Hi there,

Can anyone recommend me some indie music with female vocalists similar to these ones? There are a number of indie bands I like but I've been searching for a while to find something similar to the ones posted. I tried using Last.FM but didn't seem to find much of what I'm looking for. It is a relaxing thread so you can post things that you like as well.

Here's a few of my favorites from this year ... maybe not all quite what you are seeking :)

The Delines is a great new band, with Willy Vlautin from the also great Richmond Fontaine doing the writing and guitar, but with female lead singer Amy Boone. Really nice sounding record too. This one is called Colfax Avenue...

Hundred Waters latest The Moon Rang Like a Bell, this one called Murmurs ...

Jenny Hval and Susanna have a new collaboration called Meshes of Voice, not for everyone, sometimes dark and noisy like on the one below, but pretty enchanting if you're of that mind. Not like anything you posted, I know, just my indulgence ...

Sharon Van Etten has one of my favorite records this year with We Are There that fits in pretty well with your group of ladies, though she has a lot more going one here than just some guitar strumming on most of the songs, great record ... the one below called I Know and from a live performance on Jools Holland, just Sharon and a piano, very powerful. Not so much in this song, but she sometimes reminds me a little of Beth Orton who you would probably like, maybe check out Central Reservation from around 1999 ... another similar favorite from a little earlier in 1997 is the debut from Edith Frost, Calling Over Time. The one by Edith Frost is an excellent sounding record too.

  Thanks for the recommendations.

Although it wasn't exactly what I was looking for I did think Jenny Hval and Susanna, Edith Frost and the Delines quite nice.

Yea, I thought you'd probably get more feedback, though there does seem to be a lot of talk about female vocalists here. Some of it doesn't go into much detail though. I tend toward music that is a little more on the fringes, but all of your videos sounded nice. Maybe try over at http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/forums/music-corner.2/ ... they have a lot more people now, and if it gets some response it can kind of snowball. If you do, let me know and I'll make sure to add something.
