Sennheiser HD650 Mods Thread
EQ and mods are very different things. You can't gain clarity, tighten bass, and remove resonance due to the plastic cage using EQ. Like I had said the mods don't transform this headphone into something different, , it's not magically flat, it just improves on what the 650 is.- BrettMatthews

Sennheiser HD650 Mods Thread
Like Mikoss I haven't had any issues with dust or dirt. The mods make a big difference and like Mikoss said they don't transform the HD650 to something else but they do elevate and improve on the HD650 sound that we love. Removing the spider makes a noticeable difference and I would recommend...- BrettMatthews

NEW 2015 - HIFIMAN HE400S
The HD650 will be a big upgrade IF you have the gear to support them. The HD6X0's scale incredibly with good gear, but on crappy gear they wont sound any better and may sound worse than the HE400S's as they HE400S is easier to drive. I would grab a HD650 if you are going to have the gear to...- BrettMatthews

Just a heads up for people here I am going to be putting up my tube collection for sale soon, about 11 pairs of tubes, lots of Russian tubes (SWGP, rockets, etc). There is lots of great tubes, I just have too many. Will probably try to sell altogether initially, if they do all sell together I...- BrettMatthews

The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread
HD800 would be your step up from a DT880. I've had some time to compare the two and I feel the HD800 is a step up in every way. One note the HD800 I have been using has the Anex mod done and has an 8 strand balanced cable permanently attached.- BrettMatthews

Crack;Bottlehead OTL
Definitely build them separate, you don't want to have to try to diagnose a problem with the speedball without having a solid base to start. I just finished building mine not that long ago and added the speedball even more recently. Amazing pairing with the HD600's, sounds fantastic, but...- BrettMatthews

I have both and am pretty pleased with both. I certainly prefer the crack over the O2, but the O2 still does a good job with the HD600.- BrettMatthews

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohm Impressions Thread
Haven't tried the E07/9 combo but the fiio E10 does a pretty good job with the DT770. Doesn't sounds as nice as my bottlehead crack but works for my work setup.- BrettMatthews

That would definitely be ideal! The cost to buy a new power transformer was just too high when I already had a spare 220v one and the step up transformer was a third of the cost, but ideally I would like to switch to a 110v at some point. So if anyone ever wants to trade a 110v ptu for a 220v...- BrettMatthews

I've been enjoying my DT770's as my work setup (with my Fiio E10) but I finished putting together my Bottlehead Crack, and wow what a difference! Overall quite happy with my DT770's.- BrettMatthews

Got my Bottlehead Crack working today so I am looking forward to hearing my HD600 tonight. So far I've only heard on my work setup so far, Fiio E10 as the DAC and DT770 250 ohm, and it was awesome!- BrettMatthews

Well I got my Bottlehead crack working today, so far its awesome! I've only heard it so far with my work setup, line out on my Fiio E10 into the Crack and then into my DT770 250ohm and it was a big difference compared to just the E10. Looking forward to hearing my HD600 on this! So as far as...- BrettMatthews

I believe I have found one wire going to the wrong spot and potentially some cold solder joints. Haven't had a real chance to work on it yet though so that's just from a quick first look and isn't for sure the issue.- BrettMatthews

So far I have found a couple small things, but out off respect to the previous owner I probably won't say too much. Also I do have a degree in electronics engineering so that has helped me finding these potential issues (still need to get a 110 to 220v transformer to power the unit so I can test...- BrettMatthews
