    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I originally intended to get the full upgrade for future update compatibility. I won't be paying $1K or more for shipping and fees. I would like to know what happens if my A16 fails and needs repair: will I incur these same costs?

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I contacted Smyth about getting the update and was told it has not been determined whether they will offer it. I haven't heard any more. I hope this is not the end of it. Like some others, I am concerned about future upgrades not being available for the old boards.

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Well it is good to know the A8 and R972 with Trinnov worked properly. It seems that although Trinnov Altitude prepros may do ADC on multichannel analog inputs, it is infact correct to do the SVS calibration without Trinnov, and then route Trinnov to the A8 (or A16) analog inputs, like you were...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Is it possible to do measurements of an unequalized system with analog sweeps, and then for playback insert the equalization after the source but before the A16? By equalization I am broadly including frequency, time and delay compensation. If the equalization is done separately for each...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

No sweep over HDMI, even for stereo??? I repeatedly asked about this and received assurances before signing on to KS. This is a major omission and makes the A16 useless for me.

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

This along with a good instruction manual and a non-buggy device are the most important things to me at this point. I will probably let mine sit in its box for several months until I am convinced it works properly and I know how to use it.

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I feel this is a very positive update. I just found out that my Kickstarter cost about 25% of the current price, and the product will now have a sound financial basis for future support. I hope to see a refined product shipped by the end of the year.

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

@mlkri: You are misinterpreting my impressions. I don't know whether it is good enough for high-end stereo emulations, which is the scenario I was addressing. Some evidence suggests that it may require some manual fine-tuning and perhaps extremely neutral gear. Even then there would be...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Thanks for your comments. I am a Kickstarter backer and am interested in both movies and stereo, but primarily the latter. I heard the demo at Axpona last year and my impressions were similar to yours. However, going back to the original A8 thread, many commented on the need for fine tuning...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

Looking at the documentation, it seems your speculation is correct. In fact, it seems likely that no sweeps are available over HDMI directly from the A16 (even 2 channel). In other words, the HDMI output is strictly for passthrough, and sweeps are only over analog, which is the same as the A8. I...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I certainly hope that 7.1 sweep signals can be output over HDMI PCM, and one doesn't have to resort to a DVD player. What would be the configuration in the latter case? Is the DVD input to or bypasses the A16 (on way to AVR)? The prior would present the same problem, and the latter would seem to...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I think the Realiser does attempt to improve the sound, in the sense that duplicating a finely-tuned room can improve the timbre as well as the soundstage relative to a standalone headphone. For example, the Realiser can (perhaps) remove the 6 kHz peak in the HD800 if of course it does not...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I am new to Kickstarter and don't know how it typically works, but this proposal seems odd to me. For example, I don't see the point of raising 100K given an apparently much larger investment in R&D to date.  I guess I would be more inclined to partake in Kickstarter if it was a make or break...

    Smyth Research Realiser A16

I saw that they demoed the A16 with the Senn HD800 in Munich, which is quite a departure from the A8 and Stax combo. It will be interesting to see whether they even recommend a particular headphone or take a more generic approach.

I second the interest in knowing whether the A16 can output test tones over digital, either optical or HDMI, for input to AVR with modern room equalization.

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

So you believe that there is some simple hardware/software to accept 8 line inputs, convert to USB, input to PC,  which then concurrently outputs 7.1 LPCM over HDMI?  What about the processing delay? How would this affect the Smyth measurement and processing algorithm?  I have corresponded with...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

I am not sure what could be licensed, I am not familiar enough with the technology. I have worked on equalization of wireless channels, but that is of course different. Just pointing out that there is a large gap between an equation or algorithm and a working implementation.   A...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

I wonder whether some are understating what Smyth has accomplished. There is a large gap between the theory and implementation here; it isn't the novelty of the prior that would be licensed. Also, not everyone wants a computer platform for a variety of reasons. I don't feel that Smyth was ever...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

Quote:   If room correction is desired and there is no way of taking multichannel measurements with it in the loop, then that is a problem for the "home" end-user who would like to use the AVR or prepro with its room correction for measurements, and  subsequently remove the AVR or prepro...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

I have a room correction speaker system which can apply  room correction to 2 channel analog  input or  multichannel LPCM over HDMI. Although the system has multichannel analog input, no correction can be applied that way. Since the A8 model apparently can only perform measurements generated by...

Long awaited Smyth SVS Realiser NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

Has anyone used the Realiser with the Grado GS-1000? It seems to me that some of the deficiencies of these phones such as its uneven frequency response might be easily corrected by the Realiser. On the other hand, its strengths including dynamic range, staging and presence might be an asset to...

    Little Dot I+ Tube Rolling

Can anyone offer an opinion on how my current combination of Sylvania GB-408a & LT1364 would compare with Mullard 8100 & OPA2107? I like jazz and classical with Grado SR325i. Thanks

Is a Sonic Impact T-amp a good match for Klipsch Cornwall speakers?

Well, I would have to check on the difference. I was aware that they changed from a front ported design in original Chorus to a passive rear radiator in Chorus II, but unsure of other changes. To clarify, I dont find the combination of tube amp and Klipsch fatiguing. In fact, I enjoy it...

Is a Sonic Impact T-amp a good match for Klipsch Cornwall speakers?

I have Klipsh Chorus II with modified x-overs, and listen to them (mainly classical but also some jazz and pop) with both Charlize T-amp and Wright 2a3 monoblocks. With NOS driver (preferred choice is RCA vt-231), I prefer the monoblocks for what I consider a smoother and more realistic and also...
