Noise, Reverb & Dissonance [Shoegaze, Dream Pop, Post Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Ambient & more]
Wow, there's been some really nice shoegaze/dream pop releases the last couple years, one of my big favorites right now is the shoegaze split with Presents For Sally & 93MillionMilesFromTheSun on An Arms Reach Away/Darkness Inside, with 4 songs from each. I already knew 93MillionMilesFromTheSun... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
I haven't been around Head-Fi for quite awhile, but thought I'd drop by and see what's going on, good to see some of the same people. I've enjoyed your site and writings over the years Tony, and I've also been listening some to the new Wolf People today, and agree it is good. Not sure yet how... -
Band Name Game II
Cool, glad to hear they are getting some recognition. They did a spot on Letterman last year, I guess their TV debut, pretty nice stuff, though I think the previous record Haw is really their masterpiece (I love their previous incarnation as The Court and Spark too, their Bless You record is... -
Three desert island albums
Yea, those are good too, though of course more recent. Another quick 5 big favorites from the early 2000s in kind of the same style ... Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People Manitoba - Up In Flames (had to change name to Caribou later) Electrelane - The Power Out Wrens -... -
Band Name Game II
Great band. Haw is one of those amazing records that you hope people will continue to discover into the future, though I'm not sure good music has that kind of longevity any more. Maybe just too much music now. Be a shame if it's only known for that short moment, and then gone. The also very... -
Three desert island albums
Yea, that was a great time in the early 2000s. Those first couple Shins records are very good. Listening right now to the incredible Augie March debut, Sunset Studies from about the same time. Definitely worth tracking down for a listen, if not familiar. Has a bit of the droney sound I love... -
Need albums similar to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Still a great record, and still probably better overall than Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but that's just me, Quicksand is the one I listen to over and over, through the years. Some Nina Nastasia The Blackened Air playing now, as it does so often around my place, one of my very favorites, she is... -
Three desert island albums
What a nice record, your other picks are too, but that one from Pinback doesn't get enough love. Right now, this very minute, I'll go with these ... Mercury Rev [1998] Deserter's Songs Califone [2003] Quicksand/Cradlesnakes Nina Nastasia [2002] The Blackened Air -
weird, unordinary, unique music recommedations?
Wow, that must be from a really old post! :) BTW, if you like that sound, predating the first Laika record by a year or two, while Margaret Fiedler was still with Moonshake (Eva Luna is also a really good record, though I tend to like Margaret's songs more that Dave Callahan, mostly... -
Indie Music with Female Singers (Recommendations & Appreciation)
Yea, I thought you'd probably get more feedback, though there does seem to be a lot of talk about female vocalists here. Some of it doesn't go into much detail though. I tend toward music that is a little more on the fringes, but all of your videos sounded nice. Maybe try over at... -
Indie Music with Female Singers (Recommendations & Appreciation)
Here's a few of my favorites from this year ... maybe not all quite what you are seeking :) The Delines is a great new band, with Willy Vlautin from the also great Richmond Fontaine doing the writing and guitar, but with female lead singer Amy Boone. Really nice sounding record too. This one... -
Let's talk Indie & Alternative - Your favorite albums at the moment
I've been kind of stuck on this one lately, Calling Over Time, really nice record, especially as a debut, nice sounding too, recorded in 1997 when they still believed in capturing some of the real dynamic range, just 38 minutes so sometimes need to hit repeat. Love the upside down pool of water... -
Recommend some Indie-Pop/Electronica?
Mentioned a couple of my recent favorites from this year in the 2014 thread, but especially that new Hundred Waters The Moon Rang Like a Bell. Not completely electronic, lots of processed piano, and it does have very nice female vocals making it somewhat reminiscent of Portishead, vocal... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Yea, it's kinda surprising the new direction they take with each new record. Really a fun band to follow along with. They put out an EP a couple years ago called Undersea, and it was really different from the previous Burst Apart, which was also much different from the great debut that I still... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Isn't that a great record? Very powerful. Got the latest from Brian Jonestown Massacre on now ... -
New Releases 2014 - No Records Released Before 2014
I've really been liking the new Hundred Waters The Moon Rang Like a Bell in the last couple weeks, not completely electronic, lots of processed piano, and it does have very nice female vocals making it somewhat reminiscent of Portishead, and it is pretty enchanting overall. Been stuck on repeat... -
New Linkin Park Album in 24/96!
Nice that you are happy with it, but what I think would be much better is if some of the modern albums getting licensed to HDTracks were from masters with at least a little dynamic range, something with a much better DR Database value than 5, and let HDTracks sell that one to us audiophiles... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Curious which songs and where you see (or hear) clipping on this? They definitely gave the music a little headroom and didn't push the peaks to the max, which is a refreshing change of pace in this modern era. -
THE best female vocals? (your favorite female singers)
New record is incredible, Wine Dark Sea, don't miss it. She really brings it all together on this one, she's got the band, she's got the songs, she's got the lyrics, and knows how to sing it. -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Have you ever clicked on the View all photos by DLeeWebb in this thread link? Pretty nice collection you got on display there. Been listening a lot to the new one I mentioned upthread a ways by Black Dirt Oak, Wawayanda Patent. Really nice psychedelic folk stuff. ... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Thanks, I'll give those a listen. I don't know that Black Dirt Oak has gotten a CD release yet, may be worth waiting for, but I just did the paypal download ... http://mie.limitedrun.com/products/521748-black-dirt-oak-wawayanda-patent ... probably available other places too. Edit: Oh, I see... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Sounds a little like that Three Mile Pilot odds and ends, An Old Town We Once Knew that I think you like. Has that relaxed and rambling sound, though the music is a bit different, maybe a little more bluesy, not many vocals, but some. Sounds a bit like Can at times. Kind of like that Tracker... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
But it's only February! What are some of your other favorites? I haven't heard Benji yet, but big Kozelek fan, so any year he has some new music out it is likely to be near the top of my list. Well, that might not be true since last one I bought was April, but it was one of the best. Can't... -
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
I'm a big fan of Richard Davies, have been since the '94 Cardinal record with Eric Matthews, and his three solo records, especially the excellent first two, There's Never Been A Crowd Like This and Telegraph, but for some reason never felt a compulsion to check out what he did with the... -
New Releases 2014 - No Records Released Before 2014
The new Black Dirt Oak Wawayanda Patent is a kind of weird but very interesting blend of experimental and atmospheric appalachian folk music, desert stoner rock, and a little bit of Middle Eastern gypsy sound. Kinda cool, and kinda stuck on repeat for the last few days or so. Nice and kind of...
