I got to try a pair of RE0 recently, but found them absolutely horrible. The bass is lacking, and there seems to be a big curve in the highs giving a very unnatural and non-neutral sound. What's the deal? Why are they so highly praised around here?

I know that IEMs isolate sound, making it possible to listen to music at a lower volume. However, great isolation also means that it creates an airtight seal, which can create pretty loud sounds and shifts in air pressure. Things that can cause these are coughing, sneezing, crunching something...

Try this. It gives me a better seal, and of course, better noise isolation. It's a used T500 foamie with the plastic part removed, and cut to the right size to fit inside the silicone tip. I also tried this with the olives, which isolate better, but are too hard and rather uncomfortable.

Not that I'm going to go custom anytime soon, but I'm still wondering how the sound isolation of custom earphones compares those of universal fit IEMs. On the UE site, it says both customs and the TF10s are -26 dB. I own a pair of TF10s, and personally I don't find the isolation that good...
