Yes, a quality amp does this, sometimes it changes (colours) the sound a bit by intention.

Senn IE7s are more much suitable for pop/rock as they have good bass & vocal and response a little faster than IE8s but you have to wait for a long run-in, which takes at least 300 hours.

Good mod!   An alternative is purchasing a pair of hard pads from Grado, which will provide a better sound stage (I would not care about sound stage if I like SR80s), but a bit expensive.

You may think of Sennheiser HD280Pros, it just fits Rocks and Technos.   The sound is detailed(not muffled) with good bass and warm mids (but somewhat laid back), however it might not be very comfortable to wear as it is designed for monitoring.

If you would not like to use amps, please consider M50.   AD700 could just sound loud on PC/MACs while M50 would sound nice.
