passive volume control post-amplifier
Hi, I'm using the Music One which are very sensitive CIEMs (108 dB SPL @ 0.1 Vrms) with the Fiio Q1 DAC/Amp, and I hear a hiss that doesn't change with volume. Considering I almost never go over 3/10 volume using the low gain setting, I wondered if there was a way to attenuate the output...- YTCrazyTieGuy

Philips Golden Ears challenge
Setup: Superlux HD668B straight from Toshiba Laptop, with Equalizer APO to reduce the harsh treble on the 668B, and most of the time I was with crossfeed on just because I'm used to it (took it off for some of the spectral tests). Took me about an hour and a half, though I have an advantage...- YTCrazyTieGuy

RE-400 a couple of questions
Hi, I have a couple questions about the RE-400. First of all, should the stock eartips be enough for finding a comfortable fit? (the stock small Ety triple flange is a bit too big for me, so I think I have thin ear canals) Secondly, do any of you hear a mismatch between the left and...- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
@ Dark wizzie - this is pretty much what Sean Olive's research is based on, though since no two rooms are exactly the same, there is no absolute reference, and listening tests are still needed. @ ubs28 - have you heard of the smyth realizer?- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
Lets take a few steps back. IMHO the holy grail of sound would be hearing music exactly as the artist wants me to hear it. The sound is part of his performance, so if he wants the vocals to sound like i'm in a tiny bathroom with the vocalist singing softly into my ear, and the rest of the...- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
In an ideal world recordings would be made to be played with a flat response, but that ideal is far from the truth. Therefore, since the objective of music is to please us, the best response should be the one that makes as many recordings as possible sound as good as possible, and this can only...- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
Assuming you are in a perfectly quite environment isolation shouldn't make a difference, but it's true that maybe the weight of the headphones changes the subjective evaluation of the sound, at this point I have a feeling that these psychological differences are what we are looking for.- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
@Tyll Actually I was exactly talking about that post - when you look at those graphs does it seem the full size graphs match your subjective opinion better than the IEMs? for example, the SE535 graph shows a quite recessed treble response, and a very slight focus on mid-bass over mids...- YTCrazyTieGuy

lol what an honor, I didn't expect Tyll to comment himself ^^. Sure is interesting. Tyll do you find the full size FR plots compensated with Sean Olive curve match your subjective opinion of them better than the IEM plots do? Edit: btw right now i'm listening to my Ety MC3 with -6dB at...- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
"I know some things" it's too bad you can't do a blind test comparing in ears and full sizes :P in the end though a personal opinion is worth just as much as a graph sometimes imo, ill keep it in mind. @mikeaj at first I didn't trust headroom over the fidelio guys but I tend to trust my...- YTCrazyTieGuy

IEM FR vs Full size
Now that I think about it the shape/type of the headphone shouldn't matter, what should matters is the frequency response that reaches the eardrum, it shouldn't matter how it gets there. If the architecture of a headphone affects the ear resonances (for example an iem bypassing the outer ear...- YTCrazyTieGuy

RE-400 vs UE6000 (portable/home use)
Hello, I want to buy a pair of portable headphones, main use will be long listening sessions at home so comfort is very important to me, but I will also use them on buses and trains, so isolation is likewise important. I will likely use them for mixing amateur recordings in the future, so I...- YTCrazyTieGuy

Focal Spirit One for $149. Better than the M50x?
Bump The height of my ears is a bit over 6 cm and i was wondering if the spirit one would be comfortable for me, as i intend to use them for very long listening sessions. @funkdrummer From the headroom graphs and innerfidelity reviews it seams like the spirit one will be easier to...- YTCrazyTieGuy

Amp recommendations for Superlux HD668B
I don't think a tube amp will be great for me because I'm going to use it for mixing. Would you say your tube amp is very detailed and transparent? I might consider one if it is. About the HD668B: I absolutely love them (They don't block noise though). They have slightly recessed mids and...- YTCrazyTieGuy

Help setting up TB Isone
That's a good Idea, but I can't find an individual CD, and I don't want to buy the whole mono Boxset. And about the mono mixdown, I can use TB isone's Dual mono mode, but it messes up the phase and makes everything sound horrible. (BTW I use Fidelia) Any other suggestions (or a link to a...- YTCrazyTieGuy
