Tansio Mirai TSMR-3 pro
All BA designs are nothing new but that saying it comes down to the tuning really matters. Tansio Mirai has a bunch of pure BA designs that have some of the best highly regarded quality designs in terms of both build and sound. I was introduced to their TSMR line of in ears recently as I did a review of their intro level 2BA in ears the TSMR-2 you can read about here.
The TSRM-3 pro was provided by Tansio Mirai for the purpose of a review. These are my thoughts based on listening to my various sources and gears. The driver count of the 3 pro is like the number would indicate increases from the 2 model to the 3. So adding a 3rd BA in the mix ideally would let the designer separate the 3 regions of sound and that is what Tansio Mirai has done with the 3 BA set of the 3 pros. Taking full advantage of the extra BA in the mix. So while having extra drivers does not mean extra sound. There are a few advantages of this design which I will get into in the read.
I have to admit I have never heard of Tansio Mirai or was really curious about their designs till I got to review the TSMR-2. Those in ears are very competent and represent what a well seasoned designer can pull off with 2 BAs in a housing. With their 3 pro design each part of the sonic reproduction has better separated paths which in return will throw out some better technicalities. What is different from the 2 BAs and the 3 in the pros? Better imaging, precision, stage, layering, and dynamism. Sure the TSMR-2 had that but now it is a level better.
For the Build we get an all resin semi custom in ear design which seems to be more of the norm nowadays and for good reason. This design lets the manufacturer fit as many drivers as necessary while minimizing the profile that will fit comfortably inside your ears. The housing design is mostly clear resin for the body and when ordering the TSMR-3 pros, you can choose from various plates that represent the color of the outside shell design. Build seems to be always impeccable with Tansio Mirai in ears.
It will be difficult to point out any type of flaws in the shells itself. You can clearly see the Knowles drivers being used to create the head set. The package includes 3 sets silicone tips a double flange, a smaller pouch, an oversized zip up case, a cleaning tool and another for flipping the switches. Included is your standard pack in cable with a stiff noodle like ear guides. I suppose if you get more fancy with the included accessories that would only up the price tag on these so take that for what it is. Could they improve the packaging? Yes I think so, especially the cable but for what is included the accessories set is usable.
Now onto the sound.
The TSMR-3 pros has a balanced bold sound signature and much like how the TSMR-2 model exhibits staging, so does the 3 Pros. The sonics have a tall signature for in ears. The width and tallness of the sound gives out more of a sideways rectangular stage. No one wants to read that their in ear has a boxy sound and these are not going to sound like that, but has more to do with the way the sound projects that has the sonics sounding tall and dimensional.
Sonics has some brashness and a layering that is uncommon for even multi BAs due to this projection. While this may read like a negative, it is actually the opposite. The height to the sonic qualities makes the TSMR-3 pros sound very engaging especially for vocal and instrumental performances. The sonics has more of a surround effect due to the sound projection on the 3 Pros. Fans of vocal music will absolutely love how your favorite artist vocals project with Tansio Mirai earphones. Once you hear vocal music on these, other in ears seem a bit lacking. That intimacy of the projected sound seems to be a purposeful sound design on the TSMR earphones.
BAs have always been good at treble duties and it shows up on the 3pros. Specifically the Knowles ED29689.Treble on the 3-pros has a good natural clarity with density to it that is not more emphasized over the mids or the bass. The treble end has good extension and has very good detail with a proper amount of decay in the region. Focussed toward the lower to mid treble frequencies which gives the bulk of the treble detail with excellent resolution and ample shimmer and sparkle.
I don’t perceive a great uptick in the treble emphasis even with the treble enhanced switch on.Only a slight perhaps a few dbs of emphasis so not all that different from the switches off. The clean treble end is done with zero fatigue showing good depth, slightly airy with zero grain in the region. The treble is tuned for natural detail and is highly refined at the given cost. I can’t think of many in ears that I have heard that does treble better than the 3 pros for the price actually. It is the goldilocks of treble. Not too much and not too little. Just right.
The bold sound on the 3-pro model means that the mids have authority fullness and range. The mid bands have a good even emphasis from lower to a slightly enhanced upper mid bands. which results in a clean crisp accurate tone to the sonics. Technicalities are optimal for the range which almost has a more mid focused sound due to the forward projection, with that encompassing height to the sonics mentioned earlier. Male and female vocals sound superb on this set as a result. Absolutely no recession or a laid back mid range to be heard, I am certain vocal and instrument enthusiasts will love this tuning. It looks like one of the two 22955 BAs was used for the mid range and with very good results. Timbre of instruments has that crip detailed ranginess that will surprise folks that have heard much higher end sets in comparison.
It is easy to pick off layers in the mid range. That extraordinary height, good depth and wide enough stage does wonders for vocal jazz and acoustic music. Sound separation is superb due to the 3 crossovers utilizing 12 frequency division components per side. Precision is easy and sound comes with a flow that seems like there are more than just 3 BAs in each ear. The solid piece of resin means good passive isolation so you're gonna get that detail even outdoors walking around. In fact I find out of all my BA sets it is the TSMR-3pros I prefer to use outdoors due to the isolation.
The bass is BA bass but what is interesting with the 3 pros is that you now have the ability to flick a switch to turn on a bit more if you wish. While mostly mid bass and only about 3 dbs it is more noticeable when the bass switch turned on with the 3 pros than the TSMR-2. Bass stays away from the mid range and has good agility and an enthusiastic punch with the switch turned on. Sure the bass is not as good as a well implemented dynamic. Here is where I want to suggest for the Next TSMR line. How about a good hybrid?. With how great Tansio Mirai tunes. A well implemented dynamic and I can’t imagine a better potential for a hybrid in ear. Just a thought.
Bass is mostly mid bass with a roll off in the sub region. Sub bass like most BAs represents but it is the type of sub bass that you can hear and not really feel if you know what I mean. So while the bass end is fast, agile and precise like the rest of the sound signature. You can’t expect high end bass on an all BA set that cost $220. But as an admitted recovering bass junkie, the bass end is surprisingly good on these. EDM, especially vocal trance, sounds amazing. There is enough bass grunt to sound complete and while sub bass does not have the rumble of a well tuned dynamic. Hip Hop genre don’t suck. Of course I have the bass switch on at all times. This adds a bit of musicality to that full bodied sound signature.
Conclusion: TSMR-3pros are very good, in fact so much so when I was writing this review I didn’t realize just how much I admire that tall sound signature. I can only wish the 22955 while ample was replaced by a carbon based dynamic for that low end rumble. One can wish, right? For what it has to offer. Excellent forward imagery, a layered precise detailed mid range, speedy bass with good foot tapping mid bass punch, treble shimer with excellent density and clarity. All included within a solid block of resin that isolates nicely when out and about. It offers much more than what you would expect out of a 3BA set, for that I will give the TSMR-3 pros a hearty recommendation. For the bucks there isn’t much in the way of lacking anything on the sonic performance of the TSMR-3 pros and you will most definitely get your money's worth.
These are called. Pros cus that is what your gonna hear. As always thanks for reading and happy listening.
