Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
For a few years now I've only listened to them EQ'ed to some Harman-esque variant on Oratory and they're unbeatable, IME. Purchased the Monarch Mk-II when they first came out and was prepared to let these go if I preferred, but they're so far ahead on technicalities once you fix the FR it wasn't...- bobeau

Sound Science = Thought Jail?
Just out of curiosity, do most of you good folk hang out over at ASR now? I dipped my toes in this subforum's water about 10 years back but was a bit turned off due to one particularly acerbic prominent member here, have been mostly at ASR since 2018 or so.- bobeau

ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
Had the MKIIs and found the FR awesome... just felt they lacked in technicalities, esp compared to my Harman'eqd KSE1200. Can't put my finger on what exactly, just that they seemed to lacked precision/speed/details. Of course it's a bit of unfair comparison considering they're more portable...- bobeau

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
IME, it's really between the KSE1200 or KS03. Just get a Quedelix 5k and use the oratory EQ. The 1500 DAC sucks and the EQ does not give you nearly enough control - you do need a full 10 band PEQ. Plus you get 50% more battery life w/ the 1200 amp. Or if you have PEQ on your laptop, get a...- bobeau

Fun iem? U12T Mest mkII Monarch
Why not Monarch Mk II? It's literally retuned in the bass region to deal with this very issue.- bobeau

The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
This album has universal acclaim (seriously, just look at wikipedia) and is always used to showcase what an incredible talent Syd was and could have been if he could have kept it together. It would be hard to rate it higher. If anything, I feel it's a bit overrated, but I have to remember at...- bobeau

FWIW, these are ported, there's a hole on the bottom. In addition to the shallow fit probably lends to the somewhat expansive staging.- bobeau

Can someone clarify replacement cable options? Ultimately just looking for a more minimal cable, and would prefer not to pay some $70 for the OG Monarch cable (quite frankly would want something more minimal than that). Is this a fairly universal 2 pin connection? For instance, would something...- bobeau

ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
Just got these in as well from headphones.com. My daily drivers - KSE1200s tuned to a slightly tweaked Harman - are pretty tough to beat. These sound remarkably similar... somewhat more of a sense of space (likely attributable to the shallower insertion), not quite the detail/precision/speed...- bobeau

Confirmed Linsoul said I could cancel my order and told them to go ahead and do that. Ordered w/ headphone.com this morning and it still said in stock, hope that's true.- bobeau

Can you confirm whether or not you have stock for new orders as well? I put in an order w/ Linsoul 6 days ago, think it might just be better to cancel and order through you if so.- bobeau

Hmm. What happens w/ those Sonion drivers when they're under driven? I do mean the Apple dongle for the most minimal, pocketable setup. I do have a Quedelix 5k which pushes out like 8x the power balanced, and a Hidizs S8 for a great DAC section with about twice the power - so I'll have my bases...- bobeau

What I find interesting about the Monarch Mk II is they seem to hug IEF neutral (w/ bass boost) to 2k... then above 2k they almost straddle the line between IEF neutral and Harman IE. Seem really impeccably tuned. In any case ordered a set of 5 days ago, hopefully they ship within the next...- bobeau

It's a 10% restocking fee - so you eat $100. Wonderful if you decide it's not for you several months in... but for hot new IEMs, likely do better just reselling here.- bobeau

ThieAudio Signature Series Tribrid IEMs
The double star is just a value rating - they're the highest value (cost vs. perf) S tier which is certainly notable, though I don't think in general the ranking/listing order within a tier means anything. That said, it's the only S tier w/ an S+ for tonality while still holding an S for...- bobeau

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Certainly not bass light, the issues are more in the midrange and treble, though the midbass is a bit thick. Sound so much better if you EQ to Harman and then tune to taste from there. Been running them like this w/ a PEQ through Roon for over a year now. Even Crinnacle knocked them down...- bobeau

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Then why try to tune the sound w/ ear tips, which really should be for ergonomics? It's like trying to kill an elephant with pellet gun. Yes, they do have a minor impact as shown in measurements earlier in this thread, but we're talking a decible here or there, and not necessarily to the...- bobeau

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
FWIW, I've eq'ed them to Harman, or something Harman'esque for nearly my entire time owning these (using Roon PEQ on my laptop or a Qedelix-5k). The white line is the correction below. You can see the midbass has a cut relative to the sub-bass. I've mentioned EQ'ing these a few times in the...- bobeau

Shure KSE1500 Review - Shure KSE1500 Sound Isolating Electrostatic Earphones
Have you tried the CP240s? Once I found them a couple years ago I never looked back. My fit is right between the M and L, but I chose the Ms for overall comfort. If I give them a good twist while opening my jaw a bit I can get great iso and fantastic comfort for a double flange.- bobeau
