How Many Times Have Your LCD3 Headphones Been Returned to Audeze for Servicing (RMA)?
I'm not sure if it's QC, I think it was poorly designed and they redesigned them in 2016 (or around) from what people are reporting. Instead of recalling the defective unit, they extended the warranty to 3 years. It's great for those who were using them a lot, some got multiple exchanges even...- hmorneau

How Many Times Have Your LCD3 Headphones Been Returned to Audeze for Servicing (RMA)?
My LCD-3 just failed, very low usage (I have a nice pair of speakers, so my headphone doesn't get much attention). I bought them back in 2014 and yesterday one side failed. I contacted Audeze, and like others have reported they want $580 USD + Shipping to get them fixed. They claim that this...- hmorneau

Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
I have the SPL auditor with my LCD-3F and I really enjoy it (the auditor deliver 1,3watts rms per chanel at 110ohms). Do anybody have tried it and can compare with other amp? Should I upgrade my amp?- hmorneau

Review: SPL Auditor
J'imagine que tu as raison si SPL le disent eux-même. I guess my own setup was wrong too when I first got the SPL. Anyway, XLR should be standard on every "audiophile" dac at the price they sell them.- hmorneau

Review: SPL Auditor
I'm glad you like it, the Auditor is really made to be feed by an XLR output. As I said, it's a pro audio gear, it will amplify what is there, nothing more, nothing less. Feed it with crap and you will get crap. I think most people who feed it with an RCA adapter or audio jack don't know...- hmorneau

Yeah, sorry I edited my reply while you were replying. I was still doing more research and I found some of my assumption were wrong/incomplete. But I'm basically saying that it's worst then I first expected, and it doesn't solve your issue. I did drive the auditor with my sound card when I...- hmorneau

Review: SPL Auditor
Here some info I found for you: Balanced and Unbalanced Reference Voltage: For consumer audio products using unbalanced RCA connectors, the reference signal level is -10dBV. This is equal to reference voltage level of 0.316 Vrms. 0 dBV is a voltage reference point equal to 1.0 Vrms...- hmorneau

Review: SPL Auditor
Going from RCA to XLR is bad idea, RCA works at a voltage much lower then the XLR, hence why your gain is so low. My DAC for an exemple output a max of: RCA: 2,6 Volts XLR: 5,2 Volts So basically your gain is 50% of what it should be.- hmorneau

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
Ok, I find an other way to counter that logic. If you are ready to pay 1000$ for a cable to get the most out of an amp, why would they settle to pay way less for critical equipment in hospital that maintain human alive? Hospital Grade cable are made from copper, no shielding, nothing magic...- hmorneau

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
Ho yes, it's such an important issue that there is regulation around this to limit the source of Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): From Wikipedia: "In the United States, the 1982 Public Law 97-259 allowed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to regulate the susceptibility of...- hmorneau

Gah. 'Audiophile' USB Cable.
I will reply even if I said that I won't because it's simply stupid. Brake pad thickness when new: 12mm When pad need to be replaced: 3mm Same for the tire: New tire: 9/32 (for a typical car) Replacement at 2/32 (better to do earlier). So we are talking about of a 9mm of margin...- hmorneau

New Audeze LCD3
Don't, go for LCD-2F with a $1000 AMP/DAC (used can get you even better gear). I would much prefer that over the LCD3 poorly amped. I was driving my LCD3 with a Vali at first with a much better DAC then the modi, and I was so disappointed ! "But I will upgrade later". True, and you will have...- hmorneau

Review: SPL Auditor
SPL is pro audio equipment, so basically you pay for what you get. You don't pay someone trying to make a living out of is basement, not saying that they are not good, but what I'm trying to say is that SPL know their stuff. Be prepare to be blown away by it for the price it cost. If you...- hmorneau

I do believe that you ear a difference, that's why company (with big money) still "waste" their time with placebo. Placebo are effective, sometime even more then the real pill. Here we are not arguing that sugar pills doesn't heal people, we simply say that there is no basis for a cable to make...- hmorneau

I have never read that much driver failure about the T1 or some other very popular headphone. The LCD-3 it seems very common.- hmorneau

beyerdynamic T5p: Photos and first impressions.
The XC is the Audeze closed back. They isolate pretty well but they are on the heavy side. The 900 is closed back, but it's true that they isolate as much as an semi-open headphone. But they offer a really good sound.- hmorneau

AUDEZE LCD XC
I did not had a chance to audition them at home, only at the store, but I took the time that it takes to see all the small difference between each model. The LCD-X is such a nice set of can, it's like nearly as neutral as a T1, but without all the sibilance and "lack" of bass of the T1. I don't...- hmorneau

AUDEZE LCD XC
I had the chance to listen to the LCD-2F LCD-3F LCD-XC and LCD-X The LCD-X was to me the best of the bunch for "neutrality". The LCD-XC was somewhere between the LCD-3F and LCD-X in terms of sound but with a more enclosed feeling (but probably the most open closed can I heard so far). The...- hmorneau

Quote: I did not like the thin flat cable as well and it was too long. I got a shorter one on ebay and it's nice, I like it. The soundstage got larger, the instrument separation are much more defined, the bass are deeper, the midrange is more in your face, the treble are more...- hmorneau

Best tube amp for LCD-3
If you own both, the best way is to try it. I had the SPL Auditor and I was so sure it wouldn't be a nice match (because the SPL is made for high impedance headphone >300ohms according to some). But so far I love it with my LCD-3F, they sound very nice, no sibilance, lot of deep bass, nice...- hmorneau

I agree that I can't argue with that, read about the "Argument from ignorance". If the quality of the cable were indeed making a difference on the digital cable all the internet would be in trouble.
