Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Some of you may like this... it's audio related but I figured it would be OK to post here...:stuck_out_tongue: This is a revised crossover for a Merlin Music Systems VSM speaker. "Revised", as in, "transformative"... not just "upgrading parts". Duelund CAST PP Capacitors Duelund CAST...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

Matthias at RME says the NT-RME-11 is the 40 watt power supply included with the ADI-2/4 Pro SE. It has an IEC connector / 3 prong mains plug. I have both the ADI-2 DAC FS and the ADI-2/4 Pro SE. The power supplies are indeed different. With the DAC FS, I did have some hum related to the RCA...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I am a professional at this and I can assist: “It only costs me the difference of what I buy it for and what I sell it for. I’m just tying up the money for a little while.” “Money I’ll never see again was spent on a cruise… this is a tangible asset.” When I’m “old” am I gonna say… “Oh man...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

Yep, I’d have to put a phono preamp in front of it. I didn’t buy the 2/4 for its phono input, and I think it will handle a high output MC. I haven’t dug into that. When I listened to vinyl, it was with a Dynavector High Output Moving Coil… always sounded great to me… so I figure it will still...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I gave the ADI-2/4 purchase a lot of thought and effort. The ADI-2 Pro FS R BE is obviously a great unit, has digital outs, and one can just put a phono preamp in front of it. I think they can be had for around $1300 used, give or take. The ADI-2/4 rarely comes available used, and I just paid...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

Earlier today I bought an ADI-2/4 Pro SE. In November I'd never heard of RME, now I own 2 ADI units. Here's the thing... it depends on whatcha got, and whatcha need... I have an open baffle MTM speaker project that will need to be paired with subs. The open baffle portion will need to cross...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Manuals are great for framing the picture for my “For Sale” ad, and adds credibility. “Oh wow… he has everything, even The Manual.” You could put a QR code in there like: “We can’t believe you bought this, but you can read all about it here: (QR Code)” Then have it link to a page that is not...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

I think this is a good point and I've removed them. There are 75ohm versions that were suggested and I can try as well. It's not a "huge issue", but it's annoying. RME has a 3 prong plug power supply for the ADI-2/4 Pro. It has a "grounded mains connector" and is specifically said to address...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

So, I have resolved the hum issue that existed when the RME ADI-2 DAC FS was "OFF", and still connected to an amp that was "ON". User KaiS on the RME forum suggested I try these. I've actually owned them for 20+ years as they came with my Joule Electra LAP-150 tube preamp. When I plugged in...

Just sat down with the Yggdarasil GS+... 10 mins in. It's freaking spectacular. There is just something different going on here... Magic... "Rightness" Top to bottom... and the bass... the bass... Holy cow, @Jason Stoddard

The car belongs to a very good friend of mine who likes to have a LOT of fun. :checkered_flag: It is an Oreca LMPC/FLM09... LeMans Prototype Challenge car. It was a spec prototype class for LeMans and IMSA. The engine is an LS3 that's been worked up. They are headed to the dyno tomorrow and...

New member looking to discuss about TEAC UD-505 DAC-AMP

Yes, and the good news is (whether it provides better clocks for the TEAC or not) the Schiit Eitr is a lot less expensive than boutique alternatives. The Eitr was focused on fixing USB, but has the additional feature of clocks. Might as well plug it in. 👍🏻

New member looking to discuss about TEAC UD-505 DAC-AMP

This is an old thread (obviously), but I'll share this as I see the commentary about using an external clock / the clocking input available for the UD-505, etc. I've also seen commentary elsewhere about the folly of even using an external clock for this and that it's not the proper "use case"...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In 2019 I met a guy at Petty's Meat Market in Longwood, FL to buy a Modi Multibit and Eitr for $275. I didn't know it at the time, but that was one of the best buys I ever made. The Modi Multibit is, dollar for dollar, the best sounding piece of equipment I've ever owned. I plug it in every...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

If Mike was referring to the Modius with ES9028, and if it was so good... why release the Modius with AKM4493 at all... knowing the other was "so good"... only to then turn around and release it with ES chip? That seems like a lot of trouble to go thru. Who knows? 🤷‍♂️

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I think he was referring to the Modius AKM4493 - but I'm curious to know for sure. I have another DAC with AKM4493 that I'm playing with.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In June of 2019, Mike talked about a "cheap DAC that sounded waaaaaaay too good"... I've asked over there, but haven't been able to get confirmation of exactly which one he was talking about. It was a Delta Sigma DAC and I suppose it reached production. I "think" I know which one he was...

What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

Thank you. I have a DAC with the AKM4493 (RME ADI-2 DAC FS) and another with the ESS ES9038Q2M (Ayre QB-9 Twenty). Both cost many multiplies of either Modius version. It would be interesting to play with one... but knowing exactly which one he was referring to would be good to know.

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

That would be interesting to try. I think I have a "customizable" switching power supply in my stack of stuff somewhere... I think it can switch it to 12v and may have proper connector end for it. Maybe I'll give that a try.

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

Thank you! I am not upset about this issue... I can deal with it... but it should "be better". I think the ADI-2 DAC FS is super cool. I just need to avoid what makes it "unhappy"... but it should be easier for it to "stay happy". I'm not doing anything crazy, and I have other equipment that...

    RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

The power supply for the ADI-2 DAC FS is lacking, IMO. In fact, before I bought it I eyeballed this power supply setup and thought... "OK... we'll see how good this is... no IEC setup". I am certainly no engineer and am ignorant to the issue... but the power supply looks like a weak spot...

The "cheap DAC" Mike was referring to here... I assume it became the Modius with AKM4493? Does anyone know for sure?

    Schiit Loki Max Impressions

I'm playing with an RME ADI-2 DAC FS... a very different piece than what is discussed here; however, "playing with some EQ" has been fun (and why I'm poking around the Loki Max). The RME has been interesting in some good (and bad) ways. I think I've come to the conclusion that I like it best...
