    Oppo 105 and Maranz SA8001

After much playing around, I finally found the issue.  When putting headphone in and out of the jack of 105 while CD is still being played, the player actually delays a bit.  SA8001 does not delay at all.   Not sure if this is a serious design issue since probably no one listens to CD with...

    Oppo 105 and Maranz SA8001

Each player has the screen to show the time and I stopped each player at the beginning of a track by pause.  For SA8001 and digital timer, I had to use buttons on the device.  For 105, it was the remote.  I can start all three at the same time.   Assuming even there could be a slight delay...

    Oppo 105 and Maranz SA8001

Having the SA8001 for two years, I bought 105 the other day and really want to find out the differences of these two all-in-one CD players in speaker and headphone sound, since both have the jack at front.   While I put two identical CDs (both copes from the original) in the players and...

Creative Labs Aurvana 3 Dual Driver IEM Giveaways & Discounts - A new favorite of ours!

I almost forgot the 60GB Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra I brought just five years ago.   I took it to a Bose store one time and the store employees thought I was carrying a Walkman.

Same Old Schiit? Balanced Research and Valhalla Amp Giveaway

Not very technical here but would just add my comments.   Do you have balanced headphones? If so, which ones? I have AKG K1000 and Stax SR303 -- are they considered balanced?   If not, are you looking at balanced headphones or a balanced amp in the future?  Just brought...

    Audiophile grade CD in mono

Just tried Audacity but the converted mono file is just terrible,  There could be further editing to do, but I still prefer to find a ready made CD.   Has anyone tried this to compare different speaker cables from right to left at the same time?

    Audiophile grade CD in mono

Can anyone recommend a good sounding CD, not in stereo, but in mono?   The reason for this is to test different cable setup in my speaker system, with single or bi-wire.  I assume I can have listen to two speakers at the same time, to judge what is the best setup.  Unfortunately my current...

Need help regarding AKG K1000 pads

I have been thinking a little more on this.   According to K1000 document, the thinner pad (smaller one) is on the front (close to the hinge) while the thicker pad is on the back (the one that slide).  why is that?  I can not figure how this design is related to the shape of our head, or...

    Oppo 83 or 83SE?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that is for CD and SACD only and 2 channels, just like what SA8001 can do..   Otherwise the comparison won't be necessary.

    Oppo 83 or 83SE?

I recently bought a Marantz SA8001 from a local head-fier and found that 8001 is fantastic.   Now I am looking to purchase my first blu-ray player and Oppo 83 looks pretty promising.   The truble is I am not sure if I should get the SE version which has improved audio playback, according...

Need help regarding AKG K1000 pads

I hope this is the correct forum where I can reach to K1000 owners, current or former.   Basically what I need is the replcement pads, or sometimes refered as "temple" pad here by some Head-Fiers.   There are two pads (right-front and left-rear) come off the housing.   The base of...

    The DT990/600 impressed me

Thanks, Skylab. I guess the ~$70 higher cost for DT880 at B&H will just justify me from sharing the music too loud in the room, or less outside sound coming in. Is there any other "significant" difference that has not been mentioned in this thread between the 880 and 990?

    The DT990/600 impressed me

I have DT880-250 and the only problem I have is sibilant. Can anyone tell me which 600 (DT800 and 900) may be less sibilant?

    Houston meet impressions 10/17/2009

Great meet! I actually just realized how much I have missed out, after spending considerable time to compare the Stax 202, 303 and 007 on various amp. I guess that is my inexperience at my first meet. Funny thing we found out was the 303 has more bass than the other two, from my SRM-323II...

BOSE why is it not here?

If I remember correctly, Bose had very good speakers thirty years ago. Their apporach to audio equipements nowaday is different. I suppose the sound system for movie/TV veiwing is still good, when your main goal is not music. But you could be paying a lot.

BOSE why is it not here?

One way to look at this: If you watch CSI-Miami, you notice the coloration added for effect. That can be said of the sound quality of Bose. A lot of people here do not like that.

    Houston Head-Fi Meet #2 on October 17

I have a question for Ken. Since I did not attend the meet last year, I am not sure if we need to bring in our own table, chair, extention chord.......and fire extinguisher (based on the photos of last meet)?

I have the stock 4-pin male XLR and the extension which connects to the amp's speaker terminal. I also have a TRS/XLR adapter to use on a regular TRS socket.

When I bought my Stax 303 from Joel early this year, I learned there was not a K1000 in your last meet. I will bring mine this time but I need to find out if someone may have an adequate amp available. Ken, how do we pay that fee to you in advance?

Top 5 songs to play at your funeral.

Good topic. Having been to three funerals already this year, I do wonder what would be the acceptable music for my own. The issue is, would they allow the music I pick at that place whereever that is? For fun -- Na Na He He Goodbye For the believers -- Someday We Will Be Together For the...

Human voice created by instruments per Minimalist Composer

I suspect Steve Reich is the one but somehow I can not find that interview or other information from Google to confirm that. He does have music in which female voice is used along with various percussion instruments. But I would be more interested in the one without the actual human performer...
