I was incredibly underwhelmed by the IE80s using the stock ear buds - once I switched to foam (some are included), they made a lot more sense.

Have you tried the foam tips that come with the IE80s?  Made a world of difference to me.  Have compatible Comply's as well, but found the stock foam tips enjoyable.
