    MDR-V4 & V5

Hello... Surely somebody must have already posted pictures on HF, but here are mines : The second(or might be the third?)one I had the chance to buy new old stock, the Mdr-v5 are sharing same headband conception than the V-7 that are so magical sounding cans. Except for the earpads falling...

    Dynamat mod for Sony MDR-1R

Hello. The main modding idea here is to somewhat imitate the inside damping of the Sony Mdr-Cd900st: Using a thick circle of glass wool to fill in the cup to improve bass presence. Plus an aluminium paper foil to replace Dynamat to try and prevent resonance phenomena. I will try to improve the...

    MDR-D777?... any impressions?

Hello everyone. Sorry to wake up an old thread but I think it is worth it. Two quite simple mods to do here: First is to remove the white plastic plate glued on the grill in front of the membrane: Treble frequencies are now back to normal level scale, and medium are tammed. Second thing to do is...

    Sony MDR-ZX500 Review.

Ok these can really make voices - male or female - shine and do sound kind of similar with the Mdr-zx600 actually. Bass emphasis is fun, though. Regarding comfort, it sure is true they're barely over-ear 'cause the cups are a little too small to fit the(big)ears. But no more talking: let's see...

    Sony MDR-ZX500 Review.

Revival's in the air . . . ! 'just received MDR-ZX500 in white and silver, yesterday. Very fun snowy design. I will try some listening... And some modding too, of course ('cause I found its SS a little muddy at first sight, lacking clarity in treble). More to come !

    MDR-Z1000 new Sony flagship headphones

Hey, it's been 3 days now I've been listening to these bought second-hand mdr-Z1000 headphones. Heavily used it seems but with rather new velour earpads. Burned-in obviously, considering their age... I would definitly call them analytical, and really I feel their sound signature to be very close...

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

Hello everyone... As I am not a craftman with wood stuff, I did mine with some famous little plastic bricks here for my modded Sony Mdr-sa5000: The back side of the doom... Slim back view here above Left side profile view to finish... Nothing here to be really proud of, but it is really light...

    Pioneer Monitor 10 canny sound?

Hello everyone. A relevant picture (just because I really fell in love with its aluminium and pleather great design) to illustrate what Takato14 explains regarding the cable issue: I had the same sealing issue with the cup not quite adjusting to my right ear when I first tried them... Now, with...

Koss Portapros Sound Better Than Koss PRO/4AA's

Hello everyone. 'Seems to me like it really is kind of byzarre trying to compare fully open headphones like Portapro and fully closed headphones like Pro4AA. Like comparing a drone and a helicopter. Thus, in the idea of melting these two together, I am planning to mod Koss Pro4aa "Frankensteen...

You're welcome. Actually there are 6 small holes in the aluminium cups, making the headphones half open back. Regards.

    Show us your vintage headphones!

Mister Nofarewell(cf p.122 post #1822 of this thread), thinking about your Sony lightweight walkman headphones, and especially the powerfull mdr-62 (sony mdr62) that I took hold onto a broken piece, I transplanted the whole cups and drivers quite successfully in an outshining real vintage and...

Attn Sony MDR-CD2000 owners, try this for me (PIC).....

Hello BattleBrat. Sorry I did not try your cloth tape mod. I made another mod instead. But thinking about the rattling sound due to hair stuck that you experienced, it is true that very thin hair might run into the earpads to finally reach the membrane having made its way through the foam and...

Koss Pro4AA Renovation - How far should I go?

Well, I recently bought 2 non-working Koss Pro4aa second hand (around 15 euros) and they were totally taken apart when I got them... And with neither pads, nor drivers !!! Fortunately the parts were rather clean without dirty foam decomposing whatsoever. I had an Omenex KsK-dj150 with headband...

    Sometimes cans suprise you....Philips SHP5400!

This wednesday morning I modded a used Philips HP5401 with the half of the strong cable of an old half-broken AKG k500. It fits perfectly here... The two missing silver plastic covers on each cup with philips logo on them do not seem to change the global acoustic.
