Sony WH 1000XM2 or ATH-M50X
So I actually am also a gamer, but I just purchased the WH-1000x for office/commuting use myself. For gaming, I use a pair of open back Audio Technica AD-900x's, and they are a great pair. If you amp them and keep the bass a little high, combined with a very wide soundstage, they make a...- DKohanski

Just bought a ATH-A990z, Looking for DAC Reccs
What I got from reading literature online is that sound cards can be best for gamers, like myself, due to surround effects and otherwise, but that they pick up a lot of internal noise that can be avoided by an external DACAMP. With that knowledge I suppose I still want to use a sound card but I...- DKohanski

Just bought a ATH-A990z, Looking for DAC Reccs
Could you explain that in more detail? Maybe im also struggling to understand the difference between a sound card and a DAC. Not to be a burden, but could you explain the differences?- DKohanski

Just bought a ATH-A990z, Looking for DAC Reccs
I'm unsure if this card is driving my headphones to the extent they need? I'm having a hard time finding stats on whether or not the card can manage the 44 ohm impedance.- DKohanski

Just ended up going with a gaming Audio Card, the ASUS Xonar DSX. I figured it would be probably the best for my purposes.- DKohanski

Hmmm okay, well if that is too low, is there anything within the 70-75 range you'd recommend? The FiiO K1 has pretty good reviews, so i''m not sure what the downside really is other than a lack of controls.- DKohanski

Just bought a ATH-A990z, Looking for DAC Reccs
Hello, I just bought an Audio Technica A990z and I am looking for recommendations for a DAC. I would primarily be using this for gaming, however I don't feel it necessary to buy a sound card for virtual surround sound. I also listen to a good bit of music (genres vary). Any reccomendations...- DKohanski

Need Reccs - Gaming and Music Usage
Thank you! Ill make a post in the DAC section asking for more advice on that specific issue. Again appreciate the help. I weirdly think I remember reading a post from you in a thread when I was originally looking at my AD900x's. So indirectly, thanks for helping me pick two of my cans :D- DKohanski

Need Reccs - Gaming and Music Usage
Huh, I suppose that would be the logical choice, since its basically the corresponding closed back model. I did some googling and also found a post where you recommended this set to another person in a similar situation. Reviews online say that the 990z is the best in the ART Z collection, a...- DKohanski

Need Reccs - Gaming and Music Usage
Hi! I have been gaming on a pair of ATH-AD900X's that I have had to repair the jack on several times due to a mishap on a plane. (Sat up too quickly and broke the damn jack right off.) After a year and a half of being okay on a new jack that I soldered myself, they seem to have finally given up...- DKohanski

Will Laptop be able to power AKG K142HD or Q701 without Amp/DAC
Hi, Im looking into buying either the AKG K142HD or Q701, which have an impedance of 55 and 62 ohms respectively. I am wondering if a small amp will be required for these headphones when running through my laptop, and even if not required does it make sense to buy a cheap DAC/amp in order to use...- DKohanski
