    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Ah, no. I'm talking about the ones offered by Drop.com which use the HD 6 series chassis. I'm not a huge fan of most of the HD 5 series either. Here's a little group shot of them along with the HD6XX.

Hifiman Sundara (HE400i upgraded, around $500)

I don't think lean bass is characteristic of planars but HiFiMAN specifically. I've tried several of them and that's just sort of their sound signature. The planars I currently own, T50RP, M570, and M1060, all have ample and very articulate bass.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Just going through my collection this morning and doing a quick comparison to the HD58X has been interesting as they're both priced very closely to each other and outstanding headphones in general. X2HR absolutely destroys the 58X in soundstage and scale. Everything simply sounds bigger...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

Just heard about the curtain mod and removing the foam did seem to decongest the headphone overall. But I don't have sheer curtains or tea bags as I've seen from comments. But I do have a crazy amount of disposable face masks from the dark times. Works great IMO for those who are looking for a...

    Hifiman HE400se

New to this thread but I've been having a blast with modifying these headphones. I'm a planar addict and couldn't help myself getting such an affordable pair. Started with a simple earpad mount but added waveguides: STL file is here if you'd like to try them out. After these prints and some...

The Mod Collective: Bring all your full sized headphone mods here.

I initially glued some speaker cloth on the grills. The damping did seem to help warm the sound a bit but it also added too much congestion, so I removed them. After using the leather pads, it helped smooth the treble a touch and bumping up the subbass so the damping was not really needed.

The Mod Collective: Bring all your full sized headphone mods here.

Very simple mod for a HE400se. Pretty good out of the box, but the treble was a bit peaky and the sub-bass was too subdued for my preference. Used 3D prints for mounting 3rd party earpads. These are the ZMF lambskin oval pads. After trying quite a few pads and damping mods this was a good and...

NEW Monolith M570 Over Ear Open Back Planar Headphone

Sorry to bump the thread again but I noticed going through some comments people also had grievances with the treble as well. In case you have some tape and a few minutes, there was an old tape trick with the Fostex T50RP that worked very well at smoothing out the treble. I was pleased to find...

NEW Monolith M570 Over Ear Open Back Planar Headphone

Took advantage of the open box sale Monoprice was having to get a pair of these. Pretty nice headphones but that upper treble kind of bugged me a bit. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4816920 I created a 3d printable waveguide / fazor for the Monoprice Monolith M570. Place it top of the...

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

Did anyone notice a difference in sound quality after bending the headband to fit your head better? The drivers being placed so high up on the baffle seemed to have messed up my initial impressions straight out of the box when I could barely fit them on my head. Seems better balanced now with a...

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

I'm assuming those FR graphs that were just posted are raw/uncompensated. In which case, they look decent overall. I'll reserve judgement till I get them on my ears.

ORA GrapheneQ - The world's first Graphene driver headphone

I'd really like to see someone independently create a frequency response graph to see how the production headphones sound. I'm disappointed watching Joshua's review. But if they're as bad as he says they are, I'll probably have to work on modifying them. I think all it might need is some damping...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

First of all thanks @OldDude04 for letting us know about the headband. Installed it with no drilling or anything whatsoever. The hardest thing was removing the e-clips. When you take the old headband off you'll have two e-clips for each bolt. When installing the hifiman headband, the yokes...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Hey everyone, just wanted to throw an update with some stuff I've played with. Unfortunately no 3d printing stuff since I've been really lazy about fixing up my printer. I'd just like to show my current setup. I know the headphone looks pretty gross but it still sound great and I'll clean it up...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Personally I felt that the felt fuzzor mod is better on the outside (grill side). Since none of the sound from the back should be hitting your ears, wave guides won't really have much results from my experience. What the fuzzor mod is good at is to reduce acoustic reflections. I'd get a grill...

    CanJam SoCal 2019 (June 22-23, 2019)

Great lineup of top tier brands. I'd complain about driving to the OC if it weren't for these people flying across the freaking ocean.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

From my testing, I've felt that the fazors were better served on the ear side rather than the outside as the wave guide would have more effect directly towards the ear rather than radiating out. The fuzzors were more useful to me on the outside to further reduce resonance. While the fuzzors may...

    Monolith M565 mods

When i mean aggressive, I think the drivers are just way too close to the ears with the stock pads making the sound too "in your face" making the sound grainy, harsh and shouty. But I find the HD6XX shouty while others think they're a gift from God, so it could just be personal preference. Right...

    Monolith M565 mods

Got mine as well from that price mistake from last week. Removing the foam does help immensely as you've stated. Clarity and detail is far better without them. But I don't think I could handle how aggressive they are with the stock pads. Got Brainwavz Angled Hybrids on them for now and the...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

If they carry the same warranty as new, it should be ok. M1060 is a divisive headphone in the community: some love it, some hate it, and some like it enough to mod them to be better. For $200, you'll have a hard time finding a headphone that has the same kind of frequency extension that they...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Just received some ZMF oval lambskin for my mk3s but decided to play with them on my M1060s for a bit: I'm shocked at how much I like them over the stock pads. Vocals and low end seem more articulated and detailed without notable downsides. Any minor harshness on the stock pads have been...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I've tried the headphones for a while without the rear foam and without the grill entirely for a few hours each. I haven't tried removing the earcup side at all. Most likely it would introduce more treble which I feel the headphones already have enough of. To me, it didn't make much difference...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I do very much love my M1060 post mod as well. Still my favorite headphone in my collection. The HD58X is indeed a very impressive headphone that I bought at a whim and fell in love with almost immediately. It took a lot of work to feel the same with the M1060. I will say that it won't come...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

To expedite clamp reduction, I would fully extend the metal bands and bend them out slowly and repeatedly by hand, being very careful to not stress any plastic. The clamp for me is about the same as my DT880 now which I consider near perfect. I could never get clamp issues resolved by being...

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee Review & Measurements

I've modded my SHP for more bass so it's a little hard to compare even if I have both. I also felt modded the HD58X. So neither is in stock form atm. They're both phenomenal performers but yes, the SHP do have a severe lack of bass in stock form. To me the SHP has less detail and grainier...
