I just got the Audio-Technica ATH-M40x and I'm disappointed
Sorry to revive this thread, but the 40's are indeed really disappointing. I tested them and the 50's at the shop and they sounded fine to me. I guessed they would sound much better in the quiet of my home but it's even worse. I compare them to my favorite headphones (Somic HM-463 which cost...- Tad-Bravo

HELP!! new(ish) member seeks help for music.
Suffice to say that the CD audio norm is more than what human ears can hear so anything beyond that is a waste of diskspace and bandwidth (EDIT: Especially on music that's compressed as hell like the type of music the OP listens to) You may disagree and I'm not gonna try to convice you. it's...- Tad-Bravo

Neither does the human ear. Not to mention the extra bits are filled with blank noise on 24bit flacs.- Tad-Bravo

Flac will not make any difference in audio quality with the stuff you listen to so don't bother. Flac and so called lossless audio is way overrated. In real life there's no way to notice the difference between a flac and a well encoded high bitrate mp3/aac.- Tad-Bravo

Asian music (Chinese, Japanese, Korean)
It's hard to find Japanese music that is well produced and not a compressed mess. here are some suggestions both old and new: This artist's name is Beni, she's just awesome. (her unplugged album is the one that sounds best) ANZENCHITAI - Wine Red No Kokoro. And a couple... -
Why does modern music sound so bad?
Well, it's obvious that people who like underground and indie stuff like you have nothing to complain about. But me, I can actually appreciate the talent in some of the mainstream artists, and their music sounds okay when you see it on TV, or hear it in a party. But when you sit down with... -
Why does modern music sound so bad?
Thanks for the suggestions, some of those really do sound good. -
Interest in learning about DACs,DAPs ,headphones amps ,headphone amps w/DACs , players etc.
Don't think that FLAC will dramatically improve the sound, it's practically identical to 320kbps MP3 in real life. People will say flac contains more sound information, but I am a human, I don't care about sounds my ears cannot possibly hear. Get better headphones, it's the only thing that...- Tad-Bravo

What am I doing wrong (or am I just deaf)?
The main point of having a DAC/AMP is to be able to drive headphones with high impedance at high volume which the iphone/ipod can't do, not dramatically change the way things sound. The main advantage you have now is that you are able to drive your headphones at a decent volume and hear...- Tad-Bravo

What am I doing wrong (or am I just deaf)?
You're not gonna notice any difference in quality with that style of music. No need to try FLAC as it's still gonna be the same with electro music. Hell, you don't even need high spec headphones if you're only listening to artificial kicks and hit hat. It's like buying a ferrari...- Tad-Bravo

A dead give away when you play music on a bad phone is when you pause the music, the music stops but the noise keeps going for a second or two.- Tad-Bravo

I don't know about their current line up, but I used to own an xperia X10 back in the day when it was their flagship phone and it had a lousy DAC/AMP. Better do your research because the noise level on a bad phone is terrible.- Tad-Bravo

New to the site and need advice
Be careful with your choice of phone, there are huge differences in built-in DAC and AMP depending on the phone. Just a quick anecdote, when Samsung released the Galaxy S1, it had decent Japanese sourced audio chips, but then for the Galaxy S2, some bean counting engineer thought it would be...- Tad-Bravo

Need Subwoofer For My Laptop Setup
You're getting lost in technicalities and false assumptions here. Get a 2.1 powered speakers system and you'll be fine. no need for anything else. everything is in the box including the wires to plug it to your laptop. You do not need to use a DAC with them. For example this one... -
Quality of DAC in relation to used files

Help with Beats Solo HD Headephones
Hi, I understand not everyone is on the same level of sound quality standards. What you think sounds good (beats solo), is pretty far from the standards most people on here call "good sound". To answer your question quickly without lecturing you on audio quality, what you could do is get...- Tad-Bravo

Why does modern music sound so bad?
I understand this topic was all the rage around 2010, but has there been any change since? Has someone managed to make a label for records that are not "loud" ? Are there any modern artists who are taking positions in this war? -
Why does modern music sound so bad?
Yeah, this video I picked up from that wiki page sums it up perfectly: This is just madness, all these decades of music wasted for nothing. Millions of records produced to sound dull on purpose.. :( -
New Guy, Need Help with DAC and AMP choice
It depends, if money's not an issue then a DAC is always a good addition. The momentums don't really need a DAC or AMP as long as you don't want your music excessively loud, but the K712 will certainly benefit from a little more power. Tube amps is an aquired taste. It's only my opinon...- Tad-Bravo
