New cable for HD600s or better amp?

Anything is a consideration at this time. I've lived with the 600/MuFi combo for over four years now and I'm ready for something different, maybe even Stax. Just trying to consider all the possibilities. Apparently you think the 650s are a vast improvement over the 600s though?

Planning to buy new speaker setup, comments welcomed

Based on a budget of $300 (we're assuming, aren't we?), I'd suggest looking at offerings at Audiogon. Based on my own limited experience, the Paradigm Studio 20 would be a great dorm speaker, and used, would be in your price range.

New cable for HD600s or better amp?

I'd certainly consider SS as well as tubes. Budget, tentatively I'd say less than $1K, but once I've found something I truly like, I can justify it to myself as being cheaper than therapy. Justifying it to the missus will be a bit tougher.

New cable for HD600s or better amp?

Which would benefit me the most, a new cable for my HD600s or a different amp? I'm currently using a MuFi X-Cans V2 with Electroharmonix tubes, sourced by a PS Audio LambdaII/UltralinkII combo. TIA ls

    Noise floor w/ tubes (x-can v2)

Magic, From what you recall, how do the 6922 EHs sound in comparison to the JJs? I've just finished off the second pair of JJs in my X-can and I was less than impressed by the last pair--noisy and not very dynamic.

    X-CAN, Ault PSU, and Stereophile

OOPs!!! That's an AC plug, not DC. Realized that after I posted. It's easy to change. Got mine from Parts Express as I was already placing another order. I'd check Rat Shack first though as the shipping charges from PEx far outweigh the part cost (less than a buck, if I remember correctly)...

Anyone know the best place to buy replacement pads for the 580?

I sorta thought it was high al$o but after my black Lab retrieved my 600s, I was just grateful that he didn't bite the driver! I contacted Sennsheiser by e-mail and they were quite friendly and shipping was quick.

    Senn HD600's have Arrived

SteveSolo, Glad you're enjoying them already. Mine were pretty bright out-of-the box--intolerable to my jaded ears--but I was breaking in an X-CansV2 at the same time. I let them cook in for nearly a week before listening and found them to be much better. MUCH better. They take on a sense of...

    X-CAN, Ault PSU, and Stereophile

I purchsed the Ault wall-wart based upon recommendations (I forget where, maybe here or another audio forum) and it did cause a problem, albeit one that I should have foreseen. The plug (DC end) that fits into the back of the X-CansV2 is not the same length on the Ault as it is on the MF...

    Recommended dealers for MG Head

Like the title says, any recommended dealers? While cost could play a factor, a good dealer with after-the-sale support, is also desired. Oh, almost forgot--I'm in the US of A. TIA

    HD600 & X-Cans v2: What's Your Source?

I'm sure you'll have lots of other great suggestions, but you should definitely consider simply adding a used high-end dac from the likes of Sonic Frontiers, PS Audio, Classe, Theta, EAD, etc. I'm currently using a PS Audio Ultralink II dac directly into my XcansV2 and the only thing I really...

How old are your HD600's or HD580's?

JaZZ, thanks for the measurements. Regarding the original post, I have been using my 600s heavily for about 2.5 years and have not noticed any decline in bass response. I've used both the headphone out on my preamp (MOSFET input but probably an opamp output for the phones), and I've also...

Sennheiser HD600, Creek OBH-11SE or ASL Head DT/OTL

Solude, Where is the Head-OTL available at that price? I've been thinking about purchasing it but all I've seen, US or Canadian, came out to $330 US. Would greatly appreciate any direction. TIA

    Voicing of headphones

(forgive me if this has been breached before, but I'm new to the site) The current thread on removing the protective foam from the Senn 580s/600s prompted me to try the mod. Yes, for me, the results were easily heard. BUT... Do headphone manufacturers voice their products with protective...

    580/600: foam removal and clarity

Okay, I exaggerated a little bit, there's no danger. BUT, this is not going to be universally "good" tweak. The first CD I played after pulling out the foam, displayeto be a little bit too much for my tastes. Sibilance was increased being noted particularly with vocals and cymbals. This...

    580/600: foam removal and clarity

    >"What about cutting a small hole in the foam about the size of a quarter?" See what I mean? The most obvious solutions are often overlooked.

    Longtime crossfeed listeners

For numerous reasons I've held off on building a crossfeed circuit in the past. However a rather extensive remodeling of my home is causing me to do all of my listening through headphones for the next several months. While I don't mind the intimacy of headphones, I really do get tired of the...

    580/600: foam removal and clarity

acs236, Jazz, thanks for the great ideas. It's so amazing that some of the easiest tweeks, those that should be obvious, are never thought of. I'll have to try these out tonite. Sheer nylon with no elastic would probably most easily found at a cloth store, as previously mentioned. However...
