in the community as of today, as I have not seen many reviews and/or impressions regarding this IEM. Its all-rounder, balanced, natural, fatigue-free sound makes it for me to easily recommend this to almost everyone, as long as they are completely fine with non-removable sleeved cables. Not to mention its excellent technicalities, particularly on the soundstage, imaging, and layering for its retail price as it really excels on movies or live performances. Plus, its included accessories would be more than enough for most people because it technically has all the things you need to use it right away. Definitely give it a try if you can, it is really well-tuned!

===========================================
Pairing recommendation/s:

  • Source: A dongle will do as this IEM sounds better with some extra power from a dongle (ex. not-by-VE Avani/Abigail or JCally JM6).
  • As for the eartips, you do not need to change anything because its stock eartips are already decent and bring out the best sound of this IEM. However, you are free to use any ear tips of your choice.

TONALITY: 8/10
TECHNICALITIES: 7.5/10
CONSTRUCTION:8/10
SOUND VALUE: 8.5/10

Whizzer is a well established earphones company, they have release interesting hybrid IEM as well as a great single dynamic IEM, the HE01, which have a solid fan base even nowadays. Today, I will review their entry level single dynamic earphones, the BS1, which promise to offer excellent sound value with it’s 13.6mm composite dynamic driver. Let’s see in this review if this assumption reflect the truth.

CONSTRUCTION

image-35.png
image-36.png

Firstly, the BS1 is a cabled IEM, so for those only buying IEM with detachable cable, it will be a drawback. This cable is made of nylon material that can keep it’s bent too, which is anotther drawback but it isn’t as much prompt to microphonic as other type of cable ,which is a plus.

image-37.png

The shell is a true open back and it’s made of half-metal half-plastic, it look good and the fit is easy, but as expected with open back, sound leakage is noticable. In term of accessories, we have the strict minimum. But for the price their nothing to complaint since construction doesn’t feel cheap or overly fragile.

SOUND IMPRESSIONS

(source: Ibasso DX90 and Xduoo Link2 Bal)

image-38.png

TONALITY is a balanced slight V to mid centric, with warm bass slam, hint bright mids and an analogish overall presentation. What is analogish? Let say a lush thick cohesive timbral and tonal balance that feel organic as a whole.

TECHNICALITIES are good for the price, but average in sub-100$ price range. Resolution is a bit dark, attack lack control and snap and separation is blurry.

SOUNDSTAGE is the star of the show here, thanks to open back design, it feel very tall and wide, with an appealing holographic feeling to it but a lack of deepness.

IMAGING is very average, this is due to blurry micro definition and lack of clean space between instrument, but the sound layers are well extract and wide in presence.

BASS is the most boosted part of spectrum, it have a weighty warm slam to it, not a tight punch, it’s rather slow and will bleed on mids in a romantic way. Definition and separation lack clarity and accuracy, and their an airy resonance to bass line that tend to affect tone of low range instrument. Extension is roll off just a little, and it lack lean natural flexibility. To me, all the issue that happen with BS1 tonality is due to the sloppy bass impact and warm boumyness.

MIDS are quite addictive, lush with a natural timbre to it, and open in presence which make us think the BS1 is mid centric sometime. Both male and female vocal sound full and are free of upper mids sibilance, yet they have beautifull breathyness to female vocal that add density. This isn’t thin sounding mids, but resolution and separation is average as soon as more than one instrument go on.

Treble is smooth, delicate without feeling too dark or lacking in bite. Violin sound great and the attack is felt, with a realist tone but short decay. Electric guitar too sound OK, though not very textured they don’t sound thin or wonky. Attack is where the problem happen, it lack snap and sparkle, brilliance is there but minimal. Some percussions can get lost in the mix too, but clavichord sound decent. Drumstick is more fowards than other percussions too, so their a slight spike somewhere. Still, it isn’t harsh treble nor overly splashy, just not very refined.

COMPARISONS

image-39.png

VS Tanchjim TANYA

Tanya is warmer and darker, timbre is more natural and smoother, bass is warm but better rounded, less sloppy, with a tighter mid bass punch impact. When it come to technicalities, Tanya show it’s limit, imaging is more mixed up, soundstage is less open and airy, treble is more rolled off. Overall, Tanya feel more V shape making the BS1 sound W shape and even a bit bright. Resolution is superior with BS1. Timbre isn’t as thick, but transparency is better.
To be honnest, their no clear winner here, it will be tonal preference even if BS1 have upper hands when it come to technicalities.

VS FIIO JD3

What hit first is how less bassy are the JD3, but they have more extended bass response since mid bass is leaner. Brighter, more W shape and analytical too. Timbre is notably more thin and artificial but this keep resolution clearer cleaner too. We have more micro details and more air, but overall musicality isn’t there compared to lusher less cold-clinical BS1. Treble have more sparkle decay with the JD3 too.
Here it’s the JD3 that have upper hands for technicalities, but it would surprise me anybody find it’s tonality more pleasant than BS1.

CONCLUSION

The Whizzer BS1 offer a very immersive musicality with a big airy soundstage, it have this unique ”analog holographic” sound presentation that make it very addictive. While it’s no master of technicalities, it’s still above average in it’s price range due to nicely layered spatiality and overall good macro-resolution. It’s hard to not suggest the BS1 for it’s price, since it offer a sound experience no other IEM offer in this price range and even above, in the sens you feel like being in a big room fullfill with big speakers delivering a bigger than life musicality in a small IEM shell. Why not spoiling yourself with such a pleasant immersivity?

I don't want to double up on packaging and physical features and focus on sound.
Find the rest of the story here: https://www.audioreviews.org/whizzer-bs1-review/

Equipment used: Sony NW-A55, iPhone SE (1st gen.); MacBook Air + AudioQuest DragonFly Cobalt; SpinFit CP145; Azla SednaEarfit Light (long stemmed)…stock tips were too small for me.

It takes some TLC and time to unleash Whizzer BS1’s sonic qualities. And if done right, they sound amazing considering their price: warm and lush with great timbre and resolution. But it takes a warm source and the right eartips, in my case the DragonFly Cobalt and the SpinFit CP145. The “colder” Sony NW-A55 or iPhone SE in combination with the long-stemmed Azla SednaEarfit Light sounded harsh and unpleasant.

The eartips alone make a huge difference: the Azlas have better low-end rumble but also bring out that pinna gain more, which is fatiguing to my ears after a while. The SpinFits narrow the stage somewhat and clip the sub-bass slightly, but also add some smoothness to the mids.

For this earphone, you can for once, forget about the graph as it does not reflect the above characteristics and differences. Whilst the graph bears a strong resemblance to the Moondrop SSR’s, the latter is way more aggressive sounding.

The problem is that my characterization of the BS1 is in most aspects only valid for this particular setup, so please read more reviews to get the complete picture.

Sourced by MacBook Air + DragonFly Cobalt with SpinFit CP145 eartips, and a very deep insertion depth (!!!), I recorded an excellent spatial cues and a wide and tall stage with reasonable depth. The sound is slightly on the warm side, at a pleasant “temperature”.

Vocals are intimate and somewhat in the foreground without being piercing (as said, this was a different story with my iPhone SE). Note weight and note definition are both surprisingly good and enjoyable. Voices sound natural and relaxed. The upper midrange is dialed back which contributes to the more relaxed vocals and a lack of shoutiness.

This lower midrange is underlain by a clean, well layered, warm bass that can be adjusted with eartips. The Azlas produced a bit more sub-bass rumble whereas the SpinFit CP145 a more focused mid bass with still enough sub-bass extension. Speed is typical of a dynamic driver. Slam is well-dosed but not overbearing. I find the low end very composed and out of the way of the midrange – as it should be.

Treble is a bit subdued. High notes are migrating in the background but the good treble resolution makes up for it. There is no grain up there, all relaxed. What’s strange is that I don’t register that early drop-off shown in the graph. Sure, there is no overbearing 4 kHz energy but high piano notes sound well extended and sparkly.

Apart from the staging, resolution is astonshingly good across the frequency spectrum and so are layering and separation. I find my way across the stage quite well in the BS1. Transient as nimble and timbre is natural.

Disclaimer
*sent to me by Whizzer in exchange for this review. In no way my thoughts are influenced by Whizzer.
I have not seen many people talk about BS1 or perhaps Whizzer doesn't do much promotion and let its product walk the talk instead.
To give you an overview, BS1 is an IEM with an open backed design as claimed by Whizzer to give a better/bigger soundstage(Yes, it does that indeed!!)

Packaging
It comes in a fairly standard box set with a carrying pouch, two types of eartips, one is the Easy Tips(SS20) and a standard eartips, Whizzer is also kind enough to send me another type of eartips for me to try it out, the ET100.

Sound
It is a very relaxed sounding IEM in my opinion. The mids to me are the highlight of this IEM, you can listen to this for hours without feeling fatigue and both the low and highs are well tuned. Let's get into that. Slight warm to me.

Bass
• Bass quantity is just right to my ears
• It has got good texture and controlled bass
• You can feel the sub bass rumble but it is definitely no where near bass head level of course. Very evident in tracks like Why So Serious, that doesn't mean it is lacking, more like it has got enough quantity and quality for you to enjoy the track
• Good slams, fast and tight

Mids
• Vocal is quite forward, not really an issue as its more of a preference
• Both male and female has got good texture and doesn't sound dry
• Sinne Eng's We've Just Begun, plenty of details from the mids and it is so enjoyable using BS1 to listen to this track
• Lower to upper mids transitioning are smooth and doesn't have any kind of weird peak that i can notice

Treble
• The treble on the BS1 is smooth and it has a good amount of air and sparkles, in a way where its not fatiguing to listen to
• Detail retrieval is good, there's a faint sound of a certain instrument that i'm not sure what is it called, BS1 is able to pick it up, on some other IEM where detail retrieval capability is poor, that sound either is not there or muffled
• Not harsh and not sibilant at all

Soundstage/Imaging
As an open backed IEM, it is no surprise that the soundstage is ought to be good. It has good depth and width to my ears.
It is also very 3D sounding to me, in We've just Begun, i feel like i am in the middle of the stage and the vocalist is in front of me and the instruments are playing all around me, like i'm engulfed within it. Its just amazing.
For the price it is asking for, imaging is also above average, instruments can be pinpointed easily. Instruments separation is good and it can be clearly identified and doesn't attempt to over power each other. I normally listen to Slipknot's Duality to test the imaging, if it is bad it will sound muffled especially when the drums are hitting fast and also the guitar is strumming hard. Overall it is very impressive for the price.

Driveability
• It can be powered by pretty much anything, even from your smartphone's 3.5mm jack
• It does benefit from a better source of course
• Does not benefit from amping

Final Thoughts
This is my first time hearing an open backed IEM and BS1 does not disappoint. It is versatile enough to handle any tracks that i threw to it, even EDM(although i generally don't listen to EDM, but i just played a few for the sake of testing). It is very musical and listening to it is very very enjoyable, although it is not an IEM that is very resolving, it is not lacking in detail retrieval either, it is good enough for the price it is asking for. One thing that do annoy me is the cable, it has got the same material as Aria’s and it is very easy to get tangled. This is one of the cons to me. Other than that, all good.

Ain't trying to shill this but i truly think that this is worth your money and time for music lovers. Whizzer is not on a rapid fire mode releasing IEM after IEMs, they certainly take their time to develop something good such as BS1.
I'm giving this a 4/5 based on my setup and listening experience.

*Do take into consideration where you experience might vary due to the setup, however, shouldn't be much of an issue since it sounded good off an Apple Dongle as well :)

Cheers and thanks for your time!

Till next time!

WHIZZER BS1 – CALM AND COMPOSED
Pros: Relaxed Sound Profile (L Shaped)
Smoother Midrange
Mid Bass Fullness
Microphone
Design and Price
Cons: Rolled Off Treble
Staging and Technicalities
Cable
INTRODUCTION:

Whizzer, the brand based out of China is a well known brand among the audiophiles. They have a wide range of IEM’s and Truly Wireless Earbuds in their lineup and have a good response from the consumers. The HE01, HE03 are their budget IEMs which got an applauding response and the BS1 is their latest open back offering in this budget segment. It's designed by the J.IDEA + and in this review let's see how this performs and is the sound as striking as its design.

Ea-l7wDYBRVDbCcja2kGSyQ3tRUl_jso1lX0f7VAYhmLXsTrhDG5iMWKk_3vBbXm1H4tPRWu5cD3zAzuZatU22x2O_wEz0FOZ1jCezWRXBQBo3KtGeSkkWE5bKio4Q

SPECIFICATIONS:

Design by J.IDEA + Studio

Open back design

Multi-damping balance system

13.6mm composite diaphragm driver

Impedance: 18Ohm

Sensitivity: 109dB

DISCLAIMER:

This unit has been provided to me by HiFiGo in exchange for my honest opinion. This review is completely based on my observations with this product after using it for quite a period of time and it's based on my pairings with it hence it might differ from person to person.

If you are interested in purchasing this unit then please feel free to go along with HiFiGo: https://hifigo.com/

DESIGN AND FIT:

The design of the BS1 is nicely done with full construction crafted out of metal. The faceplate is of course the open backed design with copper coloured open back plate giving nice touch to the overall appearance. The nozzle is angled and sits good in the ears. In the inner aspect of the earpiece there are bigger vents and underneath them are some dampeners.

The cable is fixed and they are cloth braided hence in terms of longevity it is assured. The issue is that they cause a lot of microphonic noises thus it's not the apt earphone to use while walking or working around. The cable has a microphone and volume keys for easy accessing and comes with a 3.5mm termination end. The cable does get twisted out frequently but tangling is not an issue with this. The stock ear tips are average at best and do provide a good fit.

SOUND:

The sound profile of the BS1 is more balanced to a L shaped tuning tuning with more concentration on the midrange and mid bass. This earphone does possess a large 13.6mm composite diaphragm dynamic driver to deliver a nice and fuller sound. The most expected benefitted outcome of a L shaped tuning is that it has a fatigue free relaxing listening session and that's what the BS1 brings to the table. Let’s check out how calm and composed this BS1 is in this breakup section of the sound.

BASS:

The bass in the BS1 is more focussed towards the mid bass region where it gives you that satisfying fuller and full bodied sound. Being an open back headphone i thought that it would have a leaner bass but on the contrary the low has been tuned pretty well here.

The sub bass presence can be felt but it's not the dominant factor here. The rumble is quite subtle and only it's presented when the track calls for it. The sub bass extension is quite average but not the worst considering its an open back headphone.

The mid bass richness gives that nice lush and musical sound experience. The nice full bodied bass gives that laidback sound which never fatigues you even in the longer listening sessions. The rich mid bass also doesn’t affect the mid range thus the bloatedness is not seen that much which is quite a surprise.

The control and the texture is good enough in the BS1 giving nice clarity but since the stage is being small which is quite interesting for an open backed headphone the separation struggles when the complex tracks are replayed. The bass speed is nominal.

Overall pretty impressed with the bass response and if this had a wider staging the separation in the low end could have been better.

  1. Somebody to Love - Kyrill & Redford
  2. Desire - Mollono.Bass
MID RANGE:

The midrange is the star show here where the presentation is nicely done giving calm and composed sound. The natural tonality and timbre of this BS1 is another strings aspect to be noted. The vocals are placed slightly laidback giving a nice relaxed sound. Both the male and female vocals sounds clean and smoother without any harshness. The upper midrange is nicely smoothed out thus the harshness or sibilance is noted.

The piano notes and the kick drums do sound really nice having a natural tone with a slight bit of warmth. However they don’t have that sharpness or bite in every note they replay hence the energetic factor is missing. This will of course be a god sent gift for the people looking for a perfect relaxed sounding earphone. The notes however don’t sound thinner rather they sound nice and full.

The separation is another veiled out factor here since the staging is not that great. Being an open backed earphone i thought of a wider staging but its not the case here where the staging is average at best. In complex tracks the instruments do sound cluttered out without any space and feel suffocated.

Overall the mid range is more on a relaxed side giving smooth and composed sound with musical tonality thus pleasing the listeners. A great set for a relaxed listening or bedtime session.

  1. Human - The Killers
  2. The Blowers Daughter - Damien Rice
TREBLE:

The treble is gently rolled off. The detail retrieval, shimmer or the brilliance can't be experienced here. They have tuned it in a way for relaxed listening hence you can't find the contrary energy here. The sparkle is quite subtle and those cymbal crashes decay quicker.

The cymbal crashes sound quite calmer and subtle where the decay is pretty short hence the splashy nature of the cymbals can't be noticed here. The electric guitar strings do sound the same as that of the cymbals. The percussion instruments in general don’t have that bite or attack thus lacks the energy in the top end making this a perfect IEM for bedtime and relaxing sessions.

They don’t contain much air thus the separation and grand staging can't be experienced here. Overall the treble is very modest and calm but at the same time they also provide that smooth and even treble.

Whatever the tracks you throw in they don’t represent any sort of sibilance which is a pretty good thing and most importantly even when the tracks that are poorly mastered and old records are replayed via this they are represented in a smoother way hence its forgiving to poorly mastered tracks.

I would expect an extra bit of brightness in the top end which would have made this IEM a better one. That added brightness would have brought some life and energy to this IEM. There is a hint of darker background to this BS1.

  1. Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
  2. Sultans Of Swings - Dire Straits
  3. Michael Fitzhenry - Andwella
_V0JPXB9jFz1Tkw0QvzkpzzwR1_0BsHU0fpAlgi0fqdidBNc8-rSfRIRe91OT-n0ELuEo6-8JME6_J8S-RJX4DhbDkyQtnX5xs_AHi_gZnAJlO_OQhUHZG-c6Bo78g

TECHNICALITIES:

STAGING: The staging is the disappointing factor in this BS1 being an open backed one. The width is sub par average giving a decent separation in the tracks. The height is average too. The track separation in the complex one’s struggles to be portrayed out precisely.

IMAGING: The imaging also takes a step back in the presentation where the clustered out instruments feel difficult to be pointed out. Everything appears to be coming out of a single centered channel rather than a nice sweep from the left to the right. The headroom and the staging feels insufficient.

Detail retrieval and the track separation are not the best part here and not the worst too. For the price there is nothing to complain but still considering the competition out there this feels lost in this segment. Of Course the tuning is done differently here to concentrate more on the calmer side rather than the technical side.

VERDICT:

BS1, the latest budget offering from the house of WHIZZER also appears to be an open backed earphone with a fixed cable and also comes with a mic! The brand is known for its well tuned IEM’s especially in the budget range like the HE01,HE03. The BS1 being a completely different animal possessing different architecture does this really stack up against the competition? YES!

The BS1 is made for the people who are looking for a relaxed and non fatiguing sound. The profile is balanced, emphasis on the mid bass and the mid range, treble is rolled off with minimum focus towards the detail retrieval. The staging being a disappointing factor in this open back architecture they do compensate for the natural tonality, timbre and the calmer sound with fatigue free listening.

The earphone itself is built well with a nice matt metal finish. The design looks attractive and very comfortable to wear. The added mic functionality does make this an everyday pair to be used but the isolation is average though.

Overall the BS1 does tick all the boxes of how a relaxed tuning should be. With a striking design, cheaper price tag and CALM AND COMPOSED sound this should be picked up by the people out there for listening to their podcasts and bedtime soothing tracks!

New Head-Fier
Pros: Musical and lush tuning.
Fatigue free listening.
Forgiving of bad recordings.
Cons: Form factor isn't comfortable for small ears.
Disclaimer : The unit was provided by Hifigo as a part of a review tour but all thoughts and opinions are my own. You can purchase it here.

Build and Fit
An open backed earphone! I do not know the effect that this design choice has, what I do know is that the fit is not comfortable for my ears. The disk like portion of the chassis (shaped according to the DD inside) juts out and hits my concha. To top it off if you are using small tips, you will have to push them in, which will make matters worse. If you have big ears, it is a much fairer experience. It has a "sleeper" design that doesn't draw any attention. It looks like any other earphone out there.

Amp Needs
8 ohms, 109dB/mW. It runs off anything.

Sound Quality
MMMMMMMMMids. And then some more mids. The mids are forward and surprisingly full bodied due to the punchy midbass which is plain "thiccc". It is however slightly shouty which occasionally irks you. Due to the open backed nature (I think), there isn't much extension below the midbass region. But honestly the fat midbass (which is not bloated by the way!) will make you forget the lack of bass extension. There is not much treble extension to speak off and the treble is gently rolled off pretty quick. It just has enough treble to not bother you.
A side effect of the rolled off treble is that it sets a "veil" over the music, but just slight, a very thin veil. This is a godsend for poor recordings as it just glosses over all imperfections and makes them so much more palatable. This is a big deal for me and a quality that is near and dear to me. With great resolution, comes great fatigue. There is just no fatigue to speak of. It makes even the thinnest and shoutiest old recording something you can tap your toes to!
The headstage isn't as wide as I was hoping it to be despite being an open back which was a bummer. Due to the intimate headstage, instrument separation isn't as good as I was hoping it to be. But honestly I don't give 2 damns about headstage and imaging from an earphone that makes me whole heartedly enjoy the music (all kinds of music!).

Conclusion
If you want an earphone to just chill out with and have a great time with, the BS1 is really good. Fun, fun, fatigue free fun!
