well-written. would love to hear more direct comparisons against other headphones & looking forward to hearing about the liquid carbon + ether pairing.
Thousands of pardons... you did list your system items... and good ones at that. My latest cornea transplant is still healing, and I guess I blurred over those last two paragraphs.
Now, I wonder if something like the Rag or this LD tube amp would even produce a little more ummph out of those new cans? It would be interesting. Bring 'em over... let's see.
Matt stopped by with the Ether the other day and it was indeed a really good sounding headphones that is not too difficult to drive. Most importantly it is well priced compared to some newer TOTL flagship. A great job as well Matt!
I agree the Ether is a very musically enjoyable headphone that still manages to be extremely neutral. It's one of only two headphones that's been able to immiedetly cath my attention.
I've had two 800's and the exhaustion was an inevitable factor in owning that phone. You could color the response with a sloth-like tube affair, but that would defeat the purpose of the phone. The mid-hall effect in the important middle of the 800 was unique in headphones, and although the image was a result of driver angle and cup shape, it was very addictive for full orchestra. The Alpha never hurt, I'm glad the apple didn't fall far from the tree in the new Ether.
