Is this a better test for cables than ABX?

I think ur missing the point. You can't prove subjective opinion. I'm not thinking about this test to satisy my own opinion about cables. Some people say they hear a difference, some don't and say the people who think they hear a difference are just suffering from a placebo effect. One...

Is this a better test for cables than ABX?

So there's a lot of dabate about whether cables make a difference. And whether more expensive cables make a difference. Why rely just on the ABX testing to figure it out? I'm sure everyone's thought of it before, and that there's a flaw in my thinking, but.... why don't people just get a good...

question about banana connectors and sound quality.

I've read all those arguments too. well if you want to get into that there's also people who think there should be no difference b/w amplifiers. According to some ABX testing people haven't been able to tell the difference. DO you believe that too? I know that with my speakers, which buzz at...

question about banana connectors and sound quality.

Right now i use biwired monster unity audio speaker cables (http://www.ozenterprises.net/_unity/monsterlink.htm) to connect my Apogee Stage speakers to my Krell 400xi. I'm considering getting another set of speaker cables to increase my guage, but i would need something like the Vampire SB...

    Ipod Hifi Initial sound impression

In the Macworld podcast (http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/mwpo...t30/index.php), an editor who sounds like an audiophile says his initial impression is that the ipod hifi does have distortion, doesn't separate, has a flat mid range and low bass. No real soundscape. THere are better options...

Most significant cable? Speaker, interconnect, or power?

Please no cables are snake oil posts. For the believers, how would u rank which cable has the most significant impact on sound. eg.) 1. speaker cable 2. interconnect 3. power cables

Which would your rather have - Good Recording or Good Source

Seems like a lot of u are confusing a bad recording with "bad" music. A bad recording has no relflection of the music.. it's based on the actual recording. Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone.. great music that's not recorded well. Also, source isn't the end of the reproduction.. it's...

Need info on backing up a hard drive

rocktboy, i'm not saying that they'll fail at the same time. I'm saying that if u have both a primary hd, and a back hd on all the time, and after say 5 years one of them fail. Well, can u really trust the other one lasting another 5 years? Y bother having both at the same time? Just let one...

Need info on backing up a hard drive

u should definitely back up. I've only had one harddrive fail on me before, but it just has to happen once. WHen i thought about backing up, i toyed with the idea of just putting another hd on my pc, but if both the primary hd and back hd are on at the same time, it's just a crap shoot. If...

PC Music Library, a BackUp strategy that works for me

it's ok to have a computer on all the time.. i keep my htpc and my data server on all the time cause i don't want to have to turn them on everytime i want to use them The point was that for backup hd's, for better lifespans, it's better to just keep them off and only turn them on when backing...

PC Music Library, a BackUp strategy that works for me

Turning off hd's bad? Nope.. as long as u don't do it 5 times a day: From EnergyStar website "The belief that frequent shutdowns are harmful persists from the days when hard disks did not automatically park their heads when shut off; frequent on-off cycling could damage such hard disks...

PC Music Library, a BackUp strategy that works for me

do u keep ur backup drives on all the times since they're scheduled to backup? Then u'd be shortening the lifespan of them. I keep my backup hd's off except when i'm backing up. that way i'm extending their lifespan as much as possible. I just backup once a month.

What are the negatives to having a computer-based sound system?

Viruses? thats' y i have antivirus, and i never surf on it anyways. It's my htpc. dedicated, only for playing media. I have other ones to surf. If ur afraid of getting viruses from downloading music.. well that's illegal, and another issue. i dont' see it as an issue of should i buy a +$1000...

What are the negatives to having a computer-based sound system?

Computers don't have to be that complex. If a friend wanted to make an audio rig like mine, i'd tell him to buy a dell, which is almost as quiet as mine. After that he could buy a squeezebox and stream music for instance. or just install a EMU which natively bypasses the kmixer. Ripping...

Ferbose, i hate cd's cause they can scratch.. and i can be as careful as i want, but they always end up scratching.. bad cases, clumsy gf's, etc.... I Just have one backup of my music on a usb external hd that's off except when backing up. And i don't bother keeping the cd's, since to me...
