Need power to be better (just about the sound)
Pros: Pretty nice with a good DAP
nice wearing and cavity
Cons: lack of texture
sub-bass
It was in the Beijing’ exhibition that I heard some news about KBEAR Aurora. It is praised by a lot of friends of mine, so that I am wondering that how Aurora sounds like. A friend lent me his but I didn’t have any square time to review it. Now the new Version comes and I received the review sample of KBEAR, wish KBEAR will better and better.

Before writing, here is what I declare:
1.I will return the sample after review it. and it won’t be a full review.
2.I just review the sound.
3.My words is exactly what I thought.

Sound:

The driver is a 10mm Titanium-coated diaphragm single DD, and I was told it is a good unit with a high cost, I tell the good or bad only from the sound.

Part one: IKKO ITM01 & stock cable

This combination provide a very “right” sound. I bought ITM01 for my phone when I am out. I didn’t review ITM01 before, the sound of ITM01 is not tasted but very simple and natural. The Aurora with ITM01 sounds right, reasonable and regular but dry. The images are condensed but not stabilize enough. But I like warm and tasted so that I don’t think it is enjoyable combination. According most of people, these units may sound good, at least not bad.

Part two: Dethonray DTR1+ & TRI Grace-S

You can easily tell the sound is more powerful and stabilize in many ways. Yes, Aurora shows its huge potential, bigger sound field and regular images like a real flagship(I know someone would say that no flagship under $500 or $1000 so I say like a flagship). the sound is balanced and tasted with a good texture.

The bass is faster and more powerful, I think the sub-bass is not enough so that the texture is not perfect, if you are not too picky it sounds good. And the mids is shinning and near, cohesive and smooth, when it turns to some IF instruments, Oh great resolution and right position.

Yes the sound has a lot to do with DTR1+ and Grace-S, but what I want to say is that the cable, player and the earphones are working together for better sound, everything matters and manages to prove what Aurora could be.

Compare:
There are a lot of excellent competitors at such a price, and many are good enough.

Falcon Pro:
Yes it is more expensive, and I think Falcon Pro is better than Aurora in many ways. But Falcon is not too much expensive IMO. If you don’t have a good source to drive them well, you may find Falcon really better, the sound is more exquisite and regular than Aurora. When you have some thing good to drive them things changes, Aurora will be a good competitor of Falcon in some ways, such as the mids and resolution. But I think if someone has a good DAP he will not just buy a IEM at this price. He may turn to JVC FW10000 or Turii.

KATO:
The same price and a star product from Moondrop. If you drive them with ITM01, the power will be almost enough for KATO while not for Aurora. While I think it is not reasonable to release some IEM which are hard to drive in this price since reviewers are not your customers, reviewers have good source while most of users may just drive them by some portable DAPs like DC05, UA2 or ITM01. Luckily that Aurora works well with such portable DAPs and will be much better when meeting good source.I think KATO is just the opposite, it is funny and tasted when you drive it casually but bad with big-power DAPs.
KATO has a good sub-bass, it is not like moondrop, at least not like the moondrops I heard before.
Nice try.

Whizzer HE03D:
If you like the design of HE03D, just pick it because it is really beautiful. As for the sound, HE03D is a little exquisite, but I think Aurora sound better than HE03D and HE03D has little potential in many ways IMO. So Aurora for sound and HE03D for design.

IE40 Pro:
I think Aurora will be more fit with music while ie40pro are just for someone to work. The bass of IE40Pro is a little werid for me. but it is right in some way according to my friend, a drummer. Once I kept listening to IE40Pro for a week because this is my only one left, I think that week was helpless.

While I want to talk more and write more, But English is not my first language, I post NA2+ and NM2+ and HANA in my Chinese review, if some one want to have a discuss, it is my pleasure.

TRI Meteor: Clear and Peaceful Sound
Pros: Balanced and nextral sound
Knowles ED 29689 + beryllium-plated DD
The bass and mids fit well with each other
The timbre is great, different units fit better than a lot of hybrids
Kbear 07 eartips
Cons: The soundstage is not big, average level
The texture of cable
The highs is not as good as the rest.
Preface:
I got this Meteor from @WendyLi ’ colleague who is in charge of domestic market, for some advice. But I would say that Meteor is already so good, and my advice turned to my review.

I am not a professional reviewer, at least not now, or at least not review IEMs in English. I have been writing reviews in Chinese for a while, maybe my review will not be as good as you guys used to read, but I will try my best. My words will be what exactly I want to express, concise and fair.

1.Unboxing

1(1).jpg

Gray box with a simple design. you can tell the name of the IEMs: Meteor.

2(1).jpg

Open it, you can see the same design as Starshine, with 5 pairs of kbear 07 eartips. By the looking of Meteor, I know Meteor belongs to Star series, all Stars are resin shell while i series are Metal.

3(1).jpg

There are two layers here, the inside one are case and Accessories. I mentioned the case when I was reviewing the i3 pri, I personally like the case very much. Good looking and useful.

6.jpg

That are all they peovide with Meteor, 8 pairs of tips could satisfy most users. A case and a cleaning cloth and a blush for cleaning, the cable is black OFC cable with a 3.5mm single end plug.

2. Configuration
Units: DD + BA
Cable: OFC
Interface:2PIN 0.78mm
Plug: 3.5mm single
FR: 20~20khz

this is what I all know.

3. Sound
(My favorite part is the sound. In fact, for me, the most important part of a earphone is the sound and the price, the decisive factors in whether I buy it or not.)

Overall
balanced and neutral sound, clean and peaceful, with a little bit of moist. This kind of sound has never been heard in the previous TRI.

Soundstage
The soundstageis is not large, a little smaller than starsea, but in terms of my sense of hearing, I am a person who has no requirements for big soundstage, so I tentatively define it as a shortcoming, which is definitely not a pro.

Imaging
The positions of imaging have been well adjusted, so Meteor handle most songs easily. The density of imaging is just right what I want, perfect. Better than starsea. I will explian the reason later.

Timbre
If you have read my review before, you may know that the timbre is the first thing I will pay attention to. Because as long as you choose the units and the shell, then something will never change, not matter what kind of the taste it will be, the timbre will not change.

I like the way how Meteor deal with two kind of units. The DD and BA have something different, but they just fit each other so well, better than i3 pro IMO. To be honest, I think the highs is not perfect, as long as you tried i3 pro, you may find what I said.

But Meteor has done a wonderful job, as we all know, beryllium - plated DD always has a neutral timbre, with a high speed. The speed make the lows a little cold and tight like BA, then DD provide a few sub-bass with a little moist, the sub-bass is the soul of the sound, if there is not enough sub-bass, then the sound will be dry. As for the timbre of ED 29689, no need to say, too familiar. As long as you recall.

Lows
Just the right amount to me, but not enough to most people. A high responding speed and a good cohesion, Meteor control its lows well from bleeding, and if you accept the DD, you maybe find the amount maybe not enough, but so right.

Meteor is not selling at lows, but the lows will not bring a bad experience to you, that is so called right amount IMO. The lows has a very good texture and a sense of precision in some way.

Mids
To be honest, I don’t talk too much about the mids. It is so typical ED 29689. Neutral timbre, right position, good resolution and a good sense of density. The mids and the bass fit well as I have said before. And the bass add a little taste to the mids.

Highs
ED-29689 is not that good at highs as its mids, so the highs will not attract you at the first time, actually Meteor is lack of the sense of highs or the amount of highs.

Why the sense of highs? Because the mids. Luckily the BA is a good one, they are linear and smooth, not moist but not dry.

Analysis
Just a casual talk, about the sound and why I like it.

ED 29689 is so common that most of us know how it sound, The BA really has so many advantages, such as the timbre and mids. But just a single BA for mids and highs, the soundstage can’t be big and the imaging will not be as thick as expected.

Then a DD for bass, so the matching problem is the biggest problem, the better they fit, the more technical Meteor will be. So they turned to the beryllium-plated DD with a wonderful performance, we all know beryllium, actually pure-beryllium IEMs are all not tasty or moist in some way, not like Utopia. So beryllium-plated DD is the perfect.

Judging from the sound, some one may say why no more bass here. Come on, more bass means less sense of highs. So they limited the bass, from bleeding.

Luckily, because the limit of bass, the bass has a little sense of precision, with a little sense of moist. And the sense of precision and moist is the key why I like Meteor.

4. More
I don’t have any problem wearing most of the IEMs, so I am very comfortable when I wear Meteor. One thing I have to say is the driver flex. Meteor does not have driver flex. Starsea has such problems. TRI is really solving the problem.

The texture of Meteor is also very good. The workmanship is excellent, the cover is decorated with silver foil, and the starlight is decorated with gold foil. Moreover, the appearance and volume of Meteor are the best in the star series in my eyes.

However, Meteor also has disadvantages, that is, the texture of cable is not as good as starsea, maybe because the cost of cable. In theory, at the same cost, you can have a better-looking cable. This cable may be for sound, because with the original line, the Meteor is already good enough.

5. Conclusion
At last, Let’s talk about TRI. In fact, after Meteor came out, my favorite TRI product is Meteor. I think this sound is very healthy. This is why I review it. If I don’t Like, I don’t have to review it. Among all the previous products of TRI, my favorite is i4. Although I have starlight, this is the truth. What I like is the sound, not the price.

As for whether Meteor is worth buying or not, I am actually very conservative. From an objective point of view, it is very good in many ways.

In another word, TRI wants to release a good IEMs with a reasonable price and good sales, They have to be as excellent as they used to be, or more excellent than they used to be.

How does it compare with the starsea? And do these also have the occlusion effect issues the starseas had?

A real planar
Pros: the timbre of planar
sweet highs
smooth vocals and mids
Cons: bass is not well tasted
the mids has a little blank
I have two planar IEMs here. Dethonray Tender 1 and 7hz timeless.

I will not talking about Tender1 today because I wanna release a detailed review of it. Last week I met Anson, my H1 has some problems so I borrowed dtr1 and tender1. As for timeless, perchased it to have a try. so my opinions will be more subjective.
P10917-165235.jpg

When I listened timeless at the first time, the timbre of planar is so obvious so I pay more attention to the pros of planars. Yes, as you know, the highs is so sweet and ariy. They are shinning and well-extended, I like them very much.

The timbre of planars in highs always drive me crazy. not like the highs from EST, EST provide a thinner highs and more overtone, planar will be thicker and more vivid. So I think EST fit BA better, and planar fits DD.

TRI i3 pro have thres units: a DD, a planar and a BA, they are very great and more tasted, but I said that taking away the BA may be better.

The mids is smooth and vocals is clear, when I focus on the imaging of mids, I would say they are good in many ways. But when I try to feel the hole sound, here comes a problem, the mids is a little blank, the vocals are well tasted but why the mids aren't.

The reason is that the bass is not enough, or to say, the upper bass and the bass is not enough, the sub bass is ok but not perfect. we all know the planars need more area to work well, and this unit of timeless is big enough, the area is twice bigger than tender1, but the bass,,,,,,I personally don't like too much bass, so luckly.

Why I give 4 stars to timeless after I pointed the cons, because they are really nice. since there is not too much bass and the highs is sweet, so I can listen it for more than a hour, very long time to me, usually 20 minutes is my limit.

Not too much to say, timeless is worthy to buy, at this price.

I normally do not read reviews for a product I want to review, but after resisting for a few days, I gave in and read your review. Yes, brief but to the point. More importantly, you give us a clear indication of the sound signature and the tuning of each frequency. Nice short review.

@ChrisOc Thank you.

To me, I think the review could be short or be long, but the point is to make myself understood.

Many times I don't want to say too much about the cons, I prefer guessing the reasons why there are the cons, it will be helpful.

Pro is Pro
Pros: Great texture
flagship mids
well tasted lows
Accessories
Cons: Taking away the BA may be better.
It's been a long time since I got it. I don't have enough time. I'm a bit lazy and a bit busy, but it's better than nothing to post.

1. Unboxing

P10901-184142.jpg

To be honest, the design is much better than the original i3, and the storage bag is also better. I like the TRI storage bag very much. It could contain a lot of things, is easy to open, and has a good texture. If you need to buy a storage box, then I undoubtedly recommend this storage box, which is very affordable and comfortable.

P10901-185107.jpg

All the accessories are in the picture, you can see that TRI i3 Pro has a lot of accessories. Maybe we don’t need too many ear tips but we really want them, it will be more convenient sometimes.

P10901-184419.jpg

You can see the texture of the earphone and the earphone cable. The earphone is very delicate and the earphone cable is also very soft. My description of the
sound is based on this headphone cable.

P10901-185249.jpg

2. Configuration

Unit: 1DD for bass + 1planar for mids + 1BA for treble.
Wire: 5N oxygen-free copper
(No need to say more)

3. Wearing

The biggest failure of the original i3 is the wearing problem that many people are complaining about. I have big ears so i3 is OK for me, but i3 Pro is really comfortable. The volume is reduced, it will fit the ears and be comfortable.

Here I think it is necessary to talk about the driver flex. In fact, I have seen a lot of earphones have driver flex, so do i3 pros. but only a few seconds just after wearing them the driver flex will diappear, a little adjustment will also be fine. So it will not bother you.
P10901-185822.jpg

4. Sound

Source:MEIZU Pro6 & Dethonray DTR1
Eartips:SONY Colombia
Music :FLAC(16bit/44.1khz)
i3 Pro is easy to drive, meizu pro6 has a amazing sound and is one of my main source to test and review.

Lows: 8mm DD did a good job, the same DD in oroginal i3 we all know. Lows is not too much, the texture and tune is very exquisite, It will make you feel comfortable, the existence of lows is just fine, enough power and comfortable feeling.

Mids: the mids or I should say the mids and highs, famous for the 10mm planar. It is impossible for the planar to work on the mids only, because if in the case, the high frequency cannot be like what you hear.In other words, most of the high frequencies we listen to should belong to the mids and highs, and there are no much highs that can be heard. The difference here is mainly the timbre. The timbre of the planar is too easy to distinguish from the BA. The BA try hard to make the highs to be linear and thickness but it just failed, the planar easily did it and then performance better in mids.

So let talk about the mids, the mids is really smooth and well tasted. Not cold but neutral, such a ultra mids, if you are looking for mids flagship but not too much money, i3 pro is the only choice in many ways.

Highs: The BA is very tiny in the soundstage and planar make the highs funuy and well tasted in some area. Some one said that highs is not good enough, very easy to solve it , take away the BA you may find a flagship timble, maybe.

Some people say that i3 Pro is not as good as i3, even worse than i3, but I think i3 Pro is much better than i3. Why? The timble matching. I personal don’t like i3, because I think i3 is not good in timble matching, the planar and the DD have different timble, you can easily tell the them from each other, but to be honest I don’t like that, the timble in i3 pro is well matched.

As for the sound stage, I care nothing when the soundstage is big enough, and I would say i3 is so large that I think it is not nature, yes I don’t like i3, before i3 was released I got one pair, for review. After I hear it I returned i3 and refused it. I don’t like it so it is ok for me to refuse, maybe seems a little stupid.
P10901-190758.jpg

5. Conclusion

i3 pro has many Pros to i3, maybe will not be as popular as i3, but from i3 pro we can see that tri are listening to their customers, i3 is hard to drive, too large or something else, we will find i3 pro is much better in many ways, or in another words, make more people satisfied.Hope TRI will be better.

Good views on I3 Pro.. Thanks for covering the timbre difference... I haven't heard I3 Pro.. But this already come to my mind as well.. "Taking away the BA may be better"?

KBear/Tri should be brave to reduce driver count if possible.

I always pay more attention to timble difference. I think timble couldn't be changed, and it is very easy to tell.

Dethonray H1:Improved my taste in sound
Pros: Excellent workmanship
Sound quality
Tuning
Value for money
Nice appearance
Cons: Non
I heard H1 by chance, I knew I would buy it just when I heard its sound. So I bought it myself four months ago. I plan to write some reviews on the headfi, But I think I should first tell my taste in sound. H1 will be the first review I post on headfi, a short review but full of my love for sound.

1. Unboxing

0a197109c2862e21bf944c6891fddeca.jpg

The packaging box is very simple, but the texture is good and unpretentious. I guess it must be such a box. Because Anson is such a person.

9fe7e70addba294e4879dd044ab571e0.jpg

This is all the things in the box. Although there are not many things, they basically guarantee the daily use conditions. The workmanship of the accessories is very good, of course, the workmanship of H1 is even better.

Anyone who has used H1 before will be shocked by the feel of his sandblasted metal. Not only that, when you hold it in your hand, you will find it so light. Any portable DAP I have seen before is heavy and not portable enough. Considering the needs of portability, this weight is also very friendly.

2. Appearance & Function

fef50648746bd9a75ce3eecb3ebb3435.jpg

There are two switches on the side, Po/Lo switch, high/low gain switch, without any learning costs.

ccef90f27297337b5c5a9695b4f3a38d.jpg

At the bottom there are two type-C ports, the charging port and the data transmission port. And the black one in the middle is a power indicator.

fd3c96932aff726ff004a6779f9813a1.jpg

On the top are 4.4 balanced female port, 3.5 single-ended port integrate line out /Optical, indicator light, a switch and knob. The key point here is that the feeling of the switch is very tight, which is very advanced。

3. Sound
First of all, the overall sound is very balanced and majestic, achieving first-class power and control in the portable DAP, and super first-class tuning.

Lows
The amount of lows is sufficient, no more and no less. If you don't like a lot of lows, it will definitely not make you think that there are too much lows. If you want more lows, you will feel the lows is moving and full. This is not easy to do. If the lows is a little bit more, even if there is only a little, the whole sound will not be pure enough, but if the lows is less, it will lose a lot of tuning and atmosphere. The power and taste of the lows are excellent, without too much dyeing, and not very straightforward expression.

Mids and vocals:
A good mids and vocals are the basic tuning requirement of most Chinese brands. I think Dethonray is no exception. The mids of H1 is great enough. The mids and vocals of many iems were shadowed , but will be much clear and pure on H1. The density is high, the thickness is very restrained, not too much but enough to convey emotions and guarantee the tuning. I bought H1 just because of this mids. I have been using it for four months and I like it more and more.

Treble:
The treble is slightly brighter but not harshing, and has a good sense of linear and air. The important thing is that the density of the treble and the mids are well connected and smooth.

The soundstage is very large and. It is not a very aggressive sound, nor a sound with a lot of dyeing. The taste of H1 elegant, different from dtr1, because DAP may be matched with other brands of products, so The sound is as neutral as possible. This is enough to make more people pay for it.
c5f2ce0f7e02da26fccf0fa2d171ee60.jpg

My kbear believe and kbear pure. A good set and a good cable. Performance well with H1.

4. Focal point
The point of this sound may be difficult to understand, because it achieves both powerful and control, as well as superb taste.

Let me give some examples to illustrate. All the players I have heard, there are only a handful of devices that can take all of aspects into account. L&P P6 Pro is one of them, P6p is very good in tuning but I feel that the density is not enough. Maybe it is just the voice that L&P wants to convey.

Many flagship devices only achieve the first two, such as the Hiby R8 and Fiio M15. The R8 and M15 are excellent in some way but the taste is not good. I take them as examples because I don't want to mention some devices that are not worth mentioning at all.

If you have used some products like I said, lack of power or no taste, just make a recall.

5. Conclusion

Dethonray is well praised because flagship sound quality. H1 is a great DAP but I am not good at review too much at some stuffs. I think what I should do is to convey my view to it. I will learn to make myself understood in the future while someone reading my reviews.

Finally, hope everyone can have their favorite equipment.

I use the Dethonray as a line out to my Aroma TB100 and Cayin n9 and with both it's sounds fantastic, better than my Ibasso DX 240 used in the same fashion.
