Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

One more question! Is it necessary to get a decent sound card for my PC if I'm using a DAC? I'll really only be using the PC for Skyrim, I almost exclusively use my MacBook Pro.

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Quote: Awesome advice! What sort of second hand amps should I be keeping an eye out for?   I noticed a Heed CanAmp around second hand for $400. Apparently barely used and with adhesive plastic still attached. I don't know what sort of reputation that amp has though.

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Beyerdynamic DT990s and FiiO E10 are on their way, still not 100% sure about which amp to get, so that will probably be a while ago, but at least I've got the headphones and 'play' amp on the way.

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Quote: Excellent. Thanks for that. Hopefully it will drive the DT990s at least a bit.     At this stage, I plan to buy the Valhalla from Schiit and the E10, just as an easy to move amp. Assuming the Valhalla will be enough to drive it, but the webpage specifically states that the Beyer...

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Quote: I've been going back and re-ripping all my cds in apple lossless, but not all of my tracks are from CD, a lot are purchased from iTunes. So I've been doing a lot of CD buying in preparation.

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Quote:   I'll do some heavy reading on those Schiit amps and the other recommendations you made. Thanks for the advice.   Also, I was wondering whether it would be worth while to get a pretty lowend amp to use for just in the bedroom when watching a movie in bed or something as I...

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

Wow. I can't say I was expecting over $400 for the DAC alone. xD There still might be some saving ahead of me.   The DAC Magic sounds great... But I am skeptical of some of the features. The up-sampling for example just sounds unrealistic. I fail to see how it could provide higher...

Quote: That's true, however, the base cost of the headphones is somewhat higher then the price of buying straight from here.

Quote: Yes I am, I've made a thread in the AMP forum about my quest for an amp and dac, check it out if you'd like.   I still haven't decided whether to get the MANUFAKTUR version, It does add a fair bit of money as I have to buy direct from Beyerdynamic.

Beyerdynamic DT990 600Ω Desktop Amp and DAC

I want a reasonably priced amp to drive the DT990s to their full potential, or at least close enough without breaking the bank. Playback will be from a MBP most of the time, otherwise from an Xbox 360, so I'm not sure what sort of DAC I might need for that.   Thanks for taking the time to...

Perfect thread. I have made up my mind. 600Ω it is. Amp shopping here I come. =D Is there any difference with their MANUFAKTUR range other then bloated price tag and looks?

I've been reading more and more about the DT990, my decision to get them hasn't changed, but I'm jumping from thought to thought about which version to get. I've been lurking around these forums since I got back from work, and a lot of people seem to say the 600Ω version is the nicest.   I...

Well, I have an amp to use about 50% of the time, but it's not great, and is rooted to my lounge room, I don't mind getting an amp, but if I can get a cheaper one with the 32Ω version, that's great.    Is there any difference to sound quality with that version?

Quote: Mmm, they actually sound kind of scary. :/ I can see whether I can get out there to see them in person, although I'm not sure if it's worth it considering how dodgy they sound. The only problem is that it's $100 extra from all the other places. That might also be a bit of an...

Well, I'm going to get the DT990, not the pro edition.   Now, I want to buy from Headsonic, they're nice and cheap. But are they reliable and... Up to date? Their site makes mention of stock being expected in May of 2011. We're just a little bit past there now, so I want to know if they're...

Damn, Headsonic is a lot cheaper then all the other places.   They only have the normal model of the 990, not the pro. But, at that price, that sounds fine to me.   It mentions it not being as accurate a listening experience as the 880, is this going to be a problem? I have no real...

What exactly is the difference between the DT990 Pro and normal? The Pro is about 90 bucks cheaper. Not what I'd expect from a so called 'Pro" model.   Denon is not available at those sites, and further research has lead me to believe the positive reviews have been pretty accurate. I'm...

Quote: The problem with Amazon is that they do not ship most audio products to Australia. Beyer Dynamic I know has a clause saying that international companies can not ship to us. I'll check out the other two though.

Also, the Beyerdynamic dealer in Australia does not have a purchase option on their website. But the Denon one does not even have headphones listed. Guitar amps are filed under headphones.  I am more then slightly confused. -.-;   Are there any good places to by headphones in Australia?

I probably should have mentioned that movies are quite a big thing for me too, although I can usually listen to them with speakers. Sound leakage isn't too big a thing for me, I don't mind open backs if it results in better quality. Sound isolation is a plus, but not worth sacrificing quality...

Title basically sums up my wants, price range is about AU$400 max. Pink Floyd is my favourite band by miles, so it’s absolutely essential that they sound great. I want to really feel the bass and get that feeling from a huge soundstage. Other listening habits include Prog Metal, bands like...

    Buying first "Audiophile" headphones.

BD DT880 is back up. $350 with shipping. Easily the most expensive option. But is it worth it?    I really don't want to mod anything with these headphones.   So, worth it? Sennheisers are about $250 I think, AD700 is about $150, and Allesandro is $100.   If the only difference...

    Buying first "Audiophile" headphones.

I've heard the Fostex require a massive amount of amping. I'm willing to get a small amp for my MacBook Pro and iPhone, but I don't have the cash to splash out on a fancy amp, nor the time to set it up everywhere I go.   Alessandro, Sennheiser HD 598 and the AD700 seem to be the contenders...
