    Head-fi actually got to me before the other hype machine.   Not that that was too much better, 2 pairs of broken RE0s later. I am gradually becoming an informed consumer, though.

    I also don't really see how this is very similar to Beats/Bose -- Etymotic doesn't sell headphones on the strength of their PR machine.

    When I first got my hf5s they sounded dark and lifeless and hurt my ear canal. Today, they're my favorite IEMs I've ever heard and I love listening to them.

    Etymotic's hf5 is the best I've heard -- fairly fast, easy to pinpoint things in the soundstage, nice punchy mids. The only faults I can find are that it is somewhat rolled off at the ends and sounds a tiny bit "thin" usually.

    If you don't need loads of bass, the Etys will outperform the other two in pretty much every way, particularly isolation.
