Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
This thread has been consistently popular over the years for a reason. That reason simply is that the 846 is a very good IEM. There are no magical speakers out there. Don't fall for the hype of people coming on this thread to promote some other product. Like a stereo system you have to tinker...- truckdriver

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
A subwoofer speaker can measure very well for frequency response in a test environment. It might sound poorly in the wrong enclosure, with the wrong source/amplification, and room conditions. The 846 was marketed by Shure specifically for delivering subwoofer-like sound via a unique bandpass...- truckdriver

New JH Audio flagship! "Siren Series Roxanne"
I don't know about that. The Roxanne has a bass dial and doesn't sound "the same" depending on the setting of the pot.- truckdriver

New JH Audio flagship! "Siren Series Roxanne"
The Roxanne II still has a three way crossover network. The crossovers themselves are known as 4th order crossovers (using a different technology than your standard crossovers).- truckdriver

Shure 846 vs. JH Roxanne's
Personally, I don't know how much I could learn about an IEM from an in store audition. I feel like I have a feel for an IEM after that third week of 10 hour per day sessions of going thru many scenarios with different sources, tips, and music. I have not heard the K10. I have no reason to...- truckdriver

Shure 846 vs. JH Roxanne's
svk7, I owned the Roxanne II and I listened to it for more than 200 hours. You are right, if you connect the 846 and Roxanne to an iPod or some audiophile player and pressed play, the Roxanne has at least two times the separation. With Viper4Android the separation of both IEMs becomes larger...- truckdriver

Shure 846 vs. JH Roxanne's
I have had both the 846 and the Roxanne II. I wish I knew of an IEM that truly superseded them. I would pay good money for better. I, however, am not interested in the flavor of the month. I would like something even warmer in the mids than the Roxanne with even better separation with deep...- truckdriver

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
I was speaking tongue-in-cheek but it's cool if you disagree. It's all relative to cheaper IEMs with a million or so page views. This is actually a popular thread even more so than the Layla impression thread. I think Spook is right about the lack of posts lately being due to no ability to...- truckdriver

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Hey Spook. I didn't see this. I guess it is true that a thread about a $3000 IEM is not one of your more active threads. If it were really active, I would wonder why so many people have so much money, right?- truckdriver

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
Sometimes an imbalance in earpiece output is due to moisture. I store my 846 in a container with a moisture eliminator (the kind that sucks the moisture into the bottom of the canister). I buy them at the dollar store. Moisture elimination keeps the IEM sounding crisp as well. Edit to add: It...- truckdriver

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
Don't worry, this is nitpicky stuff. The Mojo sounded better with the 846 to me than the DX90 and maybe slightly better than the Sony ZX1. So, it's not a bad purchase. I just like it sweeter sounding with great tonality and the full range from sub-bass to highs. And yes, if you attach a 100...- truckdriver

What I meant about the Mojo is that it simply doesn't pair well with the 846. I haven't had any luck plugging the extremely efficient 846 with an amp. The Mojo is great with my headphones. It overdrives the 846. The sub-bass suffers the most (for me).- truckdriver

Yes, and a proper pairing for an IEM wouldn't necessarily just include the impedance level either (for me). My Mojo, for example, has a very low impedance, but the sound with the 846 seems stressed (over driven) with unnatural tonality.- truckdriver

Android is an operating system. Some "audiophile" players use Android (like Sony ZX1 and 2, Astell&Kern, Cowon, the FiiO X7, likely the upcoming iBasso and so on).- truckdriver

I EQ the bass down and the treble up with the black filters on the 846. I was after the thicker more present midrange note that I heard when I first installed the black filters. I don't know if the EQ is granular enough to reproduce that same effect with the other filters. I did like the...- truckdriver

LG V20 Sound Quality
Okay. I read (before the phone came out) that the quad DAC had a power saving bypass circuit that allowed for turning off some of its features. I didn't know you could bypass the DAC altogether like the V10.- truckdriver

There's a "stock DAC"? This is the first time I've heard anyone mention a stock DAC. I thought the quad DAC was the only DAC for the headphone out. No one has written about this.- truckdriver

Shure SE846 Impressions Thread
I agree having owned the Roxanne 2 univeral. I don't know how different the fourth order crossovers make the sound compared to the original Roxanne, but I thought it had a good sound and good natural tuning. It was the only IEM I've had that didn't require EQing to balance the sound (with the...- truckdriver

Well, I don't have to consider thoughts about the KSE1500. I was an owner. It is quite capable of very good sound. I just didn't have the right source configured the right way. I would prefer a better starting spot than version one. As for EQ, I was with you until I tried Viper4Andriod. All...- truckdriver

That didn't answer my question. I asked about the technological advancement that might make it superior. People make all kinds of proclamations about what is better to them. After more than 3 years with the 846, I have the old itch for something new to get excited about. However, I don't see anything tempting in reading various threads around the forum. Everything just seems to have a favor of the month aspect. I don't know, I guess it is saving me money. Meanwhile...- truckdriver

Shure KSE1500 right channel noise
Because of the uniqueness of this IEM system, there's only one suggestion. Send it back to Shure. It should be still under warranty because it hasn't been on the market for a year yet. It's likely the cable on that one side. Shure is the only place to get it replaced.- truckdriver
