Shure E3C and Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro owners please respond

Having owned both, and now only owning the Super.fi 5 pro, I say open the UE and enjoy. At some later date, if you find it necessary, get an amp and apply it to the better set of phones (UE).

    Zen Mico HD Switch?

These guys show an availability date of Jan. 12, 2005... http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpeci...?ItemID=343612 But the price is a deal breaker for me. Too bad. I was all set to do surgery on my Zen Micro.

    Too far in...(Shure E3)

I just found an itty bitty set of tweezers ( like the ones in a swiss army knife ), and I keep those in my case with my phones. If a tip comes off, no problem. 30 seconds later I have it extracted and back on the earphone.

    Etymotic Problems

I'm assuming you got the ER6I, if not disregard my post. The greatest thing I ever did to improve the comfort of my ER6I was to take my grey soft flex sleeves from my Shures, and give them a test spin on the Etys. Turs out, they fit very well, AND, very comfortably. Give it a try, you won't...

Sound problem with my new Super.fi 5 Pro

I had a problem with one side going soft on my Super.fi Pros and I eventually tracked the problem down. I noticed if I squeezed the earpiece that kept getting faint, it would come back full force. Closer inspection of the unit revealed that the side that was fading in and out had somehow had...

Most comfortable headphones under $200? Bose Triport Quiet Comfort or what?

I find the Beyerdynamic DT770/80 to be _very_ comfy. Big fat velour pads and all the ultra mega bass you can stand.

    Are Ety's any good?

The difference between the ER4 and E5 is very pronounced IMHO. There are certainly those who would disagree with me on that, but hey, its my opinion and I'm stickin' to it. ER4 - Cold, analytical, astounding highs, poor bass ( especially for rap or rock ). ER5 - Warm, musical, good highs...

    help with e4c

Yeah, I gotta say I think these guys are right. I was using my E4 straight out of my IPod 60g. I got to where I really didn't like using them out of the IPod, as my E5 sounded so much better. Then... I bought a Zen Micro. Wow! The micro has a real (sorta) EQ on it. After Eq'ing the micro for the...

    Are Ety's any good?

I really don't think you will be happy with the Etys for the type of music you are talking about. I have owned both the ER4p, and the E5. In answer to your other question, there is a HUGE difference in bass output with the E5. I can't speak to the UM2 as I have never heard them. For the genre of...

    My Ety\s crapped out!

Well, if you sweat like I do, at the mere thought of manual labor, my first and last guess would be that you got some moisture inside the tube part that sticks in your ear. I have read about these canalphones getting a little moisture in there, and then playing at a reduced volume until they dry...

    Cheap Earbuds and Good Sound?

Well, they aren't earbuds exactly, but I picked up a set of Koss KSC75 about a week and so far, I am impressed. They sound just like the PortaPro, but in a clip on form factor. Very comfy for clip ons too. I honestly forget that I am wearing them, and that has NEVER happed to me before with a...

Koss PortaPro , what do you experts say?

Was my first "Higher level" headphone, thanks Head-Fi. I now own Shure E2, E3, E4, E5, Super.fi Pro, Sennhieser PX200, MX550, Etymotic ER4P, ER6i, Sony EX71s, and Darth Beyer Dt770/80 Pro. So yeah, PortaPro is great, but enter at your own peril Or rather your wallet's perial Anyways, welcome...

    Soundstage vs. Technical Accuracy

Just had a strange thought that occurred to me, reading through the posts, so just indulge this thread as the fancy of an oft curious old man So I was thinking to my self, "Self, what is really more important to your enjoyment of the music? Do you like soundstage best, or good tonal balance...

    The Best Soundstage Canalphone ?

Yeah, the Super.fi Pro do have -very- nice sound stage for a canal phone. Probably one of the strongest attributes of the phone really.

Don't like the ER6i fit? Get the Shure Soft-Flex tips!

Actually, you can avoid pulling the filter loose by rotating the ear tip clockwise whilst removing it from the ER6i. Actually, come to think of it, the soft grey flex sleeves have never come off in my ear with the Etys, but has a bad habit of doing this with my E4 for some reason.

    super.fi 5EB - any comments?

Yeah, I tend to agree. For pure portable use, I really like the 5 pro. Especially out of the IPod. Adds some much needed bass. Now bear in mind though, that the bass on the E4 is no slouch. Just depends on what you want. E4 is technically a better phone I think, but the Super.fi Pro is very...

Don't like the ER6i fit? Get the Shure Soft-Flex tips!

Actually, this is exactly what I did with my ER6i, and it does make them quiet a bit more comfortable. As long as the tips don't come off in your ears, that is

    Etymotic ER-6

If you want to be able to pop these in and out, I would say go with the Super.fi Pro. They use a Sony style silicon flange that seals to the outside of your ear canal, not the inside. This keeps them from rubbing your ear canals raw with frequent removal / insertion. The other good point is that...

Safest (or "safest") headphone for cycling?

Koss PortaPro works pretty well for biking. I kinda like the headband, as it keeps things in place, and the open design lets me hear -some- of what is going on around me.

NEW DECISION, IEM NOT THE WAY TO GO

I have had some Koss PortaPros for a couple of years now, and I continue to be quiet astounded by the level of sound they deliver for the price. I also hear the Koss KCS75 deliver very nice sound, though I can't comment directly on them, as I have never heard them.

IEMs under 200 bucks. What to get???

Out of E2, E3, E4, E5, ER4P, ER6I, and Super.fi Pro, if I had to pick ONLY ONE IEM for all around use, it would definitely be the E4. Second in line, I would pick the Super.fi Pro, and third, the E5. Please understand that I DO consider the E5 to be a technically superior headphone to both the...

    e4 vs. er6i

If I had to choose between the ER6i, the E4, or the ER4-P ( I own them all ), I would reach for the E4 9 times out of 10. I am quiet sure that some here will totally disagree with me, but I think the E4 does everything the ER-4p does, but with more bass. As far as the er6i vs the E4, there...

    super.fi 5EB - any comments?

The only comment that I can make, having not heard the EB, but owning the Pro, is that you would have to be a major bass head in order to want more bass than the Pro is capable of providing. If this is you, by all means buy them and give us all a review. I beleive Jasper wrote a review that...

    e4 or super.fi 5 pro

I dunno. I own the E4c, E5c, E3, E2, ER-4P, ER-6i, and Super.fi Pros. While I really dig the sound of the E4c when I am just sitting around (read: not moving), I kinda feel like the Super.fi Pro has gotten a bit of a bum rap here at Head-Fi. The Super.fi Pro, to my ears at least, does most...

    IEM choice

For the type of music you have listed, I would say definitely go with either the Shure E4(c) or the UE Super.fi 5 Pro. I like them both for different stuff. The Super.fi Pro will really thump with some of the stuff you like to listen to. If you like a very balanced presentation, then go e4. I...
