I have the Freya S but not the MJ3. The Freya does up the voltage of both XLR and RCA outputs. It also has a 4x gain increase too. I don't have my Tungstens yet to test how it well the Freya works with weaker amps pre-amped by the Freya.

Because the only times I have issues with the xDSD is with the Switch via USB, which is the only thing I have that uses UAC1. I can use a Type C to SPDIF converter on the Switch with no issues.

Yes there is, but only on the newer SE models. They are not as hard to drive as the OG HE-6 and I blew-out a driver using stereo amps on my He-6seV2. I would just stick to a powerful headphone amp, at least 2w at 50ohm, or one with a high current.

I can also say the Soloist 3x drives the He6seV2 very well. I was using two parasound zamps v3 but they aren't as good as the Soloist. And if anyone needs a some of the new focus pads, they come on the $130 Drop He-X4. The pads are about $40, so you get a whole another headphone for a bit more...

I disagree when it comes to the HE-6. Unless the Liquid Gold X, Lyr 3, and Sa-1 are all terrible amps with bad topology, then 4w is not enough. I am not the alone in this view. There was a very noticeable improvement when I went from 4w to 7w, then finally to 14w.
