HIFIMAN RE-400

Prelude:
HIFIMAN probably doesn’t have to prove to anyone that he knows about headphones like few people. Of course, provided that we like well-balanced and American tuning of the headphones. This time I will take a closer look at a very interesting and quite well-known in-ear model of this manufacturer, which is the HIFIMAN RE-400, currently costing about 79 USD. I cordially invite you to read it.

Unboxing and user experience.

First of all, we have an unusual situation here, because the headphones are packed in a hard plastic box, and additionally, accessories and a hard case are included separately, unfortunately without the manufacturer’s logo. The set includes ten paper filters for headphones that allow us to tune our headphones according to preferences. We also get a large set of tips, three sets with a double collar, one set of large tips with a double collar, three quite original white tips in size s, m, l. The headphones themselves are extremely small and do not have a detachable cable. Its lower part is secured with a braid, it also has an angled 3.5mm plug. On the distributor we have the inscription HIFIMAN and the name of the model. The rest of the headphones are not braided, but thanks to this we gain comfort of wearing. The domes are microscopically small and therefore fit perfectly in virtually any ear and provide excellent isolation and fit.

img_20230522_162808.jpg

Sound:
Moving on to what is equally important with comfort, i.e. the very sound of the headphones, I can safely say that the competition has something to be ashamed of.

BAS:
The low tones are fast, definitely keeping up with bass or rock arrangements. The bass is perceptible and not overwhelming, which bodes well considering the current price of the headphones, which is USD 79. In this price range, we usually have strongly emphasized bass and its low quality, of course there are exceptions to this rule, but more on that in a moment. Low tones also do not flood the whole and give a pleasant rhythm to the whole. We can not only hear them, but also feel them. They are at a nice distance which further translates into a greater sense of depth and scene.

Mids:
The mids are slightly spaced out on the V plan, have a dark but very balanced and natural character. Vocals are engaging and show details very well, for this price range it is very good. I like the balanced and very consistent character in the midrange. Vocals don’t sound flat but inviting to listen to, smooth but not lifeless which is a great result. In addition, the midrange shows details and layers very well for this price range.

Treble:
They have been slightly dimmed, but they are promoted and consistent with the total tuning that HIFIMAN presented in the RE-400. The tuning shows the instruments great and not tiring, although they may be slightly dimmed compared to more expensive models, they are still safe and very nice for this price cap. Additionally, their purity and clarity are phenomenal. All this means that I definitely rate this model as extremely well-tuned.
img_20230522_162744.jpg

Comparison:

HIFIMAN RE-400 ($79) VS iBasso IT00 ($79)

HIFIMAN RE-400 is a more V-tuned model, while iBasso in the IT00 model opted for U-shaped tuning. In the case of the IT00 we have stronger bass, a slightly closer and less linear midrange and more emphasis in the high frequencies. In addition, the RE-400 are much smaller, have smaller domes and do not have a detachable cable. However, at this price, this does not detract from their functionality.

HIFIMAN RE-400 ($79) VS AUNE E1($79)

The current price of AUNE E1 puts them close to the HE-400. The Aunes have much more top end and brighter tuning, but I personally prefer the RE-400’s natural and neutral presentation. Of course, this is a matter of completely individual preferences. Both pairs set the bar extremely high. Above their price ranges, which allows me to rate them on an equal level. If you like light tuning then choose aune e1, if darker tuning HIFIMAN RE-400 should be your favourite.

Soundstage and controls:
The sound stage focuses largely on the depth and quality of the transmitted information, the resolution is very good, but the width of the stage is average. This is not a defect, but a feature that this model is endowed with and you should just remember about it. The headphones are easy to control and do not require too much from us, which is their additional advantage. Although they really like the extra electricity and profit from it.

Summary:
The HIFIMAN RE-400, priced at $79, is a great introduction to the winding and full of surprises world of audiophiles. Well-balanced and well-balanced V-shaped headphones with excellent bass, slightly recessed, but very natural and pleasant midrange, and a gentle and balanced treble. This allows me to place this model of headphones very high, despite the lack of a detachable cable, a stage not very developed on the sides, which they make up for with depth and the amount of details. If you’re looking for a big soundstage, reach for the aune e1 or it00, but if you give it a chance, the RE-400 will reward you with great musical presentation and excellent isolation and comfort of use. These are very good and noteworthy headphones that have my full recommendation.

Letshuoer s12pro

img_20230517_170134.jpg

Prelude:
Letshuoer is a relatively young and very dynamically developing brand that produces equipment that is well received by audio enthusiasts. The first product that I came to check,, with my own ears, will be the s12pro model, which will complement my collection of planar IEMs and sit next to the TIN P1 and P1MAX. I do not hide the fact that I am a lover of planar headphones. The S12PRO has two major differences from the S12. Apart from the color, it is an additional high-frequency filter and replaceable cable plugs. So let’s move on with the review.

img_20230517_144807.jpg

Unboxing:
First of all, I had the feeling of communing with a premium product, and yet currently s12pro are priced at 139 USD. The white cardboard box contains an information leaflet and a handful of documentation. Three pairs of wetsuits in sizes s, m, l and two sets of tips in sizes s, m, l (black and transparent with a black sleeve). Going further, the manufacturer took care of a beautiful leather case made of eco-leather and a great quality coaxial cable terminated with a 0.78mm connector and a multi-plug, we have at our disposal a 3.5mm se, 2.5mm and 4.4mm bal plug. So basically we already have a fully functional set and we don’t have to worry about anything. The conical cord, despite its considerable thickness, is flexible and comfortable to wear. The headphones themselves are small and have similar domes to the ikko OH1. In addition, two ventilation holes were taken care of, but in discreet places, so the insulation did not suffer that much. The domes fit securely in my ears, which provides a great listening experience. The stock case is small and discreet, but easily holds headphones and accessories. The set and the presentation are really impressive and thought out in every smallest detail.

img20230517143408.jpg

Sound:
Moving on to the sonic value now, having a pair of planar IEM headphones at home I can confidently say that the competition in this area is really growing. Which makes me very happy.

Bass:
Low frequencies are almost linear and very technical, great bluntness and very decisive impact. Huge dynamics and lightness of low frequencies are really surprising. Rock, rap and electronic music literally began to burst with life. In the pop or kpop genres, the effect was less noticeable, but still visible and able to impress. It’s hard to achieve such results in dynamic converters. Of course it is possible, but not in this price range. The whole thing was additionally complemented by a strong and decisive sub-bass that made the drums or other instruments easily felt.

Mid tones:
Here I had the pleasure to hear a little curiosity, namely Letshuoer in the s12pro model used a very interesting effect by withdrawing the vocals. Which resulted in a lot of depth and breadth of the message, without causing the feeling of detachment of the vocals from the whole. The instruments resonate selectively and strongly technically. It will not be an exaggeration to call this presentation definitely technical which is very impressive in this price range. Every instrument is heard and felt. The vocals do not disappear in the background, but stay close to neutrality and encourage you to analysis of subsequent tracks, which gives great results. It allows you to analytically break down our music into prime factors, and at this price it is a rarity.

Highs:
They are soft and pleasant, showing the brighter side. I like the great and still neutral timbre despite the brightening, and the excellent presentation of the instruments. The technical layer of the treble is definitely over the budget that we will pay for the s12pro. We also have no problem with sharpness and unpleasantness in the case of music based on a large number of string noumens. Classical or jazz music will definitely appreciate it.

img20230517143447.jpg

Stage and imaging and control:
As I said, the soundstage is large, especially in depth. The imaging, layering and technical side are beyond my expectations, which allows me to increase the feeling of money well invested. The S12pro definitely needs amplification, but most portable dongles will certainly drive them without any problems. iBasso DC04PRO, xDuoo link2bal, dunu dtc500 had no problem.

Comparisons:

Letshuoer s12pro ($139) vs Tin p1 max($99):

Both proposals are based on a planar transducer, in the case of s12pro it has a diameter of 14.8mm and in tin p1 max it is 14.2mm. Letshuer s12pro have aluminum and slim housings, while P1MAX are made of resin and have larger domes. Sonically, the P1max are definitely more direct, less technical and smoother. Vocals in the s12pro are more technical, but also less direct. In the S12pro, the technical layer is much more on the podium, but the P1max have a more forward midrange.

Letshuoer s12pro ($139) vs Tin P1 ($169):
Tin P1 is a true legend from which it all began, but it is very difficult to control them correctly, which is not the case with the s12pro. In addition, the P1s have a much sharper treble, requiring much more synergy. Letshuer s12pro also have a much better and better controlled bass, which is their strong asset. The stage in the s12pro is also bigger and deeper. In turn, p1 are definitely more linear in presentation.

Letshuoer s12pro ($139) VS iBasso IT01X ($119):
iBasso in the IT01X model perfectly matched the midrange and turned up the bass strongly, as for dynamic headphones with a double beryllium-plated speaker, they managed to achieve a great effect. Despite everything, the technical layer and the speed of the transfer stand out strongly on the Letshuoer s12pro side. However, the vocals are closer and more saturated in it01x.

img_20230517_170201.jpg

Summary:
Letshuoer s12pro for the price of 139 USD present a completely different approach to the topic of planar IEMs compared to the competition, primarily focusing on the excellent technical and vocal layer. They have an excellent and ruthless character that cannot be denied. All in all, they are a must-have item for any budding audiophile on a budget. They make it possible to understand and accept music in accordance with its raw technical layer. This is a good proposition for lovers of fast and dynamic music with a pleasant and good bass. The vocals are a bit specific, but they do not stand out in the background. Although privately I prefer those in TIN P1MAX. This is not yet the level of top headphones or over-ear headphones, but for the price it is indecently good and it’s a great direction. The ergonomics were amazingly good, and the insulation far exceeded my expectations. Which additionally intensified the excellent impressions after many hours of listening. The use of short nozzles facilitated the implementation. For my tests I used tidal, apple music, my own tracks, including dense DSD files. It is worth noting that in this case, the better the quality of the file, the more we could get out of the headphones. s12pro is a model which, however, like electricity very much despite easy control. letshuoer s12pro has long proven its incredible value against the backdrop of many recognized reviews. It is no different in this case, the headphones are really amazing and worth every dollar spent on them. I heartily recommend them and love them.

I sold my S12 Pros due to the overpowering muddy bass sound, poor balance, and underwhelming timbre and details. I tried multiple ear tips and sources, but it lost every comparison test in my IEM inventory. To each his own...

A big leap? None, really. There are very good dongles.
EarMen Angel and xDuoo XD05 BAL are very good. Slightly more neutral xDuoo, but it has a lot of power and is more difficult to control for IEMS. The Angel is very natural, pure and somewhat more analytical. On the other hand, with power, the Aune Flamingo is very good, I really like its sound. Its problems are that it gets hot now that summer is coming to my country and that it only has a 3.5mm output.
I wouldn't recommend the Tri TK-2 because of its output impedance, it can modify the frequency response of the connected IEMS, as I mentioned in the review.
I can't comment much on iFi although I did get to hear it, it's not my sound signature.
Good luck!

Cons: slightly narrow music scene, no impact on the bass

HIFIMAN HE40se

Hifiman HE400SE

Prelude:

HIFIMAN is a popular and probably world-famous brand that produces surprising solutions from the audio world. For a long time I wanted to expand my audio collection with something from a slightly different category. Those who follow my blog or follow me on Instagram know that I like IEM headphones on a daily basis. However, as a self-respecting audiophile, or a home-grown reviewer, I can safely say that nothing human can be alien to me. So, having already a large collection of small audio, I started to develop a collection of large over-ear headphones. HIFIMAN HE400SE is a basic and legendary model that will sit in my collection next to the sivgi robin v21. I will not hide that I am quite a big lover of planar headphones for the sake of their speed and detail of presentation. However, they have their own requirements for driving.
img_20230513_135814.jpg

Unboxing:
Unpacking the cardboard box is quite standard, there is also a handful of papyrology in the original version, but my copy was devoid of it. I found the headphones themselves, a piece of styrofoam emitting a stand, which is a nice touch, but visually it is not what I expect, but at the beginning it is a good base for development. In a cardboard box I found a thick and solidly made cable, although it ended with 3.5mm, but I can already see that balanced cables will fit without any problems. That’s it for the contents of the box. At the price we will have to pay for the HE400SE, which is currently 109 USD, it is quite okay. The HE400SE are planar headphones with a large diaphragm and magnets on the front. The back is of course completely open. We also have an adapter for a large jack at our disposal. The pads themselves are hybrid by default, which provides great comfort for long listening sessions.
img_20230513_135803.jpg

Sound:
Bass:
Starting from the low frequencies, I can see that they are very fast and dynamic. Which is an inherent feature of planar transducers. The use of an open design translates into a less punctual and more resolved bass. You can feel it, but it is less tiring than in the case of closed headphones, of course not all. The mid-bass is pleasant and perfectly emphasizes genres such as rap or rock. The sub-bass is slightly less present, but I still didn’t have a sense of lack or contour.
Musical midrange: The vocal and instrumental bands are quite close to us and I did not feel their distance or artificial pumping of the stage. Vocals are clear, for me a bit warm and very musical. Readability is great. The micro dynamics are a bit behind, but the macro dynamics are great for the price we will pay for the HE400SE. The instruments are separated and well arranged. Nothing is blended or overly pushed to the foreground. Such a presentation works great in pop or jazz.
Treble: The headphones are resolving and have a noticeable treble, it is natural and does not cause such a feeling of artificial inflation. The upper frequencies are not as exposed as the midrange, we can hear them in the background, which gives a great sense of depth. In the arrangements of classical music, each of the instruments of the string section was pleasant and present in the presentation, which I liked.
Scene: The HE40SE sound with the correct depth and good width, they are intimate headphones, but this may be an intended effect consistent with their tuning.

img_20230513_135744.jpg

Synergy:
The HE400SE paired perfectly with the xDuoo TA-01B
, there is no doubt that the warming in the midrange, despite their character, had a great effect, and the headphones themselves definitely like electricity.
In the case of pairing with xDuoo MU601 and MT602, the effect was even better, the intimacy and plasticity of the message became charming and full of magical colorful message.
In combination with the iBasso DX170, its more technical style increased the detail and clarity of the message, which resulted in an even more technical presentation.

Test Files:
My original playlist on tidal, apple music, my own files.

Comparison:
HIFIMAN HE400SE ($109) VS SIVGA ROBIN V21 ($149)

The Sivga robin v21 are closed-back headphones with a v-shaped signature, with much stronger bass and brighter highs than the HE400SE, which are more balanced. They also have a narrower soundstage, but they gain from the saturation of the midrange. The HIFIMAN HE400SE also have slightly closer plans, and the Sivga V21 puts more emphasis on a brighter presentation.

img_20230513_135653.jpg

Summary:
HIFIMAN HE400SE are excellent headphones with a natural and intimate presentation, with an excellent charming message. These are not bass headphones, and they have solid drive requirements. As for the price of 109 USD, it is extremely attractive. If you like vocals and jazz, this is definitely a model worth considering. Of course, there are headphones on the market with more bass. Just like with more details or a wider soundstage. However, they do not cost $109. This makes the HE400SE with the black stock cable look really good. The only downside is that they are quite hard to drive and require a good night source. However, they can repay you with a beautiful and balanced sound.

UTWS3 TWS premium module.
Pros: battery life,
production quality,
sound, price, functionality.
Cons: hinge and no LDAC.
IMG_20230326_160206.jpg

Prelude:
FIIO UTWS3 had its premiere some time ago, but only today I decided to buy it. I chose the mmcx variant and I would like to present it to you. I invite you to read my review.
IMG_20230326_161930_799.jpg

Unboxing:
UTWS3 comes to us in a small cardboard package, in it we find a charging cable and the UTWS itself along with a short instruction manual. That would be pretty much it. Completely sufficient set. The UTWS 3 itself is quite large and made of very high quality black plastic. We have two function buttons at our disposal, one on each module. A great touch is the ability to configure them from the application level. The application also includes a 26-step hardware volume control, which is completely independent and can be done from the modules without the need to use the application. For this we have a large matte case. In which larger headphones such as nxears sonata or BGVP DM8 can be easily accommodated. The case is made of plastic and the only metal part is the lid. The interior is well protected with foam and soft material, but unfortunately the hinge is what it is and it wears out quickly, you can live with it, but it could be improved, as well as the fact that the foam inside deforms very quickly. This is not a functional defect, but it is still worth working on. The case itself is made of a very thick and durable material. We also have a USB C port and we do not have inductive charging, which is an unnecessary addition, for which you usually pay a lot. The case itself allows us to charge the modules fully 3 times, and a single charge translates into 8 hours of playing, which is a great result. Considering the price of PLN 349 or USD 79, this is a very good result. We also have support for the AAC, APTX codec and apparently the TWS + connection technology, which unfortunately does not work in my case without knowing why. Despite the support of the realme 8 pro device. In addition, we have bluetooth in the 5.0 standard and the ability to update the firmware from the application level.
IMG_20230323_134252.jpg

Sound:
At the very beginning, I would like to point out that you should give at least 50 hours for the amplifiers installed in UTWS 3 to warm up to show their potential.
Bass: So let’s first look at the low tones present in UTWS3 tuning. Fiio took care of a natural and neutral presentation, but not forgetting about its home tuning. The bass is present and emphasized, despite the slight contouring, it is present and you can enjoy it. The subbass is strong and shows our songs well. Low tones are well controlled and well depicted. It’s such an entertaining adaptation, but in my opinion it’s a good solution in TWS modules that are supposed to accompany us on a trip or at work.
Vocal midrange: Although it has been slightly withdrawn, it shows a warm and very well realized message. The great quality and smoothness of the slightly recessed midrange is extremely engaging and colorful. Which allows you to immerse yourself in music and free yourself from cables. Yes, this is done at a certain cost of details and increased sound compression, but in mobile applications where we put more emphasis on the quality of comfort and ergonomics, it is an ideal solution. Treble: This aspect is always very important for the fiio, here we also have an emphasis on the upper registers, which translates into a large amount of detail in the UTWS3, and the tonal timbre has been close to neutral, which allows you to preserve the character of the connected headphones. This good and plastic approach to tuning brings the intended results in this case.
IMG_20230324_155805.jpg

Comparison:
FIio UTWS 3 ($79) VS iBasso CF01 ($120)
Having both modules, what I definitely noticed is that the CF01 is much more neutral and adds less of itself, but the Fiio in the UTWS3 model has much more power and a deeper soundstage. It’s a more entertaining yet still neutral sound. The convenience itself is also in favor of Fiio in this case, as well as the stability of the connection. However, the CF01’s neutrality is impressive and makes me have a huge fondness for them.
IMG_20230311_152635_947.jpg

Soundstage: Mentioning the width of the UTWS 3 is considerable, the depth is even more impressive, at times you can forget that it is UTWS, because the sound is really resolving.

IMG_20230326_160405.jpg

Summary:
Pairing UTWS 3 with headphones such as iBasso it01x, BGVP DM8, Anew U1, nxears sonata and many other models, and even ikko oh2 or oh1s, I felt that it was a real multimedia combine. With a great entertainment-neutral sound. Not as neutral as cf01 but still clean noise free tuning. The two built-in microphones work well, they are not perfect, but they are enough for everyday conversations in the office or at home, they get lost in the bus or subway. However, this is a common problem for many TWS. I recommend this model to every lover of comfort. The lack of LDAC is practically not audible, and the whole thing shows impressive parameters and long battery life.

Kiwi ears cadenza

Prelude:
So amazing headphones for ridiculous money, they are currently the cheapest offer from the portfolio of the kiwi-ears brand. Costing $39, the headphones made entirely of resin with metal sleeves look much more expensive than the price we will pay for them. However, in this budget we have quite a lot of competition on the market and quite a lot of saturation. Did the kiwi ears in the cadenza model defend itself not only with the quality of workmanship, but also with the sound? Let’s check for ourselves. Welcome to the MatAudiophiles review.

IMG_20230424_134752.jpg

Unboxing: Kiwi ears makes sure that we have the feeling of a solid product, despite the surprisingly low price, we get a complete and fully functional product. In a small box we find the headphones themselves, the quality of which is absolutely exemplary, three pairs of silicone overlays that significantly affect the comfort of use, and a standard 3.5mm cable in which the splitter has not been forgotten, which is a nice touch. No case was included, which is a pity because the headphones are really beautiful, but in this price range it is acceptable and does not constitute any, even the smallest disadvantage. After all, I recommend buying a cover, the resin polished to a high gloss looks beautiful and it is worth preserving its charm and beauty.

IMG_20230420_141119.jpg

ergonomics: The Cadenza are medium-sized headphones with a single dynamic driver. They fit my smaller ears perfectly, as well as those slightly larger ones. Insulation and comfort were phenomenal. The headphones provided me with comfort and great listening quality even for many hours.

Sound: Bass: The lower registers are well accentuated, but with full neutrality and naturalness. The well-developed lower range does not tire even after many hours of listening. Of course, it’s not on the same level as in the case of equipment from higher price ranges, but the cadenza can successfully compete with models up to $ 50, thanks to a balanced and very well implemented bass presentation.

Vocals: The mid-range looks very smooth, in my opinion a bit to the front, which allows you to enjoy smooth and pleasant vocals, despite the darker side of the presentation. The midrange is saturated and extended, although I slightly miss the detail characteristic of more expensive constructions, especially those with multiple fittings. On the other hand, the vocals, in particular the female ones, are really great and engaging.

Treble: The high range presentation is very smooth and safe, completely free of any sibilants or unpleasantness, which I personally prefer over the glamorous classic „Asian tuning”. Quite a large resolution and great presentation of string instruments additionally set the bar high.

Stage: Moderate depth and correct width allow you to increase the sense of intimacy and directness of the message. At the price of 39 USD, such a presentation gives a greater sense of realism, communing with music, than artificial inflation.

img_20230424_134817.jpg

Comparison:

Kiwi Ears Cadenza ($39) VS KBAR KS1 ($9.99)

Incomparably, the four times more expensive cadenza sounds much better, first of all less bass, more natural and complete. The Cadenza has more air and detail, the higher tones are much more pleasant.

Kiwi ears cadenza ($39) VS KBAR ROBIN ($59)

KBAR is famous for its excellent value for money and, in most cases, for the good matching of its headphone models. In direct comparison, the kiwi ears put more emphasis on the midrange, while the highs in the robins are shiny and strongly accentuated, which of course has the right to please, not everyone prefers the smooth and safe presentation offered by the cadenza. However, I like it much more, especially because of the much nicer vocals, which are very well realized in the cadenza. The Robins are mainly focused on the bass, and therefore in my personal opinion they sound a bit less realistic in their presentation.

Kiwi ears cadenza (USD 39) VS Tin HIFI T2 EVO (USD 59)

Comparing these two models directly, I would put comfort first, when it comes to insulation, the cadenza is the undisputed leader, but taking into account the fit, the T2 EVO is a safer choice thanks to its unique design. The Cadenza is darker and a bit less resolving. Tin HIFI in the T2EVO model, focusing primarily on a brighter presentation and a stronger accent, shows a bit more details, but the cadenza has a much smoother and creamier presentation.

Summary: Kiwi ears cadenza are surprisingly good headphones, the price of which suggests a completely different use. Great balanced tuning, on the slightly darker side I like it and it’s definitely the presentation I’m looking for. Of course, you should not expect resolution and momentum characteristic of more expensive models, but we can still enjoy the sound. Kiwi ears creates not only beautiful, but also functional and, above all, well-matched headphones, which should be emphasized. In this price range, it’s hard for me to find any,, but, if I had to look for strength, I would like a small case and I would be fully satisfied. If you like this model, you can buy it at a very good price in the official store on aliexpress or in the linsoul store.

iBasso DC03-PRO
Prelude:

IBasso is currently probably one of the undisputed leaders in terms of both mobile DAPs and small digital-to-analog USB converters. I have in my collection the entire DC series from DC01, through DC02, DC03, DC04, DC05 to one of the best USB C DAC/AMP which is the phenomenal DC06. Some problems with the availability of parts caused iBasso to decide on a "new deal", ending the great 03 and 04 series and replacing it with the DC05 and DC06 models. As a huge fan of the Cirrus Logic transducers, I felt a certain sadness in my heart. Fortunately, I have the pleasure again, literally. Immerse yourself in the sound of the iBasso DC03pro. The DC03PRO DAC/AMP comes in the same package as the DC06, we also get a very similar cable, which in this model is detachable, which I like very much. Compared to the stock DC06 cable, it is a bit thinner and has slightly shorter connectors. The DC03PRO is made of glass surrounded by an aluminum housing. In addition, physical hardware buttons for volume control have been added. Interestingly, although the same bones were used as in the DC03 model, i.e. CS43131 in a double configuration. The amplifier section and the solid clock with FDK technology have not been forgotten. This resulted in really well-trimmed parameters and a solid output power of 98mW/32Ohm. The UAC application has also been significantly expanded. Added three gain levels, a balance control, four digital filters and two voltage modes, and a 100-step hardware volume control. The whole thing makes a really impressive impression considering the price of 69 USD, which is downright ridiculously low! In Poland, iBasso DC03Pro is priced at PLN 319, which makes it extremely competitive.
IMG20230125135143.jpg

Sound:
Bass: It is more accentuated, a bit like its predecessor, but the control and quality are phenomenal, it's a deep and engaging impact that, like a cat, can attack by surprise and give you goosebumps. The cardboard and complexity of the bass is as good as in my xDuoo link2 (not to be confused with link 2 Bal). I often had to look at the price list, because I couldn't believe that something at a price below 70 USD could sound like this.

Midrange: The midrange was shown in the most natural and pure way, it is incredibly saturated, engaging and direct. Strongly and accurately conveying emotions and energy. The plans are well drawn, and there is no shortage of details. The separation is good, although here the more expensive dongles win a bit, but at the same time they cost 2/3 times more. The amount of information is well above average, and the sound itself is extremely engaging and realistic and dense.

Treble: The highs were shown in a pleasant, natural and neutral way. It is a treble that is present and in no way tiresome. The amount of information in the high registers is well above average. I liked the extension in the upper midrange and the clarity and order in the presentation of high accents. Stage: This parameter was significantly above average for the SE output, the width and depth of the stage are really impressive, and everything looks like at a pleasant, intimate concert. It's really amazing how iBasso did it.

Comparison:
DC03PRO(69UD) VS DC06(119USD)
At the beginning, I would like to point out that the DC06 is a product of a different category, in my opinion it is better, but also more expensive. We pay extra for more power, additional balance output and native MQA decoding. However, if we have a limited budget and are looking for a slightly darker sound, the cirrus DC03PRO will be a good choice. The DC06 is brighter, more resolving and faster in transmission, while the DC03PRO is denser and a bit more balanced.
DC03PRO($69) VS DC03($59) The DC03PRO wins against its predecessor in every respect. Not only functionality, but also the sound itself. iBasso, has improved its design so much that in my opinion it is worth replacing the DC3 with the one with the addition of PRO.
DC03PRO(69USD) VS DUNU DTC-500. Oh, it's gonna be a tough fight. Dunu DTC-500 is one of the best dongles in the price range up to 100 USD. However, if you want something less bright, you don't care about balanced output and you need hardware volume buttons, you will inadvertently turn your eyes towards the iBasso DC03PRO, which is a cheaper choice for slightly less demanding ears. Both devices are great and I'm happy to use both.

iBasso DC03PRO VS Whizzer DA1 CUBE (69USD) Here, the plus for the DA1 cube whizzer, I can include native MQA decoding, although iBasso DC03PRO has a detachable cable, almost twice as much power and the ability to customize from the application level. Sonically, both are at a very good level, but I love what iBasso proposes in the DC03PRO model.
IMG_20230129_141250.jpg

Summary:
iBasso DC03PRO is literally a musical revelation. Despite the lack of balance, the quality, musicality and naturalness of the sound are at an extremely high level. The price may be wrong, this is not another cheap DAC/AMP. This is a mature and well-thought-out device that has stolen my heart and I can recommend it to anyone, regardless of the budget. Works with both phone and laptop. In addition, iBasso took care of really low electricity consumption.

Is it worth upgrading from the dc05 to the dc03pro?

Hey, does your DC03Pro have slightly loose USB port connection when plugged in? When plugged in, cable have quite a bit of movement from the USB connection. Wonder if it is QC problem or it is normal for this device.

IMG_20221228_223530.jpg

Queen of Audio Gimleth:

Prelude:

QoA, or Queen of Audio, is a thriving brand owned by Kinera. The Gimleth model is a metal variant with a 10mm LCP driver. Most headphones with this type of transducer present a pretty good level of music. So far, my favorite example of using the LCP was the TIN T3plus headphones. However, I missed something in them and it seems to me that it was worth waiting for QoA gimleth.

Unboxing:
QoA attaches great importance to the beautiful and unique packaging and presentation of its products. Gimletch comes to us in a nice, colorful package. The headphones arrive with a rather large and very nice hard case, two sets of tips in sizes s, m, l and a good quality stock cable with a 3.5mm plug and 0.78mm connectors. In this price range, this set is fully sufficient. Note that the Gimleth costs $59 which makes it competitive and $10 cheaper than the TIN HIFI T3Plus.
ergonomics:
Due to the fact that the headphones are entirely made of metal, their weight is slightly higher, but they still fit securely in the ear and do not tire during long listening sessions. I spent a few days with them, listening to them for 8/10 hours straight, and I never felt tired of their weight or shape. The nozzles are extremely comfortable and provide great insulation. It is not the IDUN 2.0 level, but it is enough for leisurely city trips.
IMG_20221230_152427.jpg

Sound and Stage:
The soundstage is coherent and well-ordered, we have good depth and moderate width, not stretched by force. I like the imaging and layering. The instruments are separate and do not blend together. At the same time, they can play around the head and go beyond it. I had to remind myself often that these are $59 headphones! Because it was easy for me to think that they sound as good as if they cost at least 100 USD.
Bass: Subbass is present but not as dominant as midbass. We have a stronger accent here in the lower registers and we can easily feel the bass accents, it does not drown out other bands, nor does it flood the midrange. However, it is not only well illustrated, but also has great layers. For this price range, I can't say anything bad about the lower registers.
Midrange: This area, especially the vocals, although a bit set back from the bass line and treble. They come out extremely natural, smooth and clean. Becoming the strongest element of Gilmleth's presentation. Vocals are lively, saturated and realistic. Instruments also present their full potential, of course with some limitations. We can't expect the same level as, for example, in the twice as expensive BQEYZ Autumn, but for $ 59 it's brilliant.
Treble: Treble was realized in such a way as to break the gentleness and soften the midrange. We have a lot of ballast here, which adds life and energy to the presentation, but if someone is looking for a smooth presentation, then they should definitely go for the TIN T3Plus. High tones do not sibilate and do not sting the ears, but they can remind you of yourself more strongly.

QoA Gimleth($59) VS TIN T3Plus($69)
QoA primarily have a less smooth treble and a greater emphasis on the bass. While the T3Pluses have a more comfortable outer shell. Musicality is a plus for the T3Plus, but the QoA gimleth sound more airy and lively. Tin T3Plus are much lighter thanks to the resin design, but the workmanship of the gimleths is at a very high level and if someone is not sensitive to the heavy weight of the headphones, it does not make a difference, because the gimleths are very comfortable and fit most ears perfectly.
IMG_20221230_152533.jpg

QoA Gimleth(59USD) VS KBEAR ROBIN(59USD)
The KBEAR ROBIN is a slightly older but still competitive unit consisting of a 10mm dynamic driver and 4 balanced armatures customized by kbear. Here Gimleth can be praised for clarity and vocal layer, although the stage is bigger in the case of Robins, Gimleth performs it much deeper and better arranged, Bass is stronger in robins, but Gimleth has better imaging and building layers. Here I don't think the Robins are bad headphones, but the Gimleths are tuned less fun and more mature.

Synergy:
For my tests, I used tidal music from a private playlist and the following devices:
DAP: iBasso DX170
DAC/AMP: xDuoo poke II
Dongles: Dunu dtc-500, iBasso DC06
Reciver: Qudelix 5k, Oriolus 1795S

Summary:
QoA gimleth are incredibly good headphones for an indecently low price of 59UD. The price is a killer here as the headphones play well above that amount. The tuning is lively, musical and very enjoyable. The bass is excellent, as is the midrange. With Qudelix 5k, iBasso Dx170, xDuoo Poke II worked great. I recommend them to everyone, because it's a universal and recreational sound. QoA gimleth is not as neutral and balanced sound as, for example, Celest Pandamoon, but definitely gimleth reigns in terms of musicality and melodiousness. In fact, everything depends largely on our individual preferences. When I feel like analyzing and clinical listening I reach for the Pandamoons, but for an evening movie or listening to music before bed, the Gimleths are much more entertaining and relaxing. These are not completely soft headphones, the treble is more crunchy which is fine by me as it gives the strings a bit more life. The only slight downside is the weight of the headphones due to the material from which they were made.

Pandamon S.P.
IMG_20221229_125444.jpg

Kinera Celest Pandamon

Prelude:

Celest presented its unique S.P.D driver for the first time in the gumiho model, which was a hybrid with a closed design in a duet with a proprietary balanced armature. They announced then that they would soon show a new version of headphones based on a single S.P.D. transducer. This is how Pandamoon was created. The model is equipped with a single S.P.D transducer with a diameter of 10x10mm. The design was also changed from closed to open and the price increased from 49 USD. for a reasonable $59

Unboxing:
So let's unpack pandamoon and see what we have in the set. Along with the headphones, we get a small and neat box, with a bag for storing headphones, made of eco-leather. A bookmark with a panda motif and two sets of tips: s, m, l. There was also a cleaning tool and a 4-core spc cable with a 3.5mm plug and 0.78mm connectors.
IMG_20221230_152705.jpg

ergonomics:

Convenience has been improved and it's much better compared to the gumiho, it's already quite good in this regard. When it comes to insulation, for the sake of the open design, it is neither bad nor good, it is just typical for such a solution.

Sound:
Bass: Compared to the gumiho, tonality and balance have been greatly improved in every aspect, including the lower registers, where the bass has been smoothed out and balanced against the midrange and the rest of the frequency range. This is a good procedure because the whole thing now sounds much more even and clearer. Bass is present, but does not interfere with its presence in the midrange. Midrange: It has been much evened out and is no longer so withdrawn in relation to the rest of the band. Vocals are natural and balanced. Instruments sound full and natural. Close to neutral here, but the whole thing was slightly brightened in my opinion. We can count on a lot of details, clean and well-positioned sound, which is very good in this price range. Treble: They are neutral, natural and not fatiguing. String instruments are present and do not disappear in the background, at the same time we do not have a sharp or unpleasant sound here. Which works great for long listening sessions and when we are more sensitive to sharp treble.
IMG_20221230_152749.jpg

Comparisons:
Celest Pandamoon ($59) VS Ceest Gumiho ($49)
As I have already noticed during my review, the pandamoons gain in balance, clarity of transmission and tonality. If you're looking for a highly entertaining tummy, then gumihos will be better, but if you're interested in analysis and even playing, Pandamoons will definitely take the lead in this case. Both pairs of headphones are great and have different tuning in my opinion, one if you can't have both then go for gumiho when looking for entertainment, and if you're looking for balance head towards pandamoon.

Synergy:
For my tests, I used tidal music from a private playlist and the following devices:
DAP: iBasso DX170
DAC/AMP: xDuoo poke II
Dongles: Dunu dtc-500, iBasso DC06
Reciver: Qudelix 5k, Oriolus 1795S

Summary:
Celest pandamoon are headphones, distinguished by the type of transducer (10mm S.P.D) and open design. They will bring a lot of joy to lovers of an even, balanced sound for reasonable money. In fact, compared to the gumiho, the tonal balance, stage and ergonomics have been improved. I recommend this model to anyone who is looking for a natural and close to neutral sound. They also do not require much when it comes to electricity, which makes them quite universal and versatile when it comes to the usability aspect. This is a big qualitative leap compared to the previous version, but not because the previous version was bad, but because a completely different tuning was used. More neutral, linear, which allows us to really adjust our choice to our individual preferences. The Gumihos are great headphones that I love and the pandamoons are great for reference listening.

iBasso IT01X

Prelude:

iBasso has convinced me more than once to its philosophy by showing me music anew. This time I bet on the letter X, and the latest ibasso product, IT01X, joined my shopping list. This model is made of aircraft aluminum, and its heart is a double-sided beryllium-plated dynamic transducer with a surface area of just over 10mm. The price in Poland is PLN 520, so is it worth investing so much in this model?

Kit Contents:
This time we have a colorful box with the same tips and mousse inside as in the am05 model, even the tin is the same. So we have a very rich set of accessories consisting of four sets of tips and two pairs of foams. For this we have a great quality SPC copper cable in the 3.5 mm standard with a mmcx plug. I regret a bit that iBasso did not try to balance it, especially that IT01X like electricity very much. Nevertheless, the quality of the cable is very good and fully compensates for the lack of balance on stock. This time iBasso finally improved the nozzles, so we no longer have a problem with falling tips. Even the stock ones are starting to be very useful. This is due to the quite long nozzles in the IT01X, and the stock tips prevent their additional extension, ending practically on a par with the sleeve. The metal can with the iBasso logo is a very useful addition at this price.

Sound and ergonomics:

iBasso IT01X are very small headphones, finished in such a way that they almost completely hide in the ears, you can easily wear a hat with them or lie on your side. Such a small size will be appreciated by both women's and men's ears, because there should be no problem with the implementation of headphones. Now let's look at the sonic layer:

Bass: Definitely a strong element in the IT01X, as befits iBasso, we can rely on the lower registers. We have a very well realized range of lower frequencies with a very good amount of bass notes. The bass is complex and brilliantly depicted for this price range. I have nothing to blame him for. Definitely, the headphones need to warm up and experience a lot of power injection, otherwise the lower registers can be quite average.

Diameter: iBasso IT01X is a signature with a strongly perceptible V, which is beyond any doubt, but the vocals are clearly exposed, boldly go ahead of the line, which narrows the sense of the stage and makes it quite intimate, at the same time their structure and clarity are so beautiful that you have to be careful not to be enchanted by them because it is a really addictive drug. Our favorite singers will sing us a live concert in our home privacy. This presentation suits me very well, but it is not fully universal. It's closer to magic than to references, which in my opinion is an interesting procedure, worth attention and appreciation. Initially, the IT01X may seem like a mediocre choice, but as soon as we give them time, they will reciprocate with a powerful and interesting sound.

Treble: In my opinion, they are well developed. I really like the presentation of string instruments and the lack of sibilants. The amount of highs is good. There was no lack of energy and extension here. They are well stretched and at the same time do not cause fatigue and loss of listening pleasure.

Scene and Imaging:

The stage in IT01X is not the biggest, It is an intimate presentation with more width than depth. I really like the imaging of the plans and the amount of details. We can savor the musicality, while admiring the nuances in the sound.

Summary:

iBasso IT01X are very interesting headphones with quite original and unusual tuning. They may appeal especially to lovers of vocals and pop arrangements. If someone is looking for an intimate sound with a clear and engaging vocal presentation, they should definitely be interested in the above model. These are not universal headphones, but for me they are an indispensable element of everyday life and one of the most interesting purchases. The strength of IT01X is certainly:

Prelude:

IBasso is one of my favorite brands, which I have not hidden since the days of the good old DX160. From the very beginning I have been observing and admiring the DC series, having models such as DC01,02,03,04,05 in my collection and finally the culmination of iBasso's hard work, the DC06 model. Let's look at some technical issues first.

-DAC/AMP iBasso DC06
-USB-C to USB-C cable

-USB-C to USB-A adapter

-Warranty Card

Execution and usability issues:

iBasso is famous for its minimalistic but beautiful designs. It was no different in the case of the DC06, it is also a black block curved at the bottom with some information about the product and the hi-res audio logo. We have in this statement a detachable high-quality braided cable in the USB C and lightning standard. A nice touch is the LED signaling the file format and full support for MQA and DSD.

Sound:

Here's a small note, please don't ask me how much better DC06 is compared to DC05 because it's a completely different project! The fact that the same DAC is used does not mean that the DC05 should compete with the DC06.

Bass: It seems to me only slightly boosted, but very coherent and well-weighted, which ultimately gives a very good presentation. We can not only hear it, but also feel it, which is very desirable in many music genres. I did not feel any shortcomings here, and as befits the iBasso, the lower bands are phenomenal.

Mid: Vocals were full and the whole range was quite even with a slightly brighter presentation with great detail. At the same time, I did not lack naturalness or emotions, this is a good and well-thought-out tuning with a very pleasant message. Both male and female voices were full of emotion and realistic message.

Treble: They appeared to me bright and full of detail, while being completely held in check with an extraordinary purity and clarity. It's a beautiful use of the greatest power of sabre systems, i.e. an amazing mountain full of emotions. At the same time, the whole sounded smooth and I had no problems with treble or sibilation.

IMG_20220608_184254.jpg

soundstage:

Shown on a very wide plan with good depth, it really surprised me positively for a dongle, all instruments were in their place and were properly separated.

Power:

In this respect, the dc06 is a real monster and the undisputed king 320mW at 32Ohm in a dongle for PLN 519, it is real madness!

Summary:

iBasso Dc06 is definitely too cheap a product! At the price of PLN 519, it is almost a must-have item, which tempts not only with two outputs: 3.5 se and 4.4 Bal, but also with excellent sound, power and brilliant workmanship. This is a really great sabra sounding dongle and has my full recommendation. Well done to iBasso once again they showed who really deals the cards in the game! It should also be appreciated for impeccable signal purity, black background and great capabilities. The joy of the DC 06 will be found by all those who are looking for a slightly brighter and still natural sound at a quite decent price with a lot of possibilities and a truly armored housing. It is worth considering the DC06, which is a significant improvement over the previous DC05 and brings a lot of improvements in terms of both power and sound. This is definitely the best product in the DC series. Once again, I think that iBasso really stood up to the task, and the synergy with iBasso am05 or IT01X was phenomenal.

Just unpacked my DC06. Sounds as good as a dongle connected to a phone of pad can be. Can't emphasize enough that it's one of the few units available that comes with a Lightning cable and has a balanced 4.4 jack. So, I can get the hi-res level sound from my iPhone or iPad.

Kinera golden IDUN 2.0

Kinera golden IDUN 2.0

Prelude:

Kinera golden IDUN 2.0 headphones are a continuation of the great model, which was the first generation IDUNY. This time, however, practically everything has been changed, leaving only a sketch of the predecessor's concept. A new molding was used, the design and fittings inside were changed. Next, the two-way hybrid concept with three transducers has been left, where we have 1x7mm dynamic and 2x balanced armatures, one is custom and the other is original Knowles. The packaging itself has also been changed, giving it a slightly more "mystical charm".

Unboxing:

Unpacking is a real pleasure, the headphones themselves look phenomenal and are made of hand-painted resin. Even the smallest detail was taken care of by adding an excellent quality 8-core spc cable with interchangeable plugs. We have a 4.4mm tip and a classic 3.5mm tip at our disposal, plus a great quality 6.5mm adapter. From my point of view, the common 2.5mm plug is still missing. However, the addition of two sets of vocal and balanced tips and two pairs of foams makes up for it all, and the icing on the cake is the brilliant and well-designed case. All this for $169! I think a lot of companies should learn from kinera when it comes to kit content.

Sound:

Bass: Compared to its predecessor, it is much more refined, more mature and definitely more vivid, it has more sub-bass and is a denser, less skeletal image than its predecessor. Here we have a full and smooth picture of perceptible strong sound. This allows you to literally immerse yourself and relax with music. I like the natural and pleasant accent in the lower registers.

Midrange: The mids are shown in a phenomenal and charming way, they are mesmerizing and the midrange is direct, dense and strong. It's a direct presentation where everything sounds smooth and clear. Separation and aeration have not been forgotten, which gives an excellent spatial presentation.

Treble: Here the focus is on softening and safe tuning, the whole is smooth, but vivid. Full of details, nuances and can delight. This is a safe and very universal tuning. It's obvious someone has been working on it for a long time.

IMG_20221029_003044.jpg

Stage:

The stage in IDUNACH 2.0 is delightful, wide and with excellent depth, which makes them truly versatile headphones.

Summary:

Kinera golden IDUN 2.0 is a completely new quality and a new deal. The design of the well-received headphones has been completely improved and redesigned. A number of significant and significant improvements have been applied, and the headphones themselves not only look amazing, but also sound great, in a light, pleasant and unobtrusive way. At the same time it can be heard that this is a mature and well-thought-out tuning. Therefore, for its price of 169 USD, I consider this model to be excellent and actually they do not have any major disadvantages for me. Considering the excellent insulation and great fit, I can recommend them to anyone who is looking for a universal and pleasant tuning.

iBasso Dx170.

Prelude:

iBasso is one of my favorite audio brands on the market, not only have they undergone a huge transformation over the last few years, but they actually don't have weak products recently. This means that I am eagerly waiting for new products on the market. As you know, I already have in my collection a whole series of dongles from dc01 to dc06, or it00, 01x and even my beloved am05 with cb16 cable. Some of these devices have accumulated, but I still looked at the empty place on the shelf where the dx160 once stood with great sentiment. Therefore, despite having fiio m11plus ess, I decided to supplement the collection with dx170.

Unboxing and making:

jpg.jpg

The Dx170 comes to us in almost a twin package as its predecessor, the equipment is also similar and includes: The player itself, a silicone case, a usb c cable, two sets of screen protectors. The device itself does not differ much visually from its predecessor, but it is more slender. It looks more dignified and more "premium",,. The power button was also abandoned and its replacement was used in the volume knob, which was embedded deeper. However, the biggest changes took place inside, where practically the entire layout was rebuilt. Changing the DAC chip also resulted in changes such as: A newer processor, faster RAM memory, or other numerous improvements.

Sound:
I will start with the section dedicated to headphones, i.e. Phone out:
For starters, 3.5mm SE:

Bass: Well controlled, but kept on the entertaining and polite side of the force. We will not run out of lower bands, but it will not be at the expense of other frequencies. We can feel the overtones of individual bass instruments and easily surround ourselves with a strong and tight lower range. In my opinion, we will meet here with a slight warming, which gives us pleasure from listening.

Diameter: Has been smoothed and rounded. Relative to the DX160 we have a much smoother and even more musical presentation with great and clear vocals. They are very engaging and enjoyable. Here it is thanks to the Cirrus dice, which I personally love. Not only the whole has an entertaining and very clean overtone, but also the realism and naturalness of the message and a large, really large amount of details have been preserved. It can be heard that this tuning is for lovers of quiet listening, and not for purists looking for analytics and neutrality, which for me is a great procedure.

Treble: It is very safe, it has been slightly rounded, but we do not have a shortage here, or a loss in the upper registers for musicality. We can feel surprised by the huge amount of detail and beautiful smooth presentation. The resolution is high and I had no doubts that, despite the low price, the iBasso Dx170 is a player that is sonically very mature and provides the right level of musical experience.

Stage:

The scene is slightly less stretched to the sides compared to the DX160, but it significantly gains in depth and three-dimensionality. This wide and elliptical arrangement of instruments, unlike dx160, is significantly improved depth, which for me personally is a huge plus.

Sound 4.4 Ball:

When connected to the balanced headphone output, we get a significant improvement in tonal range, the stage becomes clearly larger and more holographic. The one on the 3.5mm output is already impressive, so all the more kudos to iBasso for a decent approach to the subject. The power increases twice and thus even one of my favorite over-ear headphones, i.e. SR2, gains control. Balance also provides an even cleaner and clearer sound, and its overall signature is the same as that of the 3.5mm output.

Line Out:

It's actually the icing on the cake. First of all, iBasso listens carefully to users and this time the ability to charge the device during USB DAC mode has been added, which significantly increased its functionality. The DX170 in line mode can easily compete with much more expensive desktop DACs and is able to easily win this competition. It's a great piece of equipment both as a USB DAC and as a DAC in our desktop system. And all in all, for most users, it may be enough to start with.

Power:

2.jpg.jpg

As in the predecessor, i.e. dx160, we will not run out of it for most headphones, and it's already at the se output. After balance, it is much better than the competition in the same price range, and even higher. It is worth noting that signal purity is impeccable and here the strongest side of dx160 has been further improved.

Responsiveness:

Virtually everything has improved over DX160. Starting with a significant improvement in terms of Bluetooth, Wifi and battery life. The operation of the system itself has also been improved, and although it is still not a high-end DAP, everything works smoothly and there are no reasons to be dissatisfied.

Comparisons:

iBasso Dx170(450USD) and Fiio m11plus ess.(699USD)

Comparing these two devices is not entirely fair, because the price difference between them is considerable. Fiio m11plus ess wins when it comes to streaming and battery life. However, it is much larger and less handy than the dx170, which also has a much better screen and, unlike the m11plus ess, fits easily in your pocket. Don't get me wrong here, the DX170 works fine with the tidal environment, however, there is no LDAC in receiver mode and it does not support AIR-PLAY, the dx170 runs smoothly, but the responsiveness of the m11plus ess is yet to come. Sonically, however, it's a completely different matter. Of course, a lot depends on personal preferences. Fiio m11plus ess sounds colder, more analytical, with pushed back vocals and a more stretched soundstage. It's a more technical and ruthless sound. The Fiio strongly emphasizes the extremes of the band. Personally, I like the warmer and musical presentation of the music better with the DX170, which in my opinion also has better depth, a cleaner background and does not lag behind in terms of detail. What I didn't like about the fiio was the completely useless digital filters, those in the DX170 significantly affect the sound and allow you to tune it to your personal preferences. It is known that on the plus side of the m11ess we can add a 4.4mm line output or a three-stage gain adjustment. However, the DX170 fared much better with IEM type headphones, maybe it was due to the lower output impedance, or a different power distribution.

iBasso DX170($450) vs xDuoo Poke II ($390)

This is a comparison of two completely different categories of devices, on the one hand we have an excellent and well priced DAP, and on the other hand an equally well made and priced mobile DAC/AMP. Let me start with the most important thing, both devices do not compete with each other in any way, but both are built around DAC circuits from cirrus logic. Here the xDuoo will sound more neutral, less emphasizing in the musical direction. Overall, poke II doesn't add much from itself. iBasso is more musical, it emphasizes the bass more and introduces more musicality. But both devices are great and deserve appreciation. It all depends on what is closer to us. If we are looking for an all in one device, the DX170 will be closer to this idea. If we are looking for a more neutral presentation, the xDuoo will sound less colorful.

Music used for testing:

1. Lindsey Stirling – Ice Storm, 2. Michael Jackson – Thriller, 3. Lana Del Rey- Love, 4. Alexz Jonhson – look At Those Eyes, 5. Nightwish, 6. Epica, 7. Scares on poles - Saw tango

Summary:

Well done, iBasso is a very good brand that is proud to be successful. Today I can confidently say that the DX170 is a successful evolution of its predecessor. Most of the problems with the DX160 have been fixed, the presentation has been softened and musicalized while retaining all the greatest advantages of its predecessor. All this makes the DX170 a strong player on the market at the moment with a price of USD 450, and in Poland it is PLN 1999. I think that the DX170 turned out great both with headphones such as am05, where it sounded clear and musical, and IT01X, where it was able to drive them properly, Tin P1max also turned out great, and with BGVPDM8 it caught even better synergy than my beloved DX160 . It easily handled the iBasso SR2 or sivga robin V21. I recommend the DX170 to all lovers of musical and pleasant playing, actually it's hard to find a better value for money nowadays!

Admission:
Magic is a relative concept, for one it is everyday life, and for another a significant deviation from the norm. The concept of magic will appear in society from the flooding of history. Why I started today's entry with a rather unusual introduction you will find out in a moment. I remember how it would be yesterday the day when I first went to the audio salon and bought my first "professional headphones,,. For an astronomical sum of about 50USD. Then it was a great day for me, today having a whole wardrobe of equipment I still approach these memories with sentiment. It was a time for me, full of "witchcraft" and fascination, when everything was epic. Today, after a dozen or so years of development, my enthusiasm has not only not weakened, but has also strengthened by an increasing appetite for novelties. I'm very impressed with how these little fleas can play. The IEM market is one of the fastest growing in the entire audio industry. Anyone who thinks that IEMs give way to large over-ear models is cardinally mistaken. Having several successful IEM models in the collection, I decided to supplement it with the latest work of kinera, i.e. an inexpensive hybrid with the code name hodur. Hodury are created primarily for entertainment, so they will compete with equally entertaining models, such as:

1. BGVP DM8 vood craft- 349usd

2. Orivetti new primancy- 299USD

3. Sftears Volume- 289USD.

4. BQEYZ Outumn- 200USD.

5. KINERA GOLDEN IDUN 2.0 – 169USD.

The test platform will be carried out on:

DAP:

1.iBasso dx170- 449 USD.

2. Shanling m2s- 199USD.

3. xDuoo XIII- 120USD

DAC/AMP:

xDuoo xd05plus-289USD

xDuoo poke II- 390USD

Reciver:

Qudelix 5k-99 USD

Oriolus 1795S- 120 USD

Dongles:

1.Lotoo paw s1- 169USD

2.xDuoo link2 bal- 149USD

3. iBasso dc06- 120USD

4. DUNU DTC500- 89UD.

I will be judging based on files from TIDAL HI-FI platforms with playlisy "mataudiophiles,,. I added my own files and a collection of DSD pop and jazz.
Well, since I have presented you with the rules of the game, it's time to start the fight itself.

Prelude:

Kinera is a company that creates many timeless and original projects. I have in my collection such models as: IDUN, IDUN 2.0, celest gumiho and the latest work or hodur. It is distinguished by an unusual design with high quality of workmanship and original design of transducers. We have three very sensible transducers here. One dynamic 10mm with a composite diaphragm works with a 10mm EST/magnetostatic driver in coaxial, which allowed for excellent energy management, for high tones high-quality balanced custom fittings are included. This was complemented by high-end crosover and acoustic chambers.

Unboxing:

Since we already have information about the interior of the hodur model, let's take a look at what we get in the set. The packaging itself is of high class, as befits a god of war! In an angular box we will find the following equipment.A set of final audio tips from the E series, in every possible size, vocal kinera tips, balanced kinera tips, beautiful custom hardcover case, cleaning bar and a great quality cable with interchangeable plugs, consisting of 4 spc wires. In addition, we have a 3.5 and 4.4 ball tip.

Appearance of the headphones themselves:

Hodury are relatively small and ultra comfortable headphones, the body was made of aluminum, and their design itself was broken with thorns from crystals, personally I do not like such accents, but I admit that the kinera did it extremely tastefully.

Match:

Hodury lie great in my ears and even after many hours of sessions I do not feel discomfort. People with small ears should have no problem fitting hodur to their auricles. The design is similar to tin p1 or magaosi k3hd, even perfectly ergonomic oriveti are not inferior to them, and I consider them ultra comfortable. Only iBasso it01x for the sake of a much smaller size were slightly more comfortable, but at the expense of insulation.
.trashed-1672052046-IMG_20221126_115231.jpg

Insulation:

Speaking of which, I must admit that the kinera in the hodur model provides a good level of insulation, maybe it is not idun 2.0 or BGVP DM8, but the hodura make up for it with comfort and do not stand out much from the rest.

Control:

Despite the low impedance and high sensitivity, hodurs like better sources with low output impedance. The DX170 0d iBasso performed perfectly, just like the DTC500 from DUNU. With xDuoo link 2 was minimally heard noise, but the whole thing harmonized perfectly.

sound/Replaced by:

Hodury are quite unusual, in their own way unique headphones, whose tuning and color refer to the description and name. It is a dark and dark presentation of music with a resounding and dark glow.

Signature:
Here we have a well-known from IDUN 2.0 models signature in the shape of the letter W- W shape. The whole retained a rather dark character with a visible "glow", breaking the concept in key areas by a strong impact. The tuning itself is strongly roaring.
Bass: has a strong, almost soboofer punch in the subbass, thus obtaining the effect in which the drums can resound astonishingly and almost epic. Compared to the BGVP DM8, we have an emphasis on more air and a much smaller hump on the midbas. The DM8 emphasizes the bass in a more pointed way.On the other hand, comparing the hodury with softears volume, we have here much more impact in the lower range, in the volume bass is less exposed, more neutral and deep, while both presentations are interesting in my opinion and will appeal to another recipient.
BQEYZ otumn has definitely less information at the bottom, lower resolution, but the bass in otumn is very musical which allows them to defend themselves, given the significant difference in price, 299vs 199 USD. In general, the bass in kinera hodur is well textured and really captivating with its strength and quality, compared to idun 2.0 it has a higher resolution and is more strongly emphasized, which with almost twice the difference in price is completely understandable and justified.
Midrange: The midrange tones in the hodur model are extremely natural and mesmerizing. They have a clear glow and brightening unlike the BGVP DM8 midrange are less warm and a bit more natural, the resolution is better in hodurach, but DM8 have a huge amount of information, which can be overwhelming, but it can also be pleasant. On the other hand, the juxtaposition of the mid-range in hodurach and softears volume, which are famous for their excellent vocals, is even more interesting. Hodury are less direct, but a bit more natural, while volumes are closer and more spectacular. The amount of information in the hoduras can really surprise, the volume is more glamorous, a bit more candy. Don't get me wrong, I love volume for their great tuning, however, they are completely differently tuned from slightly more aggressive hodur. Orivetii new primancy is an older design, but it is also a W-shape with a slightly less resolving midrange and definitely less neutral tuning.Outumn mają mniejszą separację i mniej powietrza, lecz są też bardziej gładkie.
Treble: The treble, thanks to the use of an electrostatic transducer in the hoduras, has excellent resolution and great extension, this is a very clear and present part of the presentation. DM8s have much less treble and lower resolution. Hodurs are neutral and full of air, strings and stringed instruments sound excellent, with a huge amount of detail and information, easily beating the possibilities of the competition.
Hodurs have solid, smooth and shiny high tones. We also do not have an excessively sharp presentation. The brilliance of the treble surpasses the fast roll-of the DM8.

Stage:
In the hodur model, the focus was primarily on consistency and depth. The width is average, but the imaging and the amount of information definitely make up for it. We have a spherical stage here, everything naturally surrounds our head, each instrument is separated and perfectly placed. In DM8 we have a similar scene, but much less air. Volume play wider, but not so spatially.

Summarized:

Kinera Hodur is an extremely interesting model, extremely comfortable and small, playing with great panache and spectacular, musical character. I recommend this model to anyone who is looking for versatile, versatile and pleasantly tuned headphones. If you do not like w-shape and conquered bass, you are definitely closer to golden idun 2.0, which although they are also w-shape, but to a lesser extent. For 299USD I consider hodury to be great and recommendable headphones. Great job!
