Best upgrade $2k-$4k
Thanks for all the input. Happy to keep getting suggestions. Just as an update I went to the Schitt store and listened to the gungir multi + mjonir and also the Yggdrasil + ragnorok. I wanted to try just the DACs with my current headroom AMP but didn’t have all the connections easily...- JoeinLA

Looking for the best bang for the buck upgrade ($2-4k)
That's for the suggestion. Others have suggested upgrading my DAC and there's a Schitt store near me so I'm going to check that out today.- JoeinLA

Best upgrade $2k-$4k
Thanks for all the input! I'm going to check out the Schitt store near me today - I might consider the DAC upgrade first since it sounds like the weakest link so far and the Headroom is a bit old on the DAC technology-front. Best upgrade $2k-$4k
i'm near a Schitt store so I guess I could go there tomorrow and give them a listen. They seem well reviewed. I had a thought that perhaps the headroom "amp" was still good but that the DAC was outdated... I could try just replacing the DAC and see how that changes things...? the biggest...- JoeinLA

Best upgrade $2k-$4k
I also have Denon AH-D7000 (the out of production older top of line model, AMAZING but eclipsed in all respects by TH900), Massdrop THX-X00 (good but not at the same level as Denon or TH-900), HD650 (affirmatively dislike), Sony MDR-something (bought 25-ish years ago (?!? damn i'm old) and...- JoeinLA

Best upgrade $2k-$4k
not sure if this post goes here (I also posted in the recommendations forum): I have $2-$4k to blow on an upgrade for my headphone setup. Obviously I'd prefer to spend closer to $2k, but I will pay for the superior experience. Would like to buy new but would consider used. ALL...- JoeinLA

Amp for HD 800 and TH 900?
I have the Fostex TH 900 through a HeadRoom Desktop Amp (Max'ed), and am VERY happy with the combo. Edit: with Desktop DAC combo. I've heard the HD 800's and will be picking up a pair - not as a replacement to the TH 900, but a complement (the two sound too different to really put as a...- JoeinLA

Amp for a noob that likes to only buy once...?
So, I currently have the DT990 600 Ohm and the Denon D7000. I'm running them through a Titanium HD to a JDS Labs O2 amp. I also plan on getting the HD650's if I can get lucky on a good price. Do you think the above sound card and amp are good enough for now, or would you recommend...- JoeinLA

Mozart Philips Complete...? Or other collection of "Best" Mozart recordings?
I'm sort of coveting this, because of its completeness, and also because I'm looking for a collection of highest quality Mozart performances/recordings. Does anyone know where you can buy this set still? Or any tips on how to get this collection (e.g., just search ebay all the time)? ... -

The foobar2000 help thread. Got problems or questions? Ask here!
I just started working with Foobar, based on all the threads on this forum. My first noob question: recommended skins? I'd like one that displays playlist and currently playing - the default skin, at least as I'm able to configure it, only show the "now playing" on the top and bottom of...- JoeinLA

The Xonar Essence STX Q/A, tweaking, impressions thread
Is the STX able to send sound / output to multiple outputs at once? I would like to be able to send a signal to a Behringer A500 to power some Buttkickers and, at the same time, send sound to either an AV receiver (to listen through a 5.1 speaker setup) or to a JDS Labs Objective 2 amp (to...- JoeinLA

PC -> Asus U3 -> O2 -> DT 990/600? Any reason to buy a sound card?
Yes! thanks again for the explanations. It's very surprising to me how unintuitive and un-user friendly the PC audio systems are. You'd think someone would have come up with a SIMPLE "plug and play" solution by now.- JoeinLA

PC -> Asus U3 -> O2 -> DT 990/600? Any reason to buy a sound card?
I definitely read that guide, more than once. My comments would be that: 1. It's a bit technical - that's why I read it a few times and, frankly, didn't really understand much of it :P For example, I don't know what an API is or a "binaural audio technology" :P I'm too much of a noob, I guess...- JoeinLA

PC -> Asus U3 -> O2 -> DT 990/600? Any reason to buy a sound card?
Thanks for the info! So I understand that I would only need another sound card/DAC to the extent that the sound card/DAC provides a DSP that's not on the U3. Hopefully not the case, but I'll definitely pay better attention to the type of sound processing that's used by the games that I'm...- JoeinLA

PC -> Asus U3 -> O2 -> DT 990/600? Any reason to buy a sound card?
Just wondering if, based on the above "chain", there would be any need to buy a "better" sound card like the STX or Titanium HD? I *think* the answer is "no", since the U3 is the "DAC" and provides Dolby Digital Live for surround sound gaming through the headphones, and the O2 drives the...- JoeinLA

Soundcard vs. AV Receiver and recommendation for headphones
FYI, I just ordered a DT990 Premiums 250 Ohm for $270 off of Amazon. Thought it was a good price and I considering these (or the 600 Ohm, but was concerned about powering the 600 Ohm ones) or the 600/650's; but the price of the 990's seemed pretty good so I jumped on 'em. I may just break...- JoeinLA
