    Audeze Penrose X and Penrose

For the record, i could never call using the Penrose with my Galaxy S9 (sound would "crackle" after a few seconds), upgrading my phone to a Pixel fixed it; i can finally enjoy calling with my Penrose !

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Sure: i canceled my maxwell order and am sticking with the Penrose which has a more normal behavior. That saved me from wasting 300 bucks, i am actually grateful !

It's a double click plus wheel up every time you mute/unmute.

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Agreed, so far I've decided i'll skip that headset and stick with my penrose because of these sidetone downsides (mostly the fact that muting the mic has no effect on sidetone, but the reported interferences are a no-go too). Also, while I do not understand how the thing the dongle is connected...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

That would probably induce some latency that you can't have In a sidetone (i remember having this on the turtle beach, it was very distracting and made it unusable to me).

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Thanks. Just to confirm, on a PC the "BT call > dongle > BT audio" is not achievable (hence requiring to put the phone on silent to avoid sound notifications) ?

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

By Playstation vs PC, is that related to the switch on the dongle ? E.g. if i wanted the "BT call > Dongle > other BT audio" behaviour on a computer (e.g. Linux), can i achieve it with the dongle switch on "Playstation" mode ?

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

I'd say the problem was that the protocol was a custom one, whereas Bluetooth is so widespread that it had to be handling these much better (or nobody would use it). The only way i guess would be to use aptX Lossless, but that's going to be for the next model maybe...

Then the boom mic may be acting as an antenna for some periodic signal around you, do you notice this phenomenon everywhere or just in a specific room ?

You do realize that BT uses 2,4 GHz, right ? ;) Anyway who cares, if it sounds right.... It's just us nerds who are being curious and that's it

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Pretty sure it's using LC3plus low power Bluetooth, even if this has not been confirmed officially. That provides 5ms latency. https://audioxpress.com/news/bluetooth-le-audio-and-lc3-market-overview-technology-trends-and-forecast-from-sar-insight-consulting

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

I already did. The real question is: will it get ditched within 2 years too, leaving half baked fixes hanging (like this ridiculous BT + wireless voice cue in Penrose) ? Or was the Penrose abandoned because it had too many design mistakes that they had to move on (and is the maxwell more...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

If you're expecting configurability from audeze I'm afraid you can forget about it... There are no advanced settings like that in the app, and they will not introduce any settings that cannot be done through physical buttons. Not sure why, but they keep considering that there is a one single...

Is there a place where we can be notified of firmware updates contents (without having to keep up with all messages) ?

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Can you please confirm whether the dongle is doing Bluetooth LC3plus (and/or does it also use the lossless radio protocol of the Penrose) ?

For the record, how do your other headsets sidetone behave when you mute the mic ?

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Well, isn't that's exactly what's going to happen with this "feature"? E.g. what if you forgot that you had volume to max previously and just want to slightly increase sound ? Your single click up will result in maxing volume at once. Or did I get it wrong ?

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

To lucky users that already have a unit: - what happens when you go our of range (e.g. you respond to a BT call, you walk away from the dongle) ? Does the voice cue yell at you every second until you come back in range like it did on the penrose ? - i understand that if you have dongle and BT...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Good point, I'm not sure, but based on the reviews that indicate that range dramatically improved, my guess would be that it is now Bluetooth entirely. Lossy, but 5x the range and probably no more pops/cracks in sound. I'll take that, thanks

Yes somewhere one of the audeze reps mentioned that it gets reset every time so that you don't get your ears "blasted off" accidentally. Same for game/chat mix

@matfax The user guide states the following; "The wireless dongle that comes with your Maxwell functions as an LC3+ Bluetooth adapter. This offers you all the functionality of the LC3+ codec like ultra low latency playback, very robust wireless transmission strength and hi-res audio. For...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Wired can only be better than wireless (except maybe for the Penrose which has 48khz 16 bit audio lossless -- no wonder it has such a limited range). The maxwell codec is lossy at 500 kbits/s (vs 1500 for the lossless Penrose link). However, the audio quality of two headsets cannot be reduced...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

Congrats on launching your new headphone which seems extremely exciting, if not for one issue about the sidetone feature. I am a current Penrose user, and eager to upgrade to the Maxwell, except for the following reason which IMO entirely kills the usefulness of the sidetone feature on the...

Audeze - Our Maxwell Gaming Headsets! (latest: Firmware v61 and HQ v97)

That would mean 3 clicks for muting every time ! I do this maybe 30 times a day.... Turning 30 clicks into 90... This would render the sidetone completely useless... (Or ruin the music performance)... Looking forward to your engineering team feedback on this... I really hope it can work like...
