    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Yeah, the pads on the 770s have always been different, and have always been stiffer. They also have less girth where the padding is. The 770's pads are part no. EDT-770V. They're designed for closed-back headphones and using them on the DT880 or DT990 pretty much ruins the sound. Similarly...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Have you heard back from Beyerdynamic? There have been several people commenting on the stiffer, black velours on recent models like the all-black DT880 and all-black DT990. I have the all-black DT990 and the pads do seem stiffer than usual.   Please let us know what Beyerdynamic says, I...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Yeah, the DT990 I recently purchased did have security stickers on either side of the box but they're the only Beyers I've seen that had those. Mine are the all-black limited edition version and the pads do seem a bit stiffer than regular Beyer velours. AFAIK the pads are made by hand so its...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

The bass definitely improves a ton with amping. Just the other night my roommate and I were listening on our smartphones with the DT880 & the AKG K712 and it reminded me just how big a difference amping makes for the DT880. The AKG K712 sounds essentially the same without one, it just doesn't...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

None of my DT770/DT880/DT990 have ever come with a serial number sticker on the headphones themselves, and I've purchased several of them. Its also normal to not have security seals on the box itself. They do have a serial number sticker on the box, at least all but my DT 880 Pro do.

Nice find @FuzzyD   DT880 are one of the best values in headphones if not *the* best. And that's a good price. I like the look of the all black limited edition. Wish it came in 600 ohm.   Enjoy! Let us know what you think.

    Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread

Even at $170 its a good value IMO but yeah, at $130 or $140 its a steal.   Whether a DAC or an amp would have a larger positive impact is hard to say. If the audio output on your computer is poor then a DAC might be a big improvement. Otherwise an amp would probably be a bigger improvement...

I imagine either one of those would be better than nothing and you could always upgrade to a more powerful amp in the future.

    Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread

Others can chime in as well but in my experience, no. All of the Beyer DT 770/880/990 struggle to get loud enough without an amp. Even the 32 ohm DT880, the lowest impedance of all of them, struggles. I bought a set for my brother who was plugging them directly into a relatively recent...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

In case anyone is curious-- the Beyerdynamic A20 works very well with the 600 ohm Beyers. There is definitely no lack of volume here. With my very quietest tracks (very old recordings etc) I have to turn it up to about 3 o'clock to get it super loud but with typical tracks I stay well under the...

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Nope, I still haven't heard any of the tesla Beyers. Well, except for the DT1350. I *think* those are teslas but they're a totally different kind of headphone. I have a ton of experience with the earlier Beyers (DT770, DT880, DT990). Do you feel like these new teslas are a big improvement...

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Yeah that's pretty much what I've heard too, about the TH-610 as well as the various Massdrop TH-X00 variations. That's a shame. I've never been able to get that amazing soundstage out of my mind. One of these days I'm going to have to just bite the bullet and get a TH-900.   Do you know if...

    Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80-Ohm Thread

Granted I've only used the 600 ohm DT770 Premium but the other DT770's are known for having good soundstage as well. Despite being closed, I've heard several open and semi-open headphones that had worse soundstage than the DT770. They're really quite good IMO for gaming & movies.

Oppo Sonica DAC (an affordable ES9038PRO Sabre DAC)

Quick question for everyone, and forgive me if it was already mentioned earlier in the thread,   How hot does the Sonica DAC get? Would it be safe to place other equipment on top of it?   Thanks

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Nice. I'm super curious about the TH-610. I demo'ed the TH-600 some time ago and it had probably the best and most enjoyable soundstage of any headphone I've heard and I've heard a lot. Not only did it have tons of width, it had just as much depth. It was like the music was stretched out on a...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Well I finally got myself a DT880 Premium 600 ohm. It just arrived and its sounding brilliant. This will most likely replace my DT880 Pro as my daily headphone. There's not a huge difference between the two but this does initially sound slightly more refined with slightly better resolution. In...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Others can do a way better job of explaining the technicalities (paging @Hifihedgehog) but I know I've read that there has been a longstanding standard in the pro audio world for 100 ohm output impedance but only Beyer a few other companies seem to care about it. All I can say for sure is...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I would recommend the 600 ohm, personally. The A20 is a good amp but its 100 ohm output impedance plays best with really high impedance headphones. I've tried mine with my 600 ohm DT770 Premium and it gets it plenty loud.

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

They're down to $178 right now. The DT990 Premium 600 ohm is at about the same price. They seem to have dropped in price significantly. I doubt they're being discontinued but it seems like they've gone down in price since the newer DT1770/DT1990/Amiron came out.

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

I've been spending more time with the A20 amp. Its very interesting. It does sound slightly different from my G109. I suspect what I'm hearing are the effects of the 100 ohm output. My DT880 Pro and DT990 Pro seem to have a little more midbass and there seems to be maybe just a *tiny* bit more...

    The Beyerdynamic DT880 Discussion thread

Been messing around with my new Beyerdynamic A20 amp for about an hour. Definitely sounds good. It seems to be slightly different than my Lake People G109 but I need more time to digest it. There's one really weird thing though-- it has passthru RCA outputs and when I connect those to my G109...

Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

@CBonUK, what part of the headphone is creaking? Do you by chance where glasses? I do and I know that whenever I put on a brand new set of Beyers with brand new velour pads, there is a bit of a creaking noise when I move my head, from my plastic glasses rubbing against the new pads. Its only a...
