New Head-Fier
Pros: quiet background good sound
Cons: limited amplification
This is a great sounding portable DAC+Amp. Happy I still have one, since it's no longer produced.

Very black background given the price. Good clean sound despite only USB power.

Have larger more powerful amps and they have more noise in the background.

Small and easily portable. Solid, well built.

A bit of hissing when turning volume nob, which is not super smooth in turning, but only then. Prompt customer service from the company.

Pros: relatively detailed and fun to listen to
Cons: need more treble detail
These are warm but detailed. They are fun to listen to, like the other Hifiman products (I have a couple).

I enjoyed using them and got a HE560.

Will give them as a gift to somebody. They are nice open headphones for the price. I can expect they will enjoy them.

Still working after a year of use.

Pros: detailed and neutral
These are detailed, bright, and well constructed headphones. That's what I like. Very neutral.

They compete with audio technica woodies around this price. Much of my music sounds great on them.

If you like those, you'll like this. The bass is pleasant and treble is great.

They are comfortable I think.

Pros: great sound after pads replaced with better ones
Cons: stock sound is boring but not bad, need to replace the pads
The stock sound is boring. Now discontinued and newer revision coming out.

Replaced the pads with HM5 pads and modded the ports and internals. Got an OCC angled cable from VMODA.

Result: great headphones for the price when I bought them, considering the total. Gave them as a gift and he who got them was very happy. Still using them.

They survived being thrown! Not most comfortable headband unless you have large head. New pads make them quite comfortable.

There are much more impressive mods out there. Changing the cups and the cables and pads and these can deliver great sound. They are boring with stock sound, but not bloated. They have reasonable detail for the price <200$.

New Head-Fier
Pros: great for vocals and classical
Cons: the plastic wings on headband could be made sturdier
This headphone goes for much below its MSRP.

It's something you ought to get if you listen to vocals and classical and don't want to bother other people.

These are bright and extremely detailed. Although their frequency response seems rolled off, they sound great. How come? The reason is that they are easy to drive and the areas in the FR where they are solid. They are musical, not particularly neutral, N-shaped in overall sound. For those that like that sort of thing. Works better for some genres than others.

The wooden cups are great. The cable is good but you need to be careful with it.

You will hear all the noise in the recording very clearly. But you also hear a great amount of detail you would not otherwise easily get to hear at this price point.

The design is very comfortable and they seal well. Nobody will hear you and you won't hear them.

Large size and excellent detail. No headband adjustment needed.

Pros: detailed, great for classical music
Cons: breaks easily given the build quality, cable not removable
This is a great (now discontinued) headphone model given the price.

These are bright and detailed. For classical music, although you don't get much base. Great for vocals.

The design is very comfortable and they seal well. Nobody will hear you and you won't hear them.

Large size and excellent detail. No headband adjustment needed.

Only con is that they break very easily. Had a pair break when it fell from a bed.

New Head-Fier
Pros: mosty neutral, detailed, angled pads, no discomfort after long listening sessions
Cons: everyone can hear your music in other rooms
This is a really nice headphone. It comes with a rigid and solid stock cable and packaged in a wooden box with a sliding wood and metal lid. The amount of foam prevents damage from shipping well.

It is quite smooth and actually quite forgiving of recording flaws, especially high frequency noise. You won't hear noise in the recording too audibly. Yet the detail and timbre for the music is excellent and loud. So there is great musicality.

Thus it has reproduces some of the most realistic woodwinds and brass I have heard.

The bass is clear, not muddy at all. Neutral headphone, that reaches high but rolls off a bit on the high end. Relatively smooth rolloff with only one hum on treble.

Some people say it's a bit analytic, but I find it a bit warm. So if you like a slightly warm sound but not too warm, with punchy base, this is for you.

While there is not a huge amount of bass (so you need to equalize it a bit to get more), since the bass is rather detailed, this doesn't hurt the sound at other frequencies.

Needs a reasonably good amplifier for maximum detail and volume. But also works well, 1/2 turn of the volume knob, from things like studio equipment (meant for recording and monitoring, not so much listening or running difficult to run headphones).

The design is solid and very comfortable, my ears don't touch the cushions. Seems to disappear when playing, very airy sound and wide soundstage.

Needs a bit of equalization for string concert music, but then works great. Works great right off for all other kinds of music.

The nice thing about this is that it is very easy on the ears. Long listening sessions won't produce discomfort. Which is quite important.

No cons at the price <900, although I like brighter headphones. With the HE560 I merely boost the volume and get the detail I demand but without fatigue. Maybe this is actually a better long run approach perhaps.
