I've had a J3 for years and never quite warmed up to it ... Always had a cold sound to me, same as my wife's cowon d2.   I much prefer the output on my sony walkman a818 with any of my headphones, sure se530, yamaha eph-100, Creative EP-630   None of them sound as well on the Cowon's ...

I had the same cold sound issue with my D2 until I got rid of the factory Jet effect settings. Zero everything and tweak slightly ... you'll find that you'll be using values of '1' or '0' as opposed to the very high factory settings ... And use the eq!
