YULONG DA1: Flagship All-in-One with AK4499, 5W Class A BAL headphones and Pre-Amp
Thank you for the thorough review. I have had the Yulong DA1 main unit for a couple of months and recently added the external power supply. I only recently sat downt to listen to the combo with my one available set of headphones (Ultrasone Edition 8). So far so good. I'll reserve comments for...- classicjazz

YULONG DA1: Flagship All-in-One with AK4499, 5W Class A BAL headphones and Pre-Amp
Thank you for the follow up. I had read that information and knew the unit was biased into Class A. I guess I am used to larger chassis that can dissipate the heat over a larger area. I just wanted to confirm that the temperature is as expected. If I were to get the power supply, do you...- classicjazz

YULONG DA1: Flagship All-in-One with AK4499, 5W Class A BAL headphones and Pre-Amp
I just received my DA1 (just the main unit, no external power supply). I am running Roon and the DA1 is connected via coax to my Auralic streamer. I've noticed that the chassis is quite warm, measuring 44º C in many places. The ambient temperature is 24ºC. The unit is on the first shelf and...- classicjazz

YULONG DA1: Flagship All-in-One with AK4499, 5W Class A BAL headphones and Pre-Amp
This combination unit looks exciting. What is the current delivery time to USA for orders placed today? I'm working on some changes to my DAC sources and hope that this setup is available soon to try in my system.- classicjazz

Sennheiser IE8 Impressions Thread
I've found the IE8s to be muffled and have a wooly midrange and an unacceptable thickness. Maybe I will try the tape mod. After using full size Sennheiser cans, I had high hopes for these. I was an early adopter and they've been sitting unused in a drawer for the last few years. Definitely not...- classicjazz

Ultrasone Edition 8
I wouldn't trust purchasing those ED8s from Alibaba. I am in general skeptical of any high end item coming from there given the proliferation of knockoffs or of "out the back door' supply chain problems. As for the ED8s themselves. They have a unique sound, one that does a good job...- classicjazz

So what the heck do protable amps do?
Portable amps, particularly if they have a built in DAC can do wonders for laptop users as they replace the computer DA conversion and provide much better amplification. For casual listening and on the go, the weight of even a small portable system (iPod type device plus amp) makes it unwieldy...- classicjazz

Ultimate Ears In-Ear Reference Monitors Review
I do find the UERMs engaging in that they do not mask anything. I like that. This is why I opted for the RMs over the 18s. I also felt that the bass on the 18s was a bit loose and the soundstage was a bit too deep. Perhaps it depends on what you listen for. Some people absolutely prioritize...- classicjazz

ALO Audio Continental V3 Impressions and Appreciation Thread
Thanks for the tip on storing the amp at 80% battery life. I'll go charge and play it tonight. Beyond that, as for sound, I have the International and there is something right about the Continental. It does not offer an obvious tube sound (i.e. euphonic) but rather a more palpable sound. This is...- classicjazz

Ultimate Ears In-Ear Reference Monitors Review
I erred on the side of neutrality since I am suspicious of sound that is too beautiful. It would be great to have both, though.- classicjazz

Ultimate Ears In-Ear Reference Monitors Review
I find the UERM to be very neutral and as others have said, a tool for critical evaluation. On the other hand, the 18s I auditioned produced a glorious sound. I was tempted to go for those but went with neutral. Not sure if I made the right call. In comparison, my Fostex TH900 produce...- classicjazz

If you still love Etymotic ER4, this is the thread for you...
I started on ER4s years ago and loved how they isolated the sound. The only negative was the microphonic cable (I was an early adopter) and the fact that after 6 hours or so, I would experience ear fatigue (physical not sonic) due to fit. They set the benchmark for me and I still like them. I've...- classicjazz
