Hi, Im looking into buying either the AKG K142HD or Q701, which have an impedance of 55 and 62 ohms respectively. I am wondering if a small amp will be required for these headphones when running through my laptop, and even if not required does it make sense to buy a cheap DAC/amp in order to use these headphones to their full capacity? Thanks.

AKG Q701 are a little more power hungry them some 250-Ohm headphones, so chances are it's better (wiser?) to use them with an add-on amplifier.

250 ohm? Also, for the K142HD's, would an amp be necessary?

I believe the K142HD would be a little more power hungry then the regular 55-Ohm headphone, but not sure.
