Pros: big mid-bass
Cons: slow (cannot handle more than one sound at a time), no mids, no highs,
they have these at my work, both earpieces have popped out of the frame (not completely, they are still hanging on by one hinge) and the foam on the top is starting to separate from the frames. The bass is big but does not extend at all and when there is any bass, the response is so slow that the mids and highs are barely rendered. there are occasions when the highs sound good, but they are rare. these phones are not detailed at presentation by anyones estimates.

As an electrical engineering student, I feel very sorry for the electrical engineers who had to design these, because I am certain that their input was thrown out completely, either that, or they are not very ethical fellows (monster is known for being unethical in pricing and design, especially on their hdmi cords).

The frequency response on these is not good (to say the least), also it handles fast changes in frequency poorly. This is fine for music with a slow beat and little emphasis on detail, but it falters when playing bebop or fast classical music, or rock.

the koss portapros seem more detailed while exhibiting less bass. they have much better mids and the highs are not too dissimilar, except perhaps slightly more detailed.

The sony XB700 has both bigger and more detailed bass (while being able to extend to the deepest freqs). That is the phone I recommend if you are a bass head.

The product(red) is good because it is supporting a good cause, but you would be far more helpful to the cause (and your ears) if you bought some koss portapros for 35$ and donated the 165$ you have left to a reputable organization.

Monster makes some fine products (turbine coppers), but the majority of stuff is overpriced by a huge margin (audio cables, video cables, usb cables, and dr. dre's whole line basically). headphones in general already have high markup prices (sennheiser and others are no exception), but the beats line is marked up into oblivion.
I want to help foster audiophiles by leading them away from the way overpriced, and keeping them in the budget area, thus allowing them to get more headphones and DACs and amps and other equipment to aid them on their journey.
What I have said here is both my estimation based on what I have heard, and what has echoed around headfi for a VERY long time.
the cable is not high quality, I forgot to mention that the plastic on the outside of the cable is riding up on the headphones I am talking about and may soon tear. the cable is nothing special really, and is not especially good for 200$ headphones. people complain about the cable quality of my UE triplefis and say that the cable is terrible for 200$ headphones, but its cable is better than the beats solos (not to mention the BASS and treble on the triplefis are AMAZING).
your glowing review was not taken in light of comparatively priced headphones, which is truly what reviews are for, they are for comparing against other impressions. Maybe I should compare them to my hd555s (on sale now for 80$ on amazon) but the comparison would only lead to my above conclusions.
Or should I compare them to my modded fostex t50rps (msrp 75$), which some say beat sennheiser hd650s?
should I compare them to my intimately detailed yet bass booming triplefis ( 200$)? they would be destroyed in every aspect (especially bass) but comfort.
I said that they had big mid-bass (which is true). this is just about the only thing positive I can say about them in comparison to any decent headphone I have heard. That was my attempt at being two-sided.

Not the first time I have heard the Monster Beats being compared to the Koss PortaPro. On a Swedish price comparison site, a reviewer wrote about the Beats Studio: "Soundwise, they sound about the same as the PortaPro, which I have been using for several years. These headphones have got built in amplifiers, so the sound is a bit more powerful, and the noise cancellation shuts out sounds from the outside. But I thought there would be a bigger difference between these two headphones."
So I think you have got a point, turimbar1. If the Monster Beat headphones were to be priced more in a category fitting the sound they deliver, it would probably cost less than $100.

100+ Head-Fier
Pros: cheap, big bass
Cons: mids nonexistent, highs are harsh, distorts music
These work as decent earplugs, but I would not use them for anything else unless I had to. These were some of my first non-ibuds earphones and they were really good compared to the ibuds, but that is not saying much. I was really happy with them because I had nothing to compare them to at the time, so I tried making music with "Reason." I would listen to the music through them, then through the crappy stock macbook speakers, and the speakers had sounds that the earbuds did not, and vice versa. From this, I developed a sneaking suspicion that these were not the proverbial "bees knees" and were actually kinda bad outside the big bass. This was confirmed when I got the Sennheiser HD555's, those blew me away.

SO if all you have is 10$ and you want big bass, these are fine, but if you can spend 19$+ then I would get some cheap koss', maybe the portapros or the KSC75's

100+ Head-Fier
Pros: punchy bass, good extension in both bass and treble, excellent isolation, warm, easy to drive, good build quality
Cons: warm, not as analytical as others, weird fit for some

[size=medium]
I really like them, they are not as crisp as my sennys and the soundstage is more narrow (to be expected from iems) but their bass is noticeably better (it extends much better) and they are very enjoyable to listen to, I do not think there is any "burn in" time on them because of the armature drivers, but I will continue listening to see if anything changes. Also the sound insolation works quite well and I notice details I never have before because I assumed I was hearing outside noises on my open cans (the tapping of someones foot on a recording of chopins "revolutionary etude") so that is pretty cool. They are not as analytical as sennheisers notoriously are, but they warm without the exaggerated bass and thin treble that grados sometimes suffer from (I cannot stand it personally, it was grating, sr80s).

I am sorry I cannot compare it to any other iem, but the closest iems Ive heard are bose, so I dont even bother.

the size and shape does not bother me at all because I have large earholes so they fit fine, although I have a bit of trouble figuring out how to angle them in my ear sometimes.
