Vinyl Sibilance & Balance
Thanks for the reply, StanleyB. It seems it was only this particular record that the left seemed louder than the right. I've tried other records, and the balance seems normal. I guess the record was just mixed badly. On loud midrange sounds it distorts also. On other records, the music...- sumone

Vinyl Sibilance & Balance
What do you have to do in order to reduce (or eliminate) the distortion that occurs on sibilance like 's's, and high hats/cymbals? Is it just a dirty record or do I need to fix something on my table? Also it seems the left channel is louder than the right, what causes that?- sumone

192Kbps mp3
Wouldn't a 192kbs 48khz MP3 sound worse than a 192kbs 44.1khz MP3? Since there's 3900 more samples, but it's using the same amount of space (192 kilobits/second), isn't it essentially worse in quality?- sumone

New Chaintech/Envy24 drivers...version 5.00b
Has anyone seen/used the new drivers, version 5.00b, Feb. 22 2006? Check the new "Audio Deck": First thing I noticed was that using the Windows volume control (on the system tray) finally increases both left & right (in 2-channel hi-sample rate)! You'll get a kick out of the...- sumone

I'm still not getting sound. Module snd-1724 is loaded, I used this asound.state. Got the "bad control.7" error & removed it...then had to remove controls 48,49,and 50. I've done alsactl -f /etc/asound.state restore to make sure it's reading in the right file; Here is my asound.state: does...- sumone

If you had to choose..... car or internet?
I could live without either. Car: I didn't get my license 'til I was 18 (I'm 21) & the bus got me everywhere I needed to be. A car would be more convenient, but that's all it is...a convenience, not a necessity (in my case since I'm not a traveler and am not involved in a profession that...- sumone

Motherboard recommendations?
I recently started looking only for a quieter CPU fan but then I read some product descriptions and thought that I should just upgrade my mobo. I don't need much. ALL I'm looking for is a motherboard. Not upgrading any memory, drives, etc...just CPU & mobo. Minimum requirements are: -...- sumone

Linux/ALSA/AV710...asound.state
I had it working at one point, trying to use the AV710 with high-sample rate analog mode. Then I installed a SBLive so that I could connect my musical keyboard to do some sequencing (in Windows XP, dual boot with Redhat 9) with Propellerheads Reason. But it seemed the SBLive only worked if I...- sumone
