LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

Seems to be a tricky ask; spacious and great imaging (width/depth and placement within) but also fast and punchy with detail dialled up to eleven..

LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

So initial reviews would seem to push this one more in the direction of Denefrips; warm, spacious, smooth. Doesn't really sound like a good DAC for someone after a more alive and exciting sound signature although the spacial aspect does sound appealing.

LAiV Harmony R2R DAC Impression and Reviews

Ugh, Steve Huff has a new reference anytime a new piece enters his listening room. On a side note has anyone noticed the two glass windows directly at the first reflection points next to his speakers? Surprised he can make anything out in the ensuing audio soup...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

Interesting... I have quite a few gold CDs and they've never been an issue on the CDPs I've owned (Rega, Cyrus, NAD, Pioneer).

Nope, there is no consensus. To find out which one you like you'll have to buy both and return the one you don't like as much.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

What I want, and I think Shanling is close to having with the ET-3 is; A high quality CD transport with the quality top loader mechanism. No built in DAC. Comprehensive outputs including AES/EBU, Coax, USB, Optical and BNC. Simple but elegant display that shows basic CD playing info' required...

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

But not a simple CD Transport. Sometimes a 'jack of all trades' is a master of none.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

I wish they'd make an "ET-2"; the CD transport minus the streaming functionality. Put a nice simple display on it rather than the currently hideous one (as discussed on this thread) and job done.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Interesting. I wonder if the FPGA is running the filter ala chord dacs. With Mikes known dislike of D/S it will be interesting to see/hear his take.

Shanling ET3 - Dedicated Digital CD Transport, With USB Drive and Wi-Fi Support

It doesn't appear in the manual so I'm guessing not, but is it possible to change the display to only show a clear concise CD track/time/play|pause display? Something like this? If not can we request it?

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Ok so now I'm really confused lol... Nick76 said: I believe both the A2/OG and the LIM will get you where you want to be. A1 was always known to be the brighter/"colder" of the two AD chip yggys. ...two different people, two different takes.

So just to clarify; the Yggy+ GS2 has a cooler overall tonal signature with a brighter treble than other variants? This is interesting as I would prefer that in my system.

Thankyou @jlemaster1957 for your thoughts. Yes I'm probably more experienced in the vinyl world than digital. I've owned four 'reasonable' DACs (Arcam irDAC, Gieseler Kompakt, Denefrips Ares II, Burson Conductor 3XR) and I've been thinking/planning on getting an 'end of the line' DAC for some...

And as veterans with years of experience I'd assume I/we would trust their judgement in much the same way we would trust the ears of a mastering engineer. In other words, a single Yggradsil2, with the very best tech Schiit can engineer, that they believe is the best sounding. Anyway, it's a...

Firstly, thanks everyone for the replies and graphs in response to my post on the complexity of buying a Yggdrasil. I think the graphs illustrate how complex it is to try and pinpoint "The right flavour for me". For example; the MILF scores higher 'plankton (detail)?' than the other flavours...

    Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Anyone else confused by the Yggdrasil lineup? I understand the idea of the "thunderdome" but from a consumers POV, particularly one not in America, it makes buying one a risky/confusing venture. Y+ LIM: Cheaper version. softer sound? Y+ OG: Expensive version. original sound (whatever that...
