Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Hi, yes. "Sharp" or "Short Delay Sharp" preserves the most high frequencies. I don't use "Short Delay" filters, because the sound becomes too boomy to me. Check out my other post for EQ that also improves soundstage and details...- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
@CayinSupport @Andykong Hi, are there any known bugs in the newest firmware and is it beneficial to upgrade from 1.2 if I don't need Hiby? Thanks.- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Fair enough. With Cayin, it's easy to like everything. I understand this "Why bother if it already sounds good". It makes sense. And I'm not saying my settings are better than your's. It has much to do with personal preference. Yet I think it's quite a chance you or someone else will like it...- MajesticSquirrel

May I try to give song example(s) to change your mind about (only) using "Super Slow" and/or not using EQ :D?- MajesticSquirrel

@fourrobert13 I think you pretty much nailed the description of N3's sound. Could you try an EQ in the photo with N3, and compare the sound to Fiio X5II (without EQ)? I'm very interested in results...- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Yes. Check the chart for how different filters sound: http://fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=42106 Read below the chart for some info on how the filters work behind the scenes. Also, check this: http://reference-audio-analyzer.pro/en/report/dac/cayin-n3-sharp.php This is only "Sharp"...- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
It should be 6 dB louder. I don't know if it's common practise, but applying -6 dB gain with EQ on makes sense. For example, you can set all the frequencies to +6 dB and it still won't clip. I think that's what Cayin does and I feel like having read it in this thread. Though if...- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
Interesting EQs for chillaxing. Sounds good with I only substract dB, because 1.2 FW bugs on 24bit FLAC and maybe something else - when changing EQ from off to custom, -6dB gain isn't applied, I think, because the sound seems equally loud. So substracting dB prevents possible clipping.- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
It would be interesting to know your EQs. I have so far found 2 EQs which I like. One is The reasoning behind it explained a few posts above. Another is everything set to -1 dB, except 8k and 16k, which are left as 0 dB. It's worth a mention that I use "Slow" digital filter.- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
In search of perfect EQ. Chapter 2. Set 31, 63, 125 and 250 to -2 dB. 500, 1k, 2k and 4k to -1 dB. The reasoning behind this EQ is that I find N3 having a bit forward mids comparing to treble, and a bit forward bass comparing to mids. Example: I suggest to pay most attention to an interval from...- MajesticSquirrel

Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
To be short, yes. And to be amazing pairing, I seem to need a little more treble. It's probably not max that could be achieved, but the EQ I posted one page back seems to do a good job to treble. To achieve max, more serious EQ is needed, I think. Speaking about power, N3 gives good result with...- MajesticSquirrel

Yes, and as well as switching from DAC to USB mode. Fatal error, blue screen, then Windows collected memory dump and, don't exactly remember, either the PC turned off itself or I shut it down by pressing power button. Cayin N3 Hi-Res DAP with AKM4490 DAC, apt-X Bluetooth, and Line, USB & Coax Out for $150
I just gave some criteria to evaluate what you hear, not what happens behind the scenes. Interesting stuff, no pun intended. Honestly, I don't know how much does it take to make a software fine-tune. I just made a suggestion, it's up to Cayin what to do with it and I respect that. By the way...- MajesticSquirrel

Ok, cool. By the way, I never asked to officially change your sound signature. If it's possible to do by software, I suggest you make a neutral tuning, but keep your old tuning as default and let the user switch between default/neutral. You could even not include neutral tuning in the official...- MajesticSquirrel

What you will like the most may differ. I suggest you take at least 3 songs. One with only real instruments and/or vocals, one electronic and one mixed. Then try all the filters with each song and you should be able to choose favorite filter(s). If you couldn't decide or want some criteria, then...- MajesticSquirrel
