Mixed reviews apparently but I like the BA8: speed, detail, soundstage, timbre. Should I look out for a pair of BA15s/BA16s or will I be disappointed? How are they different? Full disclosure: I dropped one unit and can't be sure the performance hasn't been affected.

Audio paranoia: dropped one (BA) IEM and feel like there's a barely perceptible drop in volume on that side, just can't confirm it. Not the first time it's happened. Anyone else experienced this? Can't enjoy listening with that niggling doubt :slight_frown:

Good market in Japan for cable down IEMs. My best find so far has maybe been the Ashidavox HF-EA1: single large DD with, apart from weighty and well extended bass, nice detail, nice airy treble, natural timbre, good seperation and space. There's an upgraded version too, which I haven't tried yet.

At the risk of being called out for not having read the thread, what's the most significant recent advance in BA tech to look for in your opinion, though?

Yeah... what I'm really looking for is detail/price bargains, even at the expense of other characteristics, inc. older models. Got the BA8s for about 50 used, an unexpected find which I may not replicate for a while.

Don't feel able to criticise the BA8s much because they're objectively technically better than anything I've heard. I will say I don't find them harsh though,and the bass beats any DDs or hybrids I've heard for body and accuracy. You've heard higher end sets than I have though: better...

Just got a pair of TRN BA8s, relistening to a techno playlist in new definition. Have a few IEMs, these are technically better than any of them.

Surprising bass body and extension for a single BA. [edit] Tried another tip (soft silicone, large aperture) and am (more) sold on these. Soundspace is much improved.

Using the same tweeter as the Crazy Racoon headphones apparently. Not aware of anyony on here checking those out.

Kotteri Mark II

Had an OG iBasso DC05 and really enjoyed it, if you like the ESS sound. The OG DC04 and 03 had the same form factor and also have a good following. DDhifi do some nice minimal dongles too, but IDK how the sound compares.

It was sort of an unqualified prediction of course. The stronger points I was making were that aside from audio hardware, a DAP is just a bad phone, and that the ground between the portable DAC/amp you mention and dongles is underpopulated. I mean I would like to try something like the Quloos...

IMO there's room in the market for more super-dongle/sub-DAC/amps. Feel like DAPs' days may be numbered, because as (Android or other) devices they're limited and redundant for anyone with a smartphone. It's just that there aren't many desktop level dongles to choose from yet.

Only thing about these is the eartip sits so far back on the nozzle that you cant use narrow-bore ones to attenuate the treble.

Probably keener to hear the Sora 2 than any of the e-earphone limited editions at this point. Hard to determine all the tunings from the info online but I reckon these drivers could sound good in an all-steel shell. Do love the purity of timbre of the VST, it sounds uncannily real.

Did you order any other Japanese stuff?

Anyone want to compare the sound to a dual ESS desktop ("PRO") DAC?

Been using moulded silicone short cables and having some issues with disconnection OTG. Something like this with a fabric outer will probably be better.

Software can be fixed, the hardware alone is unmissable value IMO
