A sad day for portable audio
All right guys. I was looking for suggestions for a few DAPS that might interest me.. but most replies here have been to continue with the iPods. I was already leaning towards trying to get another 5.5g, or a Classic, and it seems that'll be the path I'm taking. Thanks for the condolences...- Mizou

A sad day for portable audio
So this Saturday I had my car broken into, and my 5.5g iPod stolen, as well as my phat PSP (phat being the term referring to the older, non-slim models). I'm a Junior at the local university.. I have a Saturday human sexuality class whose professor also teaches at a nearby Catholic all-guys...- Mizou

Help me upgrade my rig
Okay, so I have two agreements that my amp is the weak link. Any specific suggestions to keep a look out for? I'm not very knowledgeable about amps (especially non-portable ones), so I'm not sure what I should be looking for. Any specific brands and models that would have a good synergy with my...- Mizou

Help me upgrade my rig
Forgive my ignorance.. But I was under the impression that a DAC was only needed if you were running off of an Optical Out or something similar? How would I incorporate something like the E-MU into my rig? CDP-> Lineout-> E-MU-> Cans?- Mizou

Help me upgrade my rig
All right.. Time for my wallet to be sorry very, very soon. I received a pair of DT770-80s for Christmas (thanks, Santa!), and have been enjoying/burning them in since. The sound out of my rig is great, but I'm left wondering if there's more, or if something's holding me back. Unfortunately...- Mizou

Need headphone for a friend
Okay, thee of much more can knowledge than I. I need some help. I want to get a pair of cans for a friend's birthday/late Christmas, but I'm kind of stuck on what exactly. I let him try my Grado SR225s once, and while he was impressed at "how clear" it sounded, and how well it separated...- Mizou

headphone sightings?
While on a recent trip/walk over from my University to the neighboring community college with a class, I noticed someone (perhaps a professor or older student) in the hallway talking on his cellphone. To my surprise though, was that he had a pair of headphones around his neck.. Bose QC3s >_<...- Mizou

Does CD ripping s/w affect SQ?
I had the same problem when ripping with iTunes, especially to Lossless files. EAC remedied much of it, but I also have problems converting the WAVs to ALAC. Guess my computer's not powerful enough to be doing batch conversions, and surfing the web.- Mizou

Pink noise works wonders for burning-in!
When I was burning in my Grados, I tried most of the sites listed here, but just found some to be lacking, hard to navigate, or in the case of the last one posted, the DL didn't work. I ended up going with the link in my sig, since you can use test tones, sweeps, and either pink or white noise...- Mizou

Anyone have Pink Noise?
When I was looking for Pink/White noise to burn in my phones, I found this link (which is also in my sig) to be the most useful: http://burninwave.com/generator_dl.htm Has Pink and White Noise, as well as sweeps and tones. You can set it to go continuously, or play for X minutes, then rest...- Mizou

headphone sightings?
Actually saw one worth noticing tonight! I'm a server at a restaurant, and, unfortunately, I all too often see teenagers and younger sitting at a table/booth with their iPod on, iBuds in their ears. It's kinda depressing to think about taking your kids out to a nice dinner, and having them...- Mizou

Suffering from my low impadence
If it's a hissing ssss sound as you describe, and only readily apparent in silent parts, that is indeed bad recording/producing. I'm not sure what CD/band you're listening to, but it's most likely a high-gain amp cranked up (for distorted guitars), and a lack of a noise suppressor. Anytime you...- Mizou

Post a pic of your headphones (280)
I had an old pair of Koss headphones (nice medium-big cans, circumaural) that were my absolute favorite in the world. But eventually, after like 3-4 years, they started breaking down. The leather-ette stuff on the earcups started shredding and flaking.. the plastic holders (for lack of a better...- Mizou

Hiss added during iPod file transfer?
Okay.. tried a few things. I re-ripped a bunch of my CDs using EAC, imported them into iTunes, then converted to ALAC. Stuff sounds good in iTunes and elsewhere.. but same problem when transferring to my iPod. I tried my cable into different USB ports, and even with my powered USB hub (I had...- Mizou

Sort of a bump, because I am also interested in the answer to this question. Also: How would one determine what opamp is in it? What if you just ordered it stock? I'm curious about this.- Mizou

Hiss added during iPod file transfer?
Kind of a bump, just seeing if anyone else has any ideas. It's really weird.. Like a split second of static occurring during songs at certain points.. But rewinding and replaying that section of the song, it's still there. It's introduced during the file-transfer to the iPod. Strange stuff.- Mizou

Hiss added during iPod file transfer?
It's definitely something with the transfer or the iPod.. But most likely the transfer. I've tested the problem songs both in the car (hooked up to the stereo with one of those AUX-in things), with various headphones, and hooked up to my DVD player/surround sound. The songs all hiss in the...- Mizou
