I mostly used an original (black) earpads: A pair of DT990s that sound lile HD650 have had original pads, but another pair that sound like modern-880 also have had original ones. Just forgot, that I also have heard a pair of Revox headphones, which a clone of vintage DT990. And it was sound...- Ilya--s

I've heard about 4 pairs of old DT990 and actually all of them sounds very different - two pairs had tonal balance close to newer-DT880, third pair - close to newer DT990, and another pair sound like HD650. And not only damping material was changing during production, but also drivers was...- Ilya--s

Just got a second pair of Beyer DT911 from early run. it's was very hard to find them nowadays! The first pair (left) is from early run & second one (right) from late run (both with original earpads): Surprisingly, but even with same earpads, they sound different: DT911 (early run) has...- Ilya--s

I'm also find K340 (ibass light version) treble is a little hot/sparkle. stax lambda (507, for example) has a a little smoother treble. But overall, K340 bass light is not so easy to compare with Lambdas. One pair has original pads, and the other has pads from 880 ed.2005. I didn't like how...- Ilya--s

I didn't hear ET1000, I've seen it on ebay this year (http://www.ebay.de/itm/Beyerdynamic-ET-1000-Beyerdynamic-N-1000-/350530503033?pt=Kopfh%C3%B6rer&hash=item519d3f0179). DT880S reminds me some Stax Lambda 'phones (like 303, 407, 507). old DT990, on other hand, kind of 'fun' headphone (more...- Ilya--s

Looking to upgrade
not a balanced 880, i mean old 880 - from 1980s. you can buy it on ebay.de in good condition. they sound airy & natural and better than newer 880 2005. Old K500 sound more lifelike and less analytical than K701 & has even wider soundstage. MA900 is also very good as an upgrade of AD700. But...- Ilya--s

Looking to upgrade
probably, old beyers 880/931 & akg k500 - you can buy/win any of them within 300USD tag on ebay. ad900 is upgrade, but not worth 2x price of 700s.- Ilya--s

The Nameless Guide To PC Gaming Audio (with binaural headphone surround sound)
Yes, some people reported about low-perfomance with r3d, but i didn't experience this problem myself (ultra-mode, headphones, WinXP, Core2Quad). The difference was about 10-15%, overall framerate was 50-55fps.- Ilya--s

Rapture3D is really great thing. Interesting, how good is built-in SRC in this - It doesn't load CPU too much (tested hardware X-fi vs Rapure3D in DIRT2 benchmark - didn't find a big difference in the results)- Ilya--s

Reply to review by 'ilya--s' on item 'Onkyo Japan SE-300PCIE Wavio PCI Express Sound Card'
Thanks! D5000, for ex., sound nice with a headphone_amp of SE300, not as good as some desktop amps - soundstage are smaller and bass a little muddy & slow. However, Essence ST has much more power then Onkyo.- Ilya--s

Review by 'Ilya--s' on item 'Onkyo Japan SE-300PCIE Wavio PCI Express Sound Card'
Don't get me wrong - it's an amazing soundcard. I've had an Asus Xonar Essence ST w/OPA627AU, but SE300 are simply on another level of this. so, some facts about SE300: -) There is no front_panel output (HD_audio) -) 7.1 output sounds ok, better then Creative Titanium. -) Headphone_output are...- Ilya--s

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
HE4 is very good with something like T-AMP, it's cheap, but a little diy skills requreid. LCD2 isn't actually my recommendation for him, they are just great headphone for gaming ;) also, in my country D7000 costs around $1200.- Ilya--s

Mad Lust Envy's Headphone Gaming Guide: (8/18/2022: iFi GO Blu Review Added)
I find HE4 is excellent for multiplayer games, with both CMSS3D & DH - better than AD700 & DT880. it's nice for singleplayer too. But with proper amplification, of course. LCD2 R2 gets my vote for Singleplayer, i place D5000 in the 2nd place.- Ilya--s

Thanks, NamelessPFG! I think EFX10Show (from OpenAL SDK) is also a good tool to check positional accuracy and efx/eax effects. Interface isn't so user-friendly though.- Ilya--s
