I swapped my MDR-EX450 with a friend for his IM50, and the pin inside the female connector on the earpiece completely fell off when I took off the cable. Is this a common occurrence, or am I clumsy, or what?

My school isn't actually that bad when it comes to headphones and IEMs. Sightings include: Shure SE215 JH Audio customs Ultimate Ears 900 Sony XBA-H1  ATH-IM50 UE9000 lots of Senn CX series buds and unfortunately lots of beats and skullcandy :'(
