Can someone help me understand digital techology?

Thanks all for the very informative comments. Amazing though how a chain reaction can start in this area--all I wanted to was to upgrade my source on my headphone system, & now, I can see that it's only a matter of time (days, hours?) before I will not be able to resist getting a new amp & new...

Can someone help me understand digital techology?

I have a wonderful, but perplexing problem. I purchased my first decent source (Denon 3910) and experienced a great improvement with my headphone listening, as I expected, with the 3910 connected to my Corda HA-1. My old source was a theater in the box Sony DAV-450 combo DVD player/amp...

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

Thanks Welly for that tip. I still have >3 weeks to return it, & I'll give it a thorough testing. So far, so good.

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

My replacement 3910 came in today & I must say that thus far, I'm very impressed. Audio is a big improvement over my Sony DAV-450. I actually think I may be content with my setup (HD-600's, Corda HA-1, 3910). Thanks for all the help.

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

Even worse, mine arrived last wednesday & was completely defective--wouldn't play CD's at all & DVD video for only 5 secs before freezing. I sent it back for a replacement, for one more try.

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

Thanks very much for those observations. If you get any additional thoughts on the 3910 for Redbook CD, I'd love to hear it. It looks like you have some reservations there. I would be using the 3910 as my primary headphone source & all my cd's are Redbook.

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

Thanks all for the input, & dpippel, I'd love to hear your review. I'm not sure, however, I can wait (credit card is in my hand, but I know I really should wait). I'm weak!!!

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

Thanks very much for the reply. The AVS forum has lots of info. Do you think the Arcam is worth the extra $1700? I really wont miss the SACD. But it seems that the audio on the 3910 is getting pretty good initial reviews.

Any views yet on the Denon DVD-3910?

I'm still looking for a quality source for CD listening with a Corda HA-1 & Senn HD-600's that will also do a good job with DVD video. The specs on the 3910 look promising & I see it now posted for sale. Has anyone heard it & have any views?

DVD player ok for quality source?

As I read your comments & do some research, I am getting utterly lost. The Toshiba SD-3960 sells for under $100. How can that possibly equal (mod or not) in quality a Meridian 508 which seems to sell for over $3000???? I assume the Denon DVD-2900 is better than the HK DVD22 since it costs 5x...

DVD player ok for quality source?

Hmm--2 votes for the Toshiba 3960, & I guess the answer to my basic techology question is that DVD players do not sacrifice quality over a dedicated CDP for music listening through a headphone amp. Unfortunately ( or fortunately maybe) I have a $300 merchandise card for Circuit City, & they...

DVD player ok for quality source?

Thanks for the input. My dream machine (DAV-C450) does have SACD, but all I own are CDs so it's unimportant to me. Also, it is not a progressive scan player, and I definitely want progressive scan for watching DVDs, so I need to upgrade for that alone anyway. I thought I could kill 2 birds with...

DVD player ok for quality source?

Greetings all. I have HD-600's connected to a Corda HA-1. Unfortunately, my source is Sony "dream machine" home theatre in a box dvd player, which I suspect is a big weak link in quality. I'd like to do better, but since the source is also being used for home theatre surround sound, I'd like to...

    Questions about ordering Corda HeadAmp

Maybe this thread is dead, but I wanted to mention that you can buy from Jan (as I did) without paying any fees at all if you have an american express card or membership in 3As. Just use plain old traveller's checks, which you can get at no charge with either of the 2 items mentioned above. It...

Just got my Corda HA-1 !

Hey TimS. I love my new Corda HA-1/HD-600 combo too. I also prefer the 0 ohm socket for the 600, but I find that when I'm using my senn 280 pro (when I need isolation) it sounds better with the 120 ohm socket--the 120 ohm seems to tame the brightness of the 280 pro & it sounds much better. Which...

    Senn's 600 Pad's?

Lodo, I have to agree with your reply to Lou (LTUCCI1924) although I hate to disagree with a fellow Philadelphian. I A/B'd my HD-600 with my portapros and found the 600's significantly better in every respect, even though I think the portapros are great & a great value. Of course, if bifcake &...

    My 580’s are dead…

Hi Elnero. I'll bet it's the amp. I have the 280s (as you know as president of the 280 club) & recently purchased 600s (stock cable) with a Corda Headamp-1. I find the 600s better all around & quite good enough to have cured me of the upgrade bug. Can you borrow a better amp & try the 580s again...

    Crapamundo or not?

With some expert help from the jocks on this forum, I am attempting to upgrade my headphone system, & have HD-600s & a Corda Headamp-1 coming next week. I'm worried though that my source will be inadequate to enable me to exploit this new equipment. I use headphones primarily with my bedroom...

    What Is Your Amp History?

    1. AirHead 2. Corda HA-1 on order 3. ? I refuse to upgrade until the last one ordered arrives. BTW tanfenton, by the standards on this addictive forum, a mere 2 amps most definitely does not make you a spendthrift!

    Cardas cables installation

Thanks--it looks like I need to spend the $250 for the 20 footer since most of the time I'd need the extension with the 10 footer & that would negate the benefit of the cable. It does feel weird, though, spending more for a single cable than the friggin headphones cost, but I guess once the...

    cable

Lou--Yo, what's up? I think the mini-to-mini you bought is the standard cable that Headroom ships with its portable amps. The one that I got with my AirHead works fine. Do you have Cardas cables on your 580? I was thinking of getting them. Opps--I just saw on your sig that you have Equinox...

    Cardas cables installation

Thx Andrzejpw. BTW, I notice Headroom sells a 20 foot as well as a 10 foot cord. I wonder if using a 15 foot grado extension undermines the sonic benefit of the Cardas cords? OTOH, a headphone with a 20 foot cord seems like it would be a pain a lot of the time, for those moments when you're...

    Cardas cables installation

Thanks Taoster. Do the new cables go on as easily as the old go off? I noticed that someone here selling the 600s with Cardas cable said he sent it to Senn USA to be done, so I was concerned.

    Cardas cables installation

Forgive me for asking such a basic question, but I've searched & can't seem to find an answer. I have HD-600s on order & was considering purchasing Cardas replacement cables for it. Can the cables be easily installed without special tools, equipment or skills and without voiding the warranty? If...
