See the part in bold: I believe that they used a generic HRTF and not a personal one. Since the personal HRTF takes maybe more than 5 minutes to set-up, I think they may have used a generic HRTF instead in order to make the demos quicker, which would allow for more people to try the product at...

"Active resonance cancellation" for closed headphones. Could it make closed-back headphones sound more like open-back headphones?

Dear Sounds Science subforum, Recently we have seen that headphone manufacturers have developed closed-back headphones which tries to sound more like open-back headphones. One example is the Sennheiser HD 820, which uses concave gorilla glass and sound absorbers to remove resonances associated...

B&O H9 Discussion and Impressions thread

Can any B&O expert chime on on what the dot in the midle in front of the driver is? My own guess is that it is the microphone for the noise cancellation, can anyone confirm this? (It would make sense, since it is wired)

Thank you for your impressions i20bot! By tighter do you mean same amount of bass just more controlled?

It shouldn't make a big difference since it's a planar headphone :-) In any case, the HEX and the Ananda both have low impedance.

castleofargh, bigshot and 71 dB, I follow you guys, and I really appreciate your contributions to the sound science forum! @ironmine - I've just installed 112dB redline monitor, and I am really enjoying it with my new HD800S. The xfeed solved the problem with electric guitars sounding diffuse on...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Yep, its the Dragon Inspire IHA-1. All of these comments about cables affecting the sound of the HD 660S and often less positive reviews coming from people who use tube amps with high output impedance has got me wondering if the HD 660S relies more on electrical dampening than its older...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

My guess is that he meant that due to the faster decay of the 660S, it sounds leaner in comparison to 600 and 650, but impact wise, the 660S is stronger. Bass bloat on the 650 can make them seem less "lean", while still having poorer impact.

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Your findings are quite interesting! What amp did you use? If the HA-2SE has enough power to drive the HD660S, could you please try and repeat the cable comparison with this amp?

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Hey Phthora, please see my previous comment in this thread about the 660S and the Elear. I also found them quite similar, with few but noticeable differences.

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I went down to KT radio today to try the 660S again. Unfortunately, they did not have the Sennheiser HD 600 nor the 650 in stock. Instead, the seller suggested me to try and compare it with the Focal Elear, so that’s what I did. Sorry for the poor picture quality. 660S vs. Elear To start...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

I don't have the HD 600, but they may have it in the store. I will check when I go back there for a second session with the HD 660

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Of course not. I used the HDV 820 and standard cables. In terms of detail retrieval, the 660S is a lot better than the old 650, but it is not a fair comparison, as I am sure it would be closer if the 660S was compared to a new 650. Still, from my memory of the newer iterations of the HD 650 that...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

Hi Endgame, Please don't get me wrong. The HE-1000 is in many ways a superior headphone to the HD660S. It is just that my in my personal preference I would pick the 660S over the HEK. It could be due to what you would call a more mid-centric sound signature. The HEK has a wonderful bass...

Sennheiser HD660S... Finally a successor for the HD650?

So, I just came back from my local hi-fi store "KT Radio" who had just gotten the new 660S in stock today. I compared the headphone to the Hifiman 400s and the HE-1000 V1, and the Sennheiser was definitely my favorite of the three. 660S vs. 400s What struck me the most at first listen was how...

    Win a SUSVARA

I bought the RE-0 when I was 16 years old and I have been a Hifiman fan ever since. Today I use my HE-400s as my main headphones, and having owned +50 headphones, it is fascinating how this pair of headphones keeps surprising me with it's delightful sound. I expect nothing less from the Susvara...

Measurements for analysing upper treble distortion

Lately I have been looking at a lot of headphones measurements, and suddenly I noticed that no measurement of THD+N exceeds 10 kHz. Of course it makes perfect sense that you cannot measure harmonic distortion above 10 kHz, as the first harmonic of those frequencies would lie outside the...

Does the dryness of headphones cause you irritation?

There is no denying anechoic chambers are acoustically uncomfortable, and that listening to speakers in a good listening room is preferable to listening to speakers in an anechoic chamber. Since headphones' interaction with the room is negligible, in some ways headphones should mimic listening...

In some rare cases headphone cables could make an audible difference

Very interesting data. What IEM did you use and what were the resistance of the resistors I took a closer look at the picture, and I can see you used a 3 ohm and a 8 ohm resistor. What equipment did you use to measure the frequency response?    Damping factor not only affects frequency...

In some rare cases headphone cables could make an audible difference

Now before you start a flame war please read my post thoroughly.   Most people here on the sound science forum agree that replacing a headphone cable do not make any audible difference what-so-ever and while I also also agree to this, it has come to my attention lately that in some rare cases...

Effects of damping factor on planar magnetics/orthodynamics ?

I also have the Hifiman HE-400s and I've experienced something entirely different. I've noticed that when I listen to my 400s when they are directly plugged into my macbook's hp-out, the sub-bass is a bit rolled off and the sub-bass is less dynamic/uncontrolled. The macbook pro has an output...
