Fresh From The Oven: iBasso P5 "Falcon"
Darn! One more thing to test then... I'll try bypassed ground slots and see if I hear another improvement. Initially I don't hear much change that can't be just placebo but I'll keep it in there and let's see over time... Certainly isn't a bad setup either. It would be fun to try the...- Quoth

Fresh From The Oven: iBasso P5 "Falcon"
I did a slight journey during the last ten months amp-rolling my P5 in search of the "perfect" sound. I don't have a massive bunch of other equipment lying around to test against so this is basically my impressions using my ears, music and gear and not a real proper review but with a bit of luck...- Quoth

Any good CD transport with small footprint?
I've never heard tho combo before but Audio-Note makes ½-width transports. Teac, Musical Fidelity & Cyrus also makes ½-width CD-players, but I doubt they make any separate transports of that size. Maybe a used one for transport duty? /Q- Quoth

DAC w/ Simaudio Eclipse?
The DAC in the eclipse is not "pretty good", it's IMHO close to the "best there is". If you want to improve on it you would have to go the DCS/Burmeister/ML/Wadia/Weiss route. However it might just be diffferent, and not better. All Moon products has a great sense of timing and a fun and...- Quoth

Your Reference CD's (Classical)
I don't have 500 classical CDs yet (one can dream...), but a least a few (a long with some jazz and metal) normally goes with me to demos: *Holst, the Planets (Zubin Meta, LA philhamonic Orchestra) *Bach cello suits 1-6, Paolo Beschi (A stunning Winter & Winter recording. One of my favourite... -
Different Philips HPs
The HP1000 is a much more "complete" phone. Where as the HP890 has its plus points, it has its downsides (the "loudness bass" for instance). The HP1000 has better overall resolution, better trebles and mid, and perhaps more importantly a much more "Hi-Fi bass". Easy to drive, and sounds good...- Quoth

Best source for hard rock/metal.
Naim is great, and their older gear as well, but before you buy some of their older stuff (olive in color, the design has a small tough of military surplus ) listen to it. There are fair differences between the old and the new regarding sonics. The new gear (black, lit Naim logo in the center)...- Quoth

Best source for hard rock/metal.
You might want to check out Moon CD players as well (Audio Visions in S F seems to carry them). Their sonic signature is similar to Naim. Simply very good players with great sense of timing, and at least the Nova should be within your budget. I auditioned both Naim and Moon and they sounded very...- Quoth

RKV, Eartube questions...
The RKV/K1000 combination is excellent, and with a source to match you can easily reach headphone earvana A few conderation though: * The RKV has a few flaws, especially a high noise floor and a very tubey (warm, lush sound). It's sonic signature makes it excellent to drive the K1000...- Quoth

Headphone amp suited for HD580/600?
I'm not sure if it's till active, but check out the Porta Corda II group buy if you live in The US or Europe. I think it was $145 shipped or something... http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95368 /Q- Quoth

Is there any good headphone amp being good as a pre-amp?
Since I actually own a pair of B2031 fed by my headphone rig, I thought I might share my thoughts... They are connected with a set of 10m $30 interconnects from the Prehead, and the system works great considering its price. The monitors image without problem, and the quality of the source...- Quoth

Anyone here LIKE Sony MDR-71EX??
Normally I don't use canalphones/earbuds, but sometimes they are a lot easier to use then full size headphones, so I bought a pair of EX71 to replace the stock earbuds of my iHP-140. The bass is bloated, and the highs are sometimes not the best, but I still like and use them. I'm sure most...- Quoth

Need opinions about midrange home headphone rig
Personally, since I live in europe, I would get a Corda HA-2 amp, and a pair of HD650 from Meier audio (might as well get a Oehlbach Senn cable as well since their dirt cheap and a sonic improvement). This should leave at least $1K to spend on a good source and some interconnects. Grab your...- Quoth

Musical Fidelity A308 vs NuVista 3D
Yes, the players are basically the same, but with different output stages. If I'm not mistaken the A308 series is a "converison" of the nuvista series to pure solid state after MF ran out of nuvistors... I have heard them side by side only breifly, and quite a while ago, so I can't give you a...- Quoth

IHp-140 amp recommendations
I own a IHP-140 and a set of HD25-1, and you seriously don't need an amp to drive them. One of the main benefits of the HD25-1 outside of their sonics/isolation is the fact that they are easy to drive. Amping the combo does make it slightly better, but I rarely ever do it since the the sonic...- Quoth

Suggestions?: 1. HD580 or HD600? + 2. SR60 or SR125? (Budget: Equal to HD600)
If you can get your hands on a pair to listen too, I would suggest seriously checking out the Phillips HP890, and their slightly more expensive cousins HP1000. A pair of HD600 are better if properly driven, but IMHO the difference in price more then makes up for the sonic differences if money...- Quoth

Which tube amp for AKG K1000, available in Europe?
The RKV mk II might still be your safest bet, but if it's too expensive, why not go for something like a second hand low power SE tube amp. Just make sure the tubes it uses are current production (NOS tubes are very expensive...). With a good source and amp the K1000 are probably unbeatable for...- Quoth
