I originally intended to get the full upgrade for future update compatibility. I won't be paying $1K or more for shipping and fees. I would like to know what happens if my A16 fails and needs repair: will I incur these same costs?

I contacted Smyth about getting the update and was told it has not been determined whether they will offer it. I haven't heard any more. I hope this is not the end of it. Like some others, I am concerned about future upgrades not being available for the old boards.

No sweep over HDMI, even for stereo??? I repeatedly asked about this and received assurances before signing on to KS. This is a major omission and makes the A16 useless for me.

This along with a good instruction manual and a non-buggy device are the most important things to me at this point. I will probably let mine sit in its box for several months until I am convinced it works properly and I know how to use it.

I feel this is a very positive update. I just found out that my Kickstarter cost about 25% of the current price, and the product will now have a sound financial basis for future support. I hope to see a refined product shipped by the end of the year.

I saw that they demoed the A16 with the Senn HD800 in Munich, which is quite a departure from the A8 and Stax combo. It will be interesting to see whether they even recommend a particular headphone or take a more generic approach.
