Why don't you check out Audiolab 8200CDQ?  It's a CD player, a DAC, and digital/analog preamp altogether.  It should cost 1300 in USD.  There are a number of professional reviews on it.  What hi fi had its review on non preamp version, 8200CD and praised very highly of it's DAC and CD player...

I got D3 today and it pleasantly surpassed my expectation for being such a low priced.  My KEF Q900 speakers through HK3490 integrated is sing oh sooo beautifully tonight :)

So any impressions yet?  Very curious.

I just ordered d1100 from Amazon.com.  I've heard it's better than d1000, but I'm very curious to find out how it compares to d2000.

I just ordered D1100 for $199 from Amazon.  I'm really curious of it's sounding for I've never heard a Denon yet.

I remember reading some high end DAC review that the reviewer found one of the best results when fed the DAC with STX optical out.  So I assume STX is great as a transport, and we know that not all transport is created equal.
