do usb dac compare with sound blaster z?
ah, the headphone jack's path uses a single dual-channel opamp vs the line-out using two single channel opamps? interesting. also, you were mentioning the titanium hd in your post, does it still apply for the zx or is it laid out differently?- Soymilk

do usb dac compare with sound blaster z?
the headphone amp is a diy ppa v2, bought the pcb off (tangentsoft? i think) and sourced the rest of the parts elsewhere. made it like ..9 years ago or so? so i take it the speaker jack does not go through the card's amplification stage? or is that recommendation more due to headphone jack...- Soymilk

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR
is there a fundamental difference between the z and zxr, or is it more of an incremental upgrade? for the price, the z is looking pretty good to me at its price, zxr is a bit steep. might just live off onboard sound for now until black friday rolls around and hope they go on sale :)- Soymilk

Creative Sound Blaster new series Z, Zx & ZxR
what's the current consensus on sound cards for fps gaming? my old x-fi elite pro just kicked the bucket a couple weeks ago (some visibly busted caps, tried replacing them but didnt work :( ) and i'm looking for a replacement. through some quick searching i've been seeing some stuff about the...- Soymilk

Hotrodding the X-Fi: A Layman's Guide (No 56k)
is this thread still active? it seems like the images in the first post are no longer hosted, does anyone have them saved? my x-fi elite pro recently bit the dust, it was causing my computer to crash. upon inspection, it seems i have a few bulging caps (3 of the 4 medium sized ones that go...- Soymilk

Q701 impressions thread
nah, it was pretty easy. it's just the pleather (fake leather?) material, cuts pretty easily. then underneath that is the foam inside of each bump that's glued to the headband. if you're adding a layer of foam like i did, you don't have to be too neat / even with cutting out the lumps, since the...- Soymilk

i combined what a couple other people here have done, i knifed the lumps off with an exacto knife and then used some high density foam strips (they sell a 25' roll for like 3 bucks at your local hardware store, they're used for weather stripping / insulating) to line it with. i put two strips...- Soymilk

so it seems like it stock it's on the colder side but the bass port mod moves it to the warmer side? sounds pretty good to me :) have you tried the bass port mod combined with k712 pads?- Soymilk

hmm, i'll need to do some more comparisons when i get home, i feel like ive been taking crazy pills now. thanks for the link, that helps with some of the wording confusion. (btw when i say dt770/80, i mean the dt770 pro 80 ohm, not dt770 / dt880)- Soymilk

i'm probably not using "warm" in the same way that it's commonly used, as i seem to remember the dt770/80 are often called bright as well i think. but comparing its sound with the sound of the hd555, it seems to have more of a full bodied sound? i never really bothered to get into a store that...- Soymilk

thanks for the response. looks like i'll just try them stock for a while first, then do the bass port mod and see how i like it. i was thinking the same for the foam one (too lazy), would be curious on some more opinions of bass port mod + k712 pads though. does it get too bassy for preference...- Soymilk

so upgrade bug bit me and i've pretty much narrowed in on the q701 as my target. have a question about the mods though, and what combination of mods people may be using. bass port mod - this one's removing the sticker, right? this seems to be the one to do. adding foam beneath the grill...- Soymilk

What has your journey been like to your current set up?
i had a steelseries headset that wasn't cutting it anymore, the sound quality was terrible. soundstage was surprisingly good on those though, and they were pretty comfy. got a dt770pro80, and built myself a ppa. that was a few years ago, and is still what i use; i recently (just a couple...- Soymilk

Soundcard vs DAC vs Amp (Suggestions?)
yes, an external dac is less susceptible to noise from the computer since it's not inside the computer with all the other electronics and the casing may act as a shield. it's not that they eliminate the noise, it's they don't pick it up in the first place. as to how audible of a difference...- Soymilk
