As far as I found out it is not possible to read out the current version installed prior to overwriting it. I might be wrong and there's a tweak available to read from EEPROM.

No. It should last for quite a while. However, heat dissipation is always an indicator of low efficiency and poorly designed board layout. Even worse when gear dedicated for mobile usage is affected. But you can't have it all at a low price point.

I don't think that was a smart purchase you made. In my opinion these iBasso dongles sound worse than dongles costing one third the price. I only know the DC03 and DC04, both performed just - abysmal - subjectively spoken and after hours of subjective testing. Please report once received.

Unavailable. As these are asymmetrically and very distinctly shaped they should be hard to counterfeit. And it would cause significant development cost to set up a production line to properly mold, fill and glue them.
